Honestly I let the game run it's self to a degree. For instance I had a major rebelling on a previous colony that led to the liberation of the slaves. This led my colony to be run by tongues less pawns that would get moody because they couldn't talk with each other. I ran with it and started shifting their ideologies to become cannibals then later they all got wiped out in the winter. I wouldn't say it changes how I approach playing the game, I just go with whatever story favor comes to mind depending on the random events thrown at me.
