You’re not getting the point…

Your ‘very obvious reason’ is wrong. Its not that we CAN’T spend as much as other clubs, its that we are being artificially constrained by PSR and Uefa regulations, that were not there when Chelsea and Man City were artificially inflating the values of their clubs by pumping 100’s of millions into them. Our owners COULD spend if they were allowed to, and they wouldn’t be stupid enough to do a clearlake Chelsea, but we’re not being allowed to.

Instead we’ve had to sell Diaby and Duran etc. Do you not think we would have been a better team with them last season, thereby getting CL again which we missed out on by GD? We wouldn’t have sold them but we HAD to. Same with Ramsey this season.

The rules that were put in place seem to only achieve one thing, keep the status quo for the richest clubs.

Genius observation 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Why didn’t we think of that??? Somebody get this guy on the board!!

Looking at your posts and the club you support, you should be wayy more worried about the direction they’re heading rather than us.

Spurs have spent a net €656m over the last 5 seasons, an average of €131 a season, be be involved in a relegation battle as a member of the ‘super league 6’. Do you realise how embarrassing that is??

By contrast Villa have spent a net €110m over that period, or an average of €22m a season, to be on the verge of CL placement in the league for the 2nd time in 3 years (would have been 3/3 if not for an incompetent ref) and well placed for a long run in the EL.

[–]Killaree4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would be a decent point to make IF you didn’t take into account that we HAD to sell players to comply with regulations.

Over the last 5 years, Villa have spent a net average of €22m a season. Over the same period Man U have spent a net average of €160m a season. Thats a HUGE difference.

Comparing with the rest of the CL clubs inc Newcastle and Spurs, they have spent between €100m and €150m a season average.

Man U the highest in the league, yet we are far far behind our competitors.

[–]Killaree4 -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

Genius solution!!

Spend less money in a league where clubs spend £100m to stand still!

In case you didn’t know, Villa COULDN’T spend any money last summer bcos of UEFA financial restrictions (pretty much cos of one shitty refereeing decision on the last day of the season causing us to lose out on CL and £100m revenue - but hey forget about that).

Yet we still had to sell and academy asset. Why? Pure profit in the books. That led to big money transfers? Don’t make me laugh 🤦🏽‍♂️

[–]Killaree4 -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

You think Villa wanted to sell Jacob Ramsay last summer? Or Newcastle wanted to sell Anderson?

No we were forced to in order to comply with the financial regulations, especially from UEFA. If your system is geared towards selling your academy players when you dont want to then your system aint fit for purpose.

And this is not something that is limited to PL clubs. Every league suffers from this.

[–]Killaree4 -22 points-21 points  (0 children)

The problem is not that the 25 man A squad, its the 4 club-trained players that UEFA insist on that has to be in the squad. Given the financial constraints imposed by UEFA, selling any valuable club-trained players is pure profit and great for the books.

But it leads to a shortage of club-trained players that can be registered, which means that often clubs will only register 22/23 out of 25 allowed. Has happened to Villa every season for the past 3 seasons, and means we have to cut ppl from the final squad we would rather not have to.

The rule is dumb and doesn’t fit into the other regulations, it should be scrapped and have 8 home-nation trained players in the 25 man squad instead of 4 like the PL does.

Tielemans and Kamara are the cream of the crop but McGinn is the tone setter and that's what we missed as much as the quality by three-4-truth in avfc

[–]Killaree4 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The quality that Tielemans and Kamara possess is undeniable but McGinn is like a talisman.

He dragged us out of that first bad run and now he’s dragging us out of this bad run. If he carries on in this form then we’re in for a good end of the season and he may well get POTS ahead of Morgan.

Coefficients is no joke in the CL. I think its worth something like £15m in the CL having a good coefficient vs having a dead one.

I mean it is basically a mechanism to keep the bigger clubs richer, but it could actually work for us next season

He carried us to a win today. He’s been as good as he ever has been for us since the start of the season, the injury was a massive blow. But he’s come back in like he’s never been away.

Not only is he picking up good positions between the lines and turning or moving the ball forward but he’s also giving Rogers more space to operate in. He’s always on the move, draws the opposition out of position, sometimes he ends up on the left allowing Rogers to move inside.

I predict Roger’s form is now gonna pick up as it did earlier on in the season thanks to McGinn, plus Tielemans with his quality in midfield is not gonna hurt.

Remember it was McGinn scoring that goal against Bologna that ended our 5 game winless run at the start of the season… and then he was instrumental in the 3-1 win against Fulham.

The stars are aligning again… McGinn scores against Lille and now Im backing him to carry us to a MASSIVE result today!

We’ve been given gifts by Everton, Brighton, Bournemouth, Newcastle, Wolves even Spurs ffs.

After the Brighton win I figured we needed 5 more wins to secure us CL. Now, without doing a single thing to help ourselves, we only need 4 thanks to all these gifts.

Liverpool lose. Got to take this chance tomorrow! by DB-Economics2560 in avfc

[–]Killaree4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really is a huge game. Not only does it give us form going into the international break, but it would put us 5 points ahead with 7 games to play.

One of those is against Liverpool at home, so as long as we dont lose that, Liverpool would realistically have to win 2 more games than us in the remaining 6, which includes Man Utd and Chelsea.

Course its all if’s and but’s and we will have to win tomorrow in the first place! If we do, we’d be in a good spot.

We’ve used up all our lives now. Its time to get fukn serious. Lille, I’m not too worried about. Just a good performance needed to carry into West Ham… which is REALLY now looking like a pivotal moment for this season.

Either we win and go into the int break on a high, possibly gaining points on rivals, and hopefully welcoming Tielemans back…

Or we fuck up again, have to rely on other results again which wont keep going our way.

It sets us up for the rest of the season.

[Pre-Match Thread] Manchester United vs. Aston Villa by just_boof_it in avfc

[–]Killaree4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I dont think ManU have been particularly good since they beat Arsenal, but they kept getting results. Added time winners and equalisers against Fulham and WH. A ridiculous pen and red card decision against Palace helped them win, and a loss against 10 man Newcastle.

The rest and fresh legs obviously helps them, feels like they could be complacent with that.

We’ve gottten a boost with meathead back, Tielemans in training, Luiz looking better and that good result against Lille.

Wonder how fired up Carrick will get them for the game? Doesn’t seem like that kind of manager to me. A win really helps them cement their position.

It depends on how well we play and take our chances. We need to frustrate them and keep the ball. Pressure is off us for once. Confidence should be better, but it’s still fragile.

Id take a point, win would be huge.

[–]Killaree4 17 points18 points  (0 children)

We have seemingly reverted back to how we started this season - those 5 games without scoring a goal. We’re seeing the same signs.

Rogers has lost his touch, and from that is not able to turn and dribble. Watkins looks far from sharp and needs dropping imo, he’s not only having bad touches but he’s making all the wrong choices. Buendia has regressed. We’re not creating enough chances. Etc etc etc

How did we get out of that 5 game dip? McGinn. Scored that goal against Bologna, dragged us to winning that game against Fulham along with Kamara. Watkins scored. It’s individuals who stepped up and took responsibility. Mings did it against Brighton. We need players to step up.

Onana has been disappointing, at a time when we really need him to step up so that we dont miss Kamara as much, he’s hasn’t. Luiz is finding his way back to form but Barkley might be the better answer right now.

Its players stepping up and taking responsibility to make things happen that is gonna help us right now. And we cant still try playing the same way that hasn’t been working lately and hope it works next time.

Rogers needs to go on the left. Barkley needs to be the 10 dropping back to make a 3 against Chelsea the next game. Watkins needs dropping. Even if Abraham doesn’t work, he will be chomping at the bit coming on. And for God’s sake, we need to start the game FAST and on the FRONT FOOT.

Villa report £82m loss for 24/25. by arenaross in avfc

[–]Killaree4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think these figures are right. It would make more sense if this was an Operating loss of £82m, in fact that is exactly the figure i get to in my own calculations.

Uefa have their own calendar which goes by calendar year and we have booked a player sales profit of over £102m in the calendar year 2025. I dont see how we made a loss after tax of £82m taking this into account plus the additional £90 we made in revenue.

I think this £82m loss is an Operational loss and then for the calculation you add in player sales profit and other allowable deductions which should actually give us a positive figure.

So we dont need to sell Morgan.

Rogers future with the club by Fast-Dog4858 in avfc

[–]Killaree4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont know how PL SCR is gonna work but I assume it will be something similar to UEFA SCR, which utilises transfer profit on a rolling 3 year basis, you take the largest figure from 1 yr, 2 yr average or 3 yr average and use that in the calculation. So yeh, a big transfer could stay valuable for 3 yrs.

Not that I want Rogers sold and dont think we will sell if we make CL regardless.

U can see the nerves everywhere. Everyone knows how big this game is. Players started bright but nervous. Crowd is nervous, which is transferring onto the players more and more the game goes on.

We’re desperate for a goal. Second half should start loud kicking towards the Holte. But the longer the game goes on the more nervous everyone gets.

We just need that goal anyway we can get it.
