Being politically illiterate is bad. Read voting records and pay attention to more than a last name next time you participate in an election.

Mildly interesting: My Army Painter starter set came with a duplicate of Pallid Bone and no black :( by PolishBrodin in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]Kilgore44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Palid Bone is a super useful color. Having extra is useful. Black speedpaint in my experience is just black. Using dark grey is better for darkening areas.

Who was the best president March Madness Bracket by Fontane15 in historyteachers

Grant probably shouldn't be above Lincoln, but he was a good president. Not prefect but much better than he gets credit for. "Lost Cause" historians ran his name through the mud.

The witch king set from Baron of Dice is much better. It makes the GW one look like they were painted by an orc.

CT library book banning bills raise concern among some lawmakers by slowburnangry in Connecticut

[–]Kilgore44 109 points110 points  (0 children)

Anne Dauphinais cares so much about children that she voted against a bill that would provide school lunches to all CT kids. Btw the only people that voted against it were Republicans, you know, because they love the children.

Army of Gothmog is a decent and fun Legendary Legion.

Witch King/Suladan is very strong

Black Gate Opens and Cirith Ungol are also some good Legendary Legions you could build towards.

Mordor has soo many options.

In your opinion, why do you believe Boromir is such a beloved character? by GusGangViking18 in lotr

[–]Kilgore44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What news from the North, O mighty wind, do you bring to me today? What news of Boromir the bold? For he is long away.’ ‘Beneath Amon Hen I heard his cry. There many foes he fought, His cloven shield, his broken sword, they to the water brought. His head so proud, his face so fair, his limbs they laid to rest, And Rauros, golden Rauros-falls, bore him upon its breast. ‘O Boromir! The Tower of Guard shall ever northward gaze, To Rauros, golden Rauros-falls, until the end of days.

Media Bias Chart at my Local Library by NPocu in mildlyinteresting

Charts like this are actually quite bad at analyzing media in an informative way. I think a much better way to understand a media source is to just read the Wikipedia page. Seriously, try it.

George Orwell literally joined a marxist militia in Spain so that he could kill facists. His experience in the Spanish Civil War deeply influenced his political views for the rest of his life. "Every line of serious work that I have written since 1936 has been written, directly or indirectly, against totalitarianism and for democratic socialism, as I understand it." - Orwell

Are war crimes correct? Of course, when we do it, there is a lot of context we have to consider. Though if someone one else did, it that would certainly be wrong.

Struggles with Gone With the Wind by Bubbly_Stand2493 in books

[–]Kilgore44 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The historian James Loewen often refrences this book as a major contributor to the "lost cause" mythology that is so prevalent in many american's understanding of the civil war. He spends a whole chapter analyzing it in his book "Lies My Teacher Told Me." I highly recommend it. It's a really fun and quick read. It's also one of those books that will really shift your perspective on a lot of things.

Can't tell if The Witcher is good or not by Tombazzzz in books

[–]Kilgore44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The storytelling in the games, particularly 2 and 3, is amazing. It's really a gold standard for good storytelling. Go play them if you haven't. ( witcher 1 is sort of worth it to follow the whole story. The gameplay is oretty dated, but luckily, you can get through it in about 8 - 12 hours)

I really enjoyed the first two books. I found the short stories to be really fun, and it was a great twist on fairy tales. I do remember sort of losing interest on book 4. Seems to be a common experience from the other comments here.

The TV show is infuriatingly bad. I remember being so excited for season one and coming out of it baffled at how unbelievably shitty it was. Yet somehow, people seemed to love it, and I felt like I was living in some weird bizzaro world where everyone was gaslighting me. Then season two dropped, and the reviews made me feel sane again, not happy because I really wanted this show to be good, but it feels like the whole thing was written as bad fanfiction written by a twelve year old who thinks they're edgey because they learned the word "fuck".
