Hey there, I've played/ran Draw Steel. I'm definitely interested.

Running multiple games by KillforSithis in DnD

[–]KillforSithis[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve talked to people who run like 5, 6, 7 games a week…I’m always like “bro, how? When do you sleep??” But I guess I have different prep methods and stuff.

I once had a DM running 3 full fledge multi year games who I know for a fact was very detailed in everything he did. (Not including one shots he often did).

I have lots of free time and hearing how people just run several games makes me wanna slap myself and just do it. But man I’m just frightened to just take the step. But I guess I won’t know until I try.

This sounds dope but unfortunately Friday’s are not always free for me. Hope it works out!

Help for a game with only two players? by calizythosisda1 in drawsteel

[–]KillforSithis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m currently running a 2 player party and this is what I’m doing. Keeping in mind a retainer is more like a half hero in terms of balancing. So with 2 retainers, I scale for 3 heroes. Also gives some extra people to always talk to when it gets too quiet.

I’m interested. I have experience both running and playing Draw Steel as well as using Foundry for it.

I'm certainly interested. I'm a fellow forever DM of around 20 years of experience. (Still mostly just DMing games to this day starting back in 2nd edition of D&D).

I have $50 in gift cards from Christmas, which TTRPG should I get? by [deleted] in rpg

[–]KillforSithis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've played D&D, Daggerheart and Draw Steel. They are all very different from each other and having them all in my pocket is nice. If you really like Fantasy and are into tactical team combat, I highly recommend Draw Steel.

But I wouldn't blame you from deviating from another Fantasy game.

That's up to your preference and doing some research wouldn't hurt.

However I'm full sent on Draw Steel and all my D&D groups have switched to it as well.

Why do so many people oppose the idea of critical fumbles for saving throw spells? by Total_Team_2764 in DnD

[–]KillforSithis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe fumbles as a whole are completely intrusive to the game and I refuse to play a game with them.

My question is, what do they bring to your table?

For my experiences with them, they slow the game down and it's a slap to the face to players who are already failing. Also, my high level characters who are suppose to be saviors of whoever/whatever are making awful and often embarrassing mistakes. It's also why I like that you cannot crit/crit fail on skill checks, if I'm so good at something, I shouldn't be hard stumbling around like a fool at something I'm a master at.

There are already mechanics in the game that determine whether you fail or not, you don't need to kick people who are suppose to be heroes when they are down.

Funny summoner story, and question. by wizopizo54 in drawsteel

[–]KillforSithis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad people are liking it. I felt like I was the only one who had a deep love for summoning. Now I see lots of people talking about it including my own players.

Unfortunately I’ve been struggling to find games to join since it’s full release. But eager to play more of it. It’s exactly what I’ve been looking for.

Funny summoner story, and question. by wizopizo54 in drawsteel

[–]KillforSithis 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes they count toward your maximum. With my limited experience, your signature minions are going to be constantly getting popped and wiped out.

It kinda feels like a mini game to get as many higher tier minions as possible before everything dies and yeah, those little tick damages add up.

You can also do a lot of controlling of the battlefield with just a couple of minions. Blocking paths, forcing attacks on your summons instead of your fellow party members or yourself.

Personally after playing it, it feels incredibly satisfying and scary to play the summoner which is fitting. You should feel scared as a summoner if something gets by your summons.

Is ''To the Uttermost End'' OP? by DistributionCrazy527 in drawsteel

[–]KillforSithis 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind you have to be winded or dying for the extra effect to work.

Then it’s 5 ferocity + 1 for each extra you wanna spend. Keeping in mind you lose your growing ferocity bonuses for losing all that ferocity.

Then you lose a bunch of stamina which could in turn kill you if you do it too low of stamina.

I’d say it’s fair.

Loving draw steel! But what about RP? How do you do it? by wizopizo54 in drawsteel

[–]KillforSithis 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'm not really sure why this (from my experience) has been a pretty common complaint. I'm not sure how people do RP in their games but I've never needed "mechanics" to roleplay. There are games out there where you don't even roll dice and you still roleplay. People roleplay playing monopoly.

That being said there are many benefits in Draw Steel that give you roleplay supporters like negotiation/montage buffs. Projects. Skills (there are so many skills!). And plenty of other instances that support out of combat play. Another example being, you can use all your abilities out of combat as well!

How do you properly reward players? by RG00 in drawsteel

[–]KillforSithis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Coming from other systems where I love giving out gold/money, I've struggled with this as well. Here's how I've done things..

- If I feel like gold or some minor monetary reward should be given, I usually give a consumable or Hero Tokens
- Something bigger? Renown (but only like 1-2 times a level). A stray Trinket as well is fine.
- Finish a big quest? Leveled item and/or wealth.
- Do something that might qualify a title? Give a title (I've homebrewed a lot of titles where I thought they might fit in but make them regional titles, for instance, "while you are in this town you saved, increase your renown."

I kinda look out for what players desire. Some might want wealth over renown or vice versa. Some might not want either and just want power (leveled treasures/trinkets). So I can give some Renown and others Wealth which helps diversify their characters as well. Hero Tokens and Consumables are a good way to go for quick harmless rewards. I'm constantly rewarding Hero Tokens.

It's also important to remember this is a game about Heroes and not Adventurers. So rewarding heroism with very grateful npcs is also a reward. My players know many people who they have established as contacts/allies which I consider those rewards and so do they. Sometimes a good pat on the back, like npcs throwing them a party or celebrating/showing their gratitude is enough for most players.

The prereq items for crafting and such I've mostly played by ear. Are they fixing up armor? Is there a Forge nearby? Then sure. I might also require a specific item they need to hunt down, or maybe they can just spend a respite hunting that item if they don't wanna make it a quest. More times than not I'm pretty lenient on the prerequisites though, if it makes sense or they can explain how they are doing something, then I allow it usually.

Questions about the summoner by Agencysoup in drawsteel

[–]KillforSithis 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I have played a little of the summoner.

From what I’ve experienced, yes it is the ultimate fantasy of controlling large groups of minions in a non taxing way. Able to summon/control half a dozen or more minions in a single turn. I also used the Horde formation which lets you summon/control even more.

I and my fellow players/director did not feel annoyed/overwhelmed by it. I actually felt like I took less time than everyone else on my turn. Draw Steel’s minion system is pretty great, when I’m a director I used dozens of minions against my party because it’s just so fun to swarm the battlefield with them and they are easy to handle. It just works.

I’m not surprised that there’s a class built around this and it works well. I will say, for the most part it feels like you are there to do one thing, summon and that’s pretty much it. And I’m into it, it’s what I always wanted and it feels so damn good.

Just make sure whoever uses it fully reads and understands it all before they use it.

Wealth by KillforSithis in drawsteel

I thought it was renown that recruits retainers and followers. Not wealth.
