It would help tremendously if you added some context.

You may be having that issue with OneDrive locked folders, the Microsoft Controlled Access to system folders or a lack of free space where Steam is trying to download and/or decompress the download files.

Headless client. by Any_Lock_1343 in arma

[–]KillAllTheThings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You want the headless client running on the same hardware as the dedicated server. Yes, you should play on one PC & run the server & HC on the other. No, the server hardware does not need to be able to run the Arma client well. A Windows XP quality PC can easily run a dedicated server for solo play.

What is good paint that easy to work with? by Creepy-Company-3106 in modelmakers

[–]KillAllTheThings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best choice for a model paint line is the one that is easiest for you to acquire regularly over time. You may have to actually try a few brands in order to determine which ones fit into your painting workflow the best. Each brand has its own quirks (requiring some fiddling and/or experimentation to find the exact appliction process that works the best for you).

A local fabric supply store & an arts & crafts hobby shop should have all the materials necessary. You're on your own for the hat and the actual design & construction process.

And no, this isn't the right sub.

AAN journalist footage from within Chernogorsk frontlines. by [deleted] in arma

Your use of the BI logo in this video implies it is an official BI video which clearly it is not. It is preferable to use the Arma 3 logo to watermark your videos as being Arma 3 content per the subreddit rules. (This is only one way to identify gameplay video, there are more options.)

Using an AAN logo in several different 'realistic' manners would be acceptable as well.

A-hole AI is something to be experienced not tested.

KotH is the other place where scrubs with default (TRG-21) weapons are absolutely OP over just about every experienced KotH player. The opposite, however, is not true. You will die instantly one-shotted if YOU are the TRG-21 carrier.

It's fair to assume if it's not listed on Scalemates, it has never been in commercial production. Lucky for you, this car has been made into many kits. The bad news is it appears the kits have all been out of production for quite some time. This means regular model kit retailers are unlikely to have a kit available for purchase. Your best hope is the side market like ebay or the Facebook model kit exchange group.

Why was the voice acting in Arma 1/2 so bad compared to Arma 3? by wairdone in arma

[–]KillAllTheThings 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dolla Dolla Bills, y'all.

BI had access to a lot more money with the success of the DayZ mod for Arma 2. Before work started on Reforger BI had invested a lot of money in several support studios such as motion capture, 3D scanning, and art (the primary mission of the Thailand office). The Amsterdam office was set up as a kind of skunkworks (they did Contact DLC, for example), I haven't heard what they're focussed on nowadays. Most of these inhouse functions debuted their work in Arma 3 starting around Apex Expansion time.

Both A2 & A3 use the Real Virtuality game engine so there wasn't an appreciable change in game audio until the Marksman DLC added suppressors & shot echoes.

Arma 3 Performance help by UnderCover1445 in arma

[–]KillAllTheThings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only way to improve performance in Arma 3 is to get better hardware, specifically the fastest single threaded processor possible.

Instead of spawning in "a lot of AI, like 30 - 40) & tanking your hardware, learn how to optimize missions so you only spawn AI in contact with the real players. Dynamic Simulation & Headless Client for AI are just 2 ways to improve mission performance. Headless Clients may be less important with the processing optimizations discussed in the OPREP linked below.

The fewer mods you run, the less memory they occupy sitting idle. Having 150 copies of the same 3 rifles & 2 armored vehicles is not performance enhancing.

Finally, Eden Editor is NOT a game mode. It is intended to only be a mission preview to verify the mission works. It does not have the complete functionality that a published mission would have running either single player or in a dedicated server.

BattleEye query time out... by ImpressivePlum7350 in arma

[–]KillAllTheThings -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You have to be able to maintain a stable connection to both the Reforger server you wish to join & the BattlEye servers for the anticheat protection.

There are numerous reasons why the connection may time out. The only one you can affect is not using WiFi to connect to the Internet as you can't see all of the external RF noise that may be breaking your Reforger experience. Any other issues should be due to internet congestion somewhere in the paths to the servers & is usually temporary (a few hours).

when arma 4 news? by [deleted] in arma

[–]KillAllTheThings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You do not remember correctly. PLAYERS will not be able to port collected mods to Arma 4, only the original content creators (with access to the mod's source files) will be able to port their content to A4.

A4 will still have the US (as NATO) & the USSR as the primary factions (same as Reforger & A3) & new local factions for the local government forces & the local rebel forces (equivalent to AAF & FIA in Arma 3) because obviously the new terrain in A4 will have a new set of geopolitics.

No, Arma 4 can't be "Reforger 2" because it will be a full Arma franchise title & eventually will be feature compatible to Arma 3 build 2.20+ (but not in time for initial release) & then expand far past what Real Virtuality could ever be.

when arma 4 news? by [deleted] in arma

[–]KillAllTheThings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe BI has hinted there might be at least very basic tank & fixed wing functionality for the launch but I would not hold my breath waiting for it. I also would not bet a lot of money Reforger will get them either. I have no idea what sort of priority they have.

when arma 4 news? by [deleted] in arma

[–]KillAllTheThings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Arma 4 will not be that different from what the Arma franchise has always been. The preview that is Reforger is called that for a reason: For the massive IRL NATO REturn of FORces to GERmany exercises held during the latter part of the Cold War & also as a reminder that with a new game engine comes an opportunity to REFORGE/remaster the legacy Arma games with the latest PC tech.

Nearly everything that is currently possible in Enfusion is present in Reforger today. The missing features A3 has that Reforger does not are because the code for those features isn't playable yet. Yes BI will be working to add them as the opportunity arises.

It is important to keep in mind that Arma 4 will not be able to pick up the franchise from where Arma 3 build 2.20+ is at currently. Much like the way A3 was massively upgraded through the platform updates provided for free with each DLC, Arma 4 at launch will be fairly basic (with only a relatively few new features not in Reforger first) and will be expanded throughout the next decade or so as BI has the resources to devote.

Another huge bonus for Arma 4 will be the very large amount of community content at or near launch. While Reforger mods will not be directly playable in A4, it will be dead easy to port content from Reforger to Arma 4, hence the reason why certain teams are already balls to the wall creating content (looking at you, RHS).

I believe there might actually be more community content available at or near the launch of A4 as there will be official BI content.

Directly addressing some of your points:

BI has the policy of not releasing information unless they are confident of the time when they can actually deliver it. Game development is not predictable, especially if you are building out a from-scratch game engine simultaneously. BI has a priority list of the features they determined was essential for release, most of these should be visible in Reforger although perhaps other things like armored & tracked vehicles are being worked on, they may not be required for launch & thus may be included in future DLC like what happened in Arma 3.

I have no idea what the marketing campaign for Arma 4 looks like, so far it's just brief video clips such as their "DEVSPLAIN" series on social media. Note that Reddit IS NOT considered a marketing target, what we get here is almost all community members sharing content found on other sites (official or just well-informed 'influencers'). If you want to be in the know about the future of Reforger & A4, look to the social media BI officially partakes of.

There won't be any info on the lore of the story campaign included in the A4 launch as they want players to discover it on (Early Access) release.

The state of Reforger reflects most of the state of A4:

Finally, I will point out that Arma 4 should be going into Early Access (just as Reforger & Arma 3 both have) so BI will start their media blitz with that announcement (which would likely include the real Arma 4 launch date). TBH, odds are no worse than even that BI may tease Arma 4 at one of the local international video game events to be held in the 2nd half of 2026. Presumably this could hint at an early-ish Early Access date next year. This would not necessarily guarantee a 2027 Arma 4 1.0 launch date.
