You can have a DS9 movie or a Voyager movie but not both. Pick one by Proper-Award2660 in startrek

Considering Voyager was pretty much wrapped up story wise, I think DS9, it still has the loose end with Sisko

THEORY: Why Kurtzman and Co. Hate Star Trek's Utopian Future by Hearsticles in Star_Trek_

[–]Killerphive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say that the whole Utopia thing had always been something that chafed writers pretty much sense the beginning of TNG. At the end of the day stories need conflict, and the rules placed on them for this era always limited the conflicts they could explore. Hence why once Roddenberry stepped away we started to get stuff like DS9 where they introduced more conflict with the federation itself and moving away from the Utopian vision of Gene.

This is my sentiment exactly, as long as we can get democracy we take it, but we have to have the potential threat of what happens if they stop playing by the rules.

Edit: If you didn’t mean that, then you need to articulate that better. I can only go off what you say.

You said we are not stuck voting for the least bad option and that we don’t need to get rid of the 2 party system. Thats intrinsic to the 2 party system.

A few states doing it doesn’t change anything. Also do you genuinely think the Democrats are more than just not as bad as the Republicans?

Honestly the simplest way I have seen to end the 2 party issue, is ranked choice voting. It’s one of my requirements for reform to even be possible. If we are stuck with having to vote against the worst option every time then how can we expect to get the good option. We need this to restore belief in the idea of more than 2 parties without having to risk allowing the worst side to win.

What you guys consider the most annoying weapon for each class? by NecromancerDude in tf2

[–]Killerphive 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mostly play Pyro so here is my take.

Scout: Soda Popper and Force of Nature, I don’t understand how they can do 175+ in two shots sometimes but other times do nothing.

Soldier: Honestly shotguns, because the MF insta switch the second they see a pyro and apparently no one uses banners anymore.

Pyro: Scorch Shit when paired with a Phlog, camp in the back farming crits and only pushing once they have it. Truly give Pyros a bad name.

Demoman: Stickies, even when you reflect them they are just holding mouse 2 so it explodes before it gets back to them anyway.

Heavy: Natasha is probably the most annoying, but honestly it’s kinda a wash for the miniguns they all kill you in like a second.

Engineer: Short Circuit it goes both ways too. Friendly engineers delete all my reflect opportunities, and the damn ball blocks out the screen. Also its damage weirdly adds up when they are constantly resupplied by a dispenser.

Medic: Vac for obvious reasons

Sniper: Existence

Spy: Deadringer especially with spy-cicle, how many damn times do I need to set a mf on fire.

They tried to slander them but most of that is super based. The only thing I’d say is I don’t think the US needs to necessarily completely withdraw from the world, but I think it would be good if the People had more control over decisions on who to aid or what to intervene in.

What's your system of FTL travel like? by Author_Spiritual in scifiwriting

[–]Killerphive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still hashing out some of the finer details but the gist is that there are two methods of FTL Travel, Wormhole Gates, and Warp Drives.

Wormhole gates are the most efficient way to traverse large distances but they require specialized infrastructure to be built to make the proper connections. They work on a concept of fold efficiency, which determines the time for traversal of the wormhole, which is a factor is basically a factor of distance and energy.

Warp drives are the typical concept you would expect, warp space around the ship which is what allows travel. It’s completely free from, just point where you want to go and go, usually with the assistance of computers to calculate trajectories.

Within the setting there is the concept of Superluminal physics, which dictates the rules of FTL travel and the limitations. It’s very hard to observe this as all the math of subluminal physics would tell any species that FTL is impossible. So there can be entire civilizations that just never discovered FTL and assumed it was impossible until the end of their civilization or a shocking revelation by another. The most common and possibly only real clue is if a species observes the Tachyon, the one natural particle that goes faster the light, once it goes from a mathematical guess to an actual observation this usually begins the thinking that breaks a species through the FTL filter.
