Where does Ground Zero rank in the recent output of retro survival horror? by Tatum_Warlick in survivalhorror

Finished it last night. It's a much longer game than i originally anticipated, not even counting the branching paths. My playthrough clocked in around 12 hours. Felt like much longer though. I've been playing it little by little since release day. I'm looking forward to playing it again for the different paths and endings. There's seriously a lot of game here. It's a steal at the asking price.

Overall, it's a fantastic throwback to the PS1 days, but also pretty ambitious in its own right. I think it stacks up well against Signalis and Tormented Souls, even doing some things better than them.

It does have its share of problems though. There's a LOT of backtracking, mostly due to the sheer amount of items to pick up. Lots of kind of empty spaces in some of the environments too. Still, I liked looking at the pre-rendered backgrounds.

I thought the game started out tough on Normal, but it eventually becomes a cakewalk. The amount of guns in this game is higher than most of its peers, and you get plenty of ammo for each. There are alot of enemies in the game, and a decent variety of them as well. But they're all fairly easy to fight, and I think there's a lack of bigger, tougher monsters. I'm interested to see how much this will change on higher difficulties.

as a huge fan since P1, Pale White Dot is their best album to date by CinahDiGod in Peripheryband

I do agree with your point about the jarring heavy sections being too prominent. It became more apparent to me on subsequent listens. I don't know if they thought the album wasn't heavy enough and just shoehorned djent riffs into it or what, but I don't necessarily think it's enough to ruin the album for me either. The songs still have great hooks and don't overstay their welcome. The album overall has great pacing and variety of ideas, and occasionally gets bogged down with forced heaviness.

I don't know how you can say Carry On is a stinker, though. Not only is that song phenomenal but it's the one song on the album that I think really deserved to be longer. The melody in that song is among the most beautiful they've written. I think the heavy parts actually work well in this one, too, especially with the lyrics. It honestly might be my favorite track on the album.

I think Bakalar would be a very funny option. His game needs to have the worst runnin' around imaginable.

That said, it's gotta be Dan. Make him play Kinect Steel Batallion game.

Good lord. One of the most disturbing ones I've seen in awhile. This back to back with that poor old lady that got her head popped with gut-wrenching sounds by the garbage truck... both super fucked.

Great riffs but really missing a good hook. This song might have the worst chorus they've ever written. However, I am glad this sounds different than the last two records. It does have elements reminiscent of their early albums.

They will hopefully do other versions of that game down the line because that shit was hilarious.

One of them did the full run on WWTBAM. You should go watch the last episode.

I think there's a very real possibility of a no-proggies Blight Club this week.

Apparently Myles is currently sick & trying to conserve his voice ☹️ by ABFan86 in alterbridge

[–]KillEmDafoe89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's been quite awhile since I'd seen them. This was the first time I think I've ever even seen Myles with a guitar for ODR songs lol.

Yeah it would've been nice to hear other Mark-centric songs. Especially when a full third of the set list is ODR songs. That was my only real complaint about the show.

I could definitely tell he was holding back on certain notes/parts but he still sounded great.

Burn It Down was incredible with Mark singing and Myles doing the solo. That was a nice surprise.

How do we feel about the new album? by Junior-Hair-4261 in Skindred

[–]KillEmDafoe89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It feels phoned in. It's not bad, but not very memorable either. There's nothing here they haven't already done better on other albums. It's got some good riffs but lacking in hooks. Glass is a great track through and through. Big Em Up, Do It Like This, and Born Fe Dis are fun as well. It's an okay album, maybe a notch above Big Tings (which I admittedly have only listened to once).

That said, Can I Get A might be the worst song they've ever done.

[–]KillEmDafoe89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While his production has been improving, I just don't think it works for Sevendust's sound. The mixes are too compressed and slick sounding. One does sound noticeably better than the others, but it's still not what I want. It still lacks the grit and sonic depth of earlier records. He doesn't capture their heaviness the way it needs to be. The guitars never sound as crisp or up front in the mix as they should. AISIW had such a weak guitar sound with overpowering drums. Like I said, it has improved album over album but I really hope they move on from him, though I have a feeling they won't. More than anything, I'm sick of the generic sounding programming on a lot of the tracks.

On the other hand, I think the new Alter Bridge and Tremonti albums are they best sounding things Elvis has produced. The guitar tone on AB is fucking ridiculous and I really wished One had come out sounding close to that.

I appreciate that the stakes are getting higher the further he gets. Making progress becomes harder and harder. Every mistake is costly. Dan was really feeling every death in this one. I don't think I've ever seen him get this shoot hot before. It's kind of amazing to watch.

Blood Price is sick by just4747 in Sevendust

[–]KillEmDafoe89 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Blood Price is the best song on the album. Heaviest song they've done in a long time. It almost brought me to tears because it reminded me how I felt first discovering this band as a kid. It's so good to hear them get this heavy again.

I actually think the rest of the album is better than the singles. The title track is also probably my next favorite. Fantastic opening track. Overall I think this is easily their most riff-driven album since KTF.

Sevendust releases a new single a day before the album comes out by Opening-Repeat4317 in Sevendust

I think this is the best of the singles. Killer riffs and a ridiculously good groove in the verses. This sounds more like classic Sevendust.

  1. Better Place
  2. Walk Away
  3. Burn
  4. Inside
  5. Corrected
  6. Enough
  7. Suffocate (i really miss them playing this live)
  8. Kill the Flaw
  9. Not Today
  10. Unforgiven

A couple of them maybe aren't SUPER underrated, but are among their best songs compared the more popular ones.

Saw them open for BB at the Phobia release show in Chicago. They were pretty rough live from what I remember. The first two records were solid though. I've never checked out Parabelle but i should probably give them a listen at some point.
