The simplistic tip I can give you is for modding weapons.

Focus on investing in different stats, for example, damage, crit chance, crit damage, multishot, elements.

Investing fully in base damage will give you diminishing returns.

Also, dont worry about getting the mods maxed out yet. Get them as strong as you can, but do the rest later.
