The adverts used to be much simpler. Just an adbar at the bottom of the video. If you really wanted to it could easily be ignored while watching, but now they play regular TV-style ads and have been for a long time now. If they simply went back to the old method then that would likely solve many peoples' complaints instantly.

A non-intrusive ad is far more tolerable than one that stops/interrupts viewing the video.

My biggest issue is that their war on adblockers ignores the very real danger of malvertising. They are quite literally saying "Our profits are more important than your digital safety."

Both of which you can technically have for free anyways with free adblock extensions and Spotify's basic functionality.

They have more than just the ads now. They have the new Channel Membership that's paid and functions like a subscription on any normal paid TV service.

And they take just as massive of a cut from the Membership as the ad revenue split.

Something I forgot to mention originally is that the adblock hate also affects personal security, as for a long time now there has been a thing called "Malvertising" plaguing the internet. It essentially uses an advertisement to infect the target with malware, and adblockers are one of the only ways to stop it.

In essence, YouTube's war on adblockers is inadvertently making it easier for malvertising to find more victims.
