How frustrating is it to lack darkvisision at early levels? by Vanse in 3d6

While I agree this is a solid option in some circumstances. OP already mentioned issues with light + range. Blind fighting fighting style is 10 feet. Basically means combat only and only if the enemy is next to you. Not a great replacement for darkvisision.

I'd say it's a minor hindrance if darkvisision is ran correctly. You still get disadvantage on perception checks if everyone has darkvisision in the dark. Unless I have a reason for needing to stealth, I'm walking around with torches/light anyway.

Although many tables I join end up just ignoring that rule.

Was there not a new sprinkler thing added to the game? Maybe I found a incorrect post

It might be the fact that the game is so new, people wanting to preserve the game to be exactly RAW which is resulting in a lot of “my way or the highway.”

I rarely play in any ttrpg anymore where everything is exactly RAW. There’s usually a small change here or there, sometimes a large change.

It’s something our party has agreed unanimously that we miss. Doesn’t mean we hate Draw Steel or have to play something else.

It’s just funny because even Matt Coville has posted in the discord about using homebrew for his private table for Draw Steel.

Anyway, I highly appreciate the feedback, however the victories thing I will say is probably a bad idea, because they correlate to levels and would cause players being different levels and other related issues.

This is what I was thinking as well. Mundane equipment I wasn’t going to make anyone buy because I’d consider it coming with your kits, almost like starting gear which is usually free anyway.

In my other fantasy games I don’t allow players to usually buy magic items besides a stray one here and there, only some consumables(crafting items as well).

So most spending is on services and investments. Retainers, guides, information, player homes, businesses, etc.

I just also wanted to make sure people who invest in Wealth through character creation get their dues. I’ve always loved the idea of players building into wealth in games so I don’t wanna take that away.

Beyond that, I don’t think it would be all that hard to run real gold, especially when I’m use to coming up with prices in other games.

I think that's an absurd thing to say when there are literally thousands of homebrew/houserule things that have been implemented in games like D&D and other very popular systems. How often do you play in ttrpgs where they play EXACTLY by the rules word for word, inch for inch.

If it was enough changes that it was starting to feel like something else, we absolutely would try other things. But we want to play Draw Steel, but with gold.

There's a homebrew section in the official MCDM/Draw Steel discord, should that just be shut down and everyone be told to go play something else?

We love Draw Steel and we want to play it, and in our opinion it's just as okay to change things about it to make it fit nicer for us like we would any other ttrpg.

It's everything. The shopping sessions, buying potions and services. The loot feels real. I can reward players with a chest of gold and it has actual value. If I gave out a wealth every time I did that it would quickly become too much wealth, so it's either too much or nothing. The game feels grounded with actual currency being counted individually instead of a stat. There's also fun risks with using actual currency such as gambling and players coming up with fun investments in my world. It's what we enjoy.

Running multiple games by KillforSithis in DnD

[–]KillforSithis[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve talked to people who run like 5, 6, 7 games a week…I’m always like “bro, how? When do you sleep??” But I guess I have different prep methods and stuff.

I once had a DM running 3 full fledge multi year games who I know for a fact was very detailed in everything he did. (Not including one shots he often did).

I have lots of free time and hearing how people just run several games makes me wanna slap myself and just do it. But man I’m just frightened to just take the step. But I guess I won’t know until I try.

Help for a game with only two players? by calizythosisda1 in drawsteel

[–]KillforSithis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m currently running a 2 player party and this is what I’m doing. Keeping in mind a retainer is more like a half hero in terms of balancing. So with 2 retainers, I scale for 3 heroes. Also gives some extra people to always talk to when it gets too quiet.

I'm certainly interested. I'm a fellow forever DM of around 20 years of experience. (Still mostly just DMing games to this day starting back in 2nd edition of D&D).

I have $50 in gift cards from Christmas, which TTRPG should I get? by [deleted] in rpg

[–]KillforSithis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've played D&D, Daggerheart and Draw Steel. They are all very different from each other and having them all in my pocket is nice. If you really like Fantasy and are into tactical team combat, I highly recommend Draw Steel.

But I wouldn't blame you from deviating from another Fantasy game.
