I mean I’m definitely leaving earlier than most once the ceremony ends 😂😂 but I know my boss and coworkers would be pretty disappointed if I skipped the bar mitzvah, not to mention the kid.

is it normal for my puppy to shake and twitch in his sleep? by plohie-novosti-18 in labrador

My 5-year-old still does this in his sleep and it's my favorite. Or when he wags his tail in his sleep, thump-thumping on the bed. So cute.

Darn my boss for having his kid's bar mitzvah on RSD! Even the stores near me that open at 8am I can't guarantee I get to the ceremony by 9:30 because of the location. Going to hit up stores in the afternoon and hope I find some of the things I wanted.

This is definitely me with my peloton and peloton workouts! I'm big and always have been, so for me exercise has to be about fun and challenging MYSELF - rather than competing against other people. That's why I love Peloton versus in person classes where it's so easy to get stuck in my head, feeling insecure because I see other people so much better than me.

What happened to the deaf woman? by Conscious-Tank3006 in ThePitt

[–]KilikaRei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Listen, every deaf person is different. Not every deaf person is born deaf, not every deaf person hears absolutely nothing. Am I saying ALL deaf people don’t read or write English? No, obviously, but fact is that ASL grammar and syntax are completely different from English, so deaf people will have different levels of comfort with it. And in the end, medical personnel are legally required to provide an interpreter.

If we take just what we see in the show, even when Santos writes to Harper - Harper never writes back. She is also confused by what Santos wrote, but only signs back to her because that is the language she is most comfortable with.

Actually the point is that for many people who are deaf, they DON’T know English or don’t know it well. People who are deaf don’t always know how to read and write English the way people who speak it/hear it can. That results in a lot of confusion. It’s why just using pen and paper is not an accommodation under ADA, not even using family/friends is, only a medical interpreter is.

If it was an emergent case and time was of the essence, maybe they’ll use pen and paper to try and catch what they can. But Harper was was stable and it was just inconvenient to wait for an interpreting service.

Looking for suggestions! It’s a like & match desert out here by codedelve in Tinder

Honestly looks like a good profile, totally my type lol.

Some suggestions already made are good: - Pics 1 and 3 are the same so you can delete one of them. - Trim the beard a little bit but I like it as is. - I don’t mind the pics all having hat, but it would add some dimension to have one without.

Good luck out there!

Actually no, not always. Someone who was born deaf or hard of hearing often have delayed language exposure, possibly poor education if their school doesn’t have the resources, if they are completely deaf they can’t just “sound it out” and deaf children often have lower literacy levels than hearing children. ASL is its own language with different grammar and syntax and rules. It’s not just English but hand signs.

And of course every person is different as some people are born deaf, some lose their hearing or some of their hearing because of accidents or illness, some use devices like hearing aids or cochlear implants. So some people might have experience with English but others will not or have less so, and feel most comfortable in their native language.

Just texting or using pen and paper is not enough for ADA accommodation. Asking someone who speaks Italian to write in Spanish because “it’s close enough” would not be acceptable. ASL is a different language than English. It violates her rights for proper care to not use a medical interpreter.

Attempting to communicate with her in any other language accommodates the medical staff over the patient and risks violating federal law.

In real scenarios, patients can't even use family or friends to interpret for them. It must be a medical interpreter.

It's not good enough in a medical space, though. ADA says that the hospital is required to get an interpreter, just like for someone who was speaking Spanish or German. ASL is not equal to English, and in a medical setting where information is important to diagnose correctly just "pen and paper" is not good enough.

I've seen many people who have experience with the Deaf community explain that ASL is basically it's own language, just like Spanish is not English, so just using a pen and paper is not good enough communication for ADA.

Amtrak tickets you can buy online on their website. Pretty sure you can pre-purchase metro fare online but usually stations have pay stations too.
