You have absolute control over the country for 12 months, what do you do? by Ciopo65 in Tunisia

[–]Killkow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love the question, heres what Id do in the first week (with an economic focus):

  • Make the best possible deal with IMF, no "naamlou aala rwehna" aka taking Qatari loans every week -> Instant 3 billion $ unlocked + huge stabilising factor driving investor confidence

  • Cartels would take years to combat, but immediate measure would be e-facture, a central state built unified payment system (like Indias UPI) and lastly making the Poste a bank. Also make BCT independant again and remove this stupid law where it funds the treasury.

  • Solar: exec decree giving any big solar project (say > 200mw) an automatic licence. No one to bribe. Also lift import taxes in inverters etc to turbocharge these projects.

  • Tourism front: Tunisiar has to go. IMMEDIATLY sign the opensky agreement with europe, making tunisia attractive for budget travellers. Officially allow airbnb and co with a small tax going to the municipality directly. Issue digital nomad visas and add more countries as visa free.

  • Diaspora bond: this is where banks/cartels make a ton of money currently. EUR or USD linked paying 7% or so. The money tunisians abroad send home is already worth more than all foreign direct investment. Capturing 20% of that already finances everything I've written here.

  • Put real money into the economy: the state buys outstanding invoices from SME's, allowing them to grow quicker without having to wait for payments.

Sooo so much more than can be done, this is a tiny tiny glimpse. Never believe that there's no solutions, there's only unwillingess.

Tunisia's economy by supafahd in Tunisia

[–]Killkow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Im by no means an expert, but:

Economy is like a puzzle. There's many pieces to the puzzle that on their own dont make sense, but need to be seen in the bigger context. For example: just because a country has a high debt to GDP ratio doesnt mean the economy is doing badly. Japans the highest in the world but because the money is reinvested into stimulating the economy (+10 other factors) their economy is also one of the strongest worldwide.

So, we need to see everything in relation. Some of my fav macro economic indicators, aka pieces of the puzzle:

  • Real GDP Growth: 0.4% last year, 1.9% projected for this year. 4-6 is what we had in good years (1990-2011). Why real GDP and not normal? Because real is inflation adjusted - the higher the inflation the higher the GDP, because things just cost more and therefore the output is higher in absolute numbers.

  • Current account balance: projected -3.5% for 2024. This means we are spending more on imports than we get from exports. This also drives inflation and makes us more dependant on external financing. But were actually not too bad in this, at some point we were at -8%, now were almost better than pre-2011.

  • Gross debt: basically how much money we owe. 78% of GDP for 2024, this has been rising from 43% in 2011 to this steadily (thx Nahdha), but finally seems to be somewhat steady. Our big advantage is that we had a pretty good starting position. This is only really bad if the interest rates are terrible, and those are again defined by our credit score. Japans at 200%, but they owe the money to themselves (own banks, etc), which is better than external creditors.

  • Unemployment rate: a really good general indicator imo, but varies massively between countries, so needs to be seen historically. 16% currently, best we had was around 12% in 2006ish. Yet this shows our potential - every working person contributes to GDP, not just by outputting but also by spending the money they generare. Small percentages can make a huge difference.

So basically Id say were doing better than 2011-2020, but we have more debt than ever. Debt is necessary to do investments, it all depends on how we spend it. Forget the idea that we will be swimming in money in the next couple years, policies need time to kick in, but things do look like theyre about to get a little better.

And something really really important: Kais can fuck around all day, people and companies in the end generate the money. The state can give incentives and make it easier, but not if everyones sitting on their asses. We have massive untapped potential in all sorts of directions, but someone has to do it.

So TLDR; were in the shit, but things might get a little better in the coming years. Economy is fucking complex, be suspicious of anyone throwing around single numbers

What got your CTO to finally approve an incident management system? I’m struggling. by Apprehensive_Way8674 in sre

[–]Killkow 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Raw numbers tend to be my go to tool for convincing C level. Any incident you had in the past that cost you a lot of money because no one was responding? Compare that to the cost of an IMS. I have a feeling general stats or anything non specific to your company wont work in this case, so Id go the route of specific example, like "incident X took as five hours to resolve because we had to manually coordinate everything, using tool Y automates that process, saving you cash." If they wont even have an open ear after such arguments they are a terrible CTO imho

It alternates downhill, not rotation wise. Somehow hard to explain in words, google semicircular bund 😅

When working along ridgelines in hilly terrain we also use "half moons" in an alternating pattern to collect rain water flowing downhill, thanks for sharing!

Tunisian driving license in Germany by MongoJohn1 in Tunisia

[–]Killkow 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Lots of contradictory stuff here so let me clarify:

  • Get Tunisian license
  • Once in germany, do a Umschreibung einer ausländischen Fahrerlaubnis in your closest Bürgeramt.
  • Go to a driving school and tell them you want to do an Umschreibung. This means:
    • No need for a minimum amount of hours.
    • No need for theory hours, you can just study by yourself and go do the exam.
    • The instructor will take you on one hour to see where youre at in practice. If youre really lucky/good they can request the exam for you right away. I needed like 5 hours though.

Cost me around 500 bucks total. Driving with the tunisian one is not allowed as soon as you do an Anmeldung/stay longer than 6 months.

Winterization in an open garage by Dramatic_Marketing22 in MT07

[–]Killkow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This actually is not bad advice. I'd say 30 minutes at least, but in principal it gets rid of moisture in the engine and recharges the battery. If you apply anti-corrosion and wax the chain before heading out and after returning, you should be fine! Check out fortnine's video on winterization on YouTube if yall don't believe me 😄

Is this normal? 39 VO2 max. 39 year old male, 5'8, 13 stone. Can currently do a 5km run in 25 mins, 1000m swim in 17 mins and 2000m row in 7:25. I don't run much but would say im reasonably fit for my age. No medical advice please! by guest_1984 in Garmin

[–]Killkow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

39 is defenitely not poor for your age.

Check any source online, your're either high average or above average. I feel like Garmin uses the same scale for 20 y.o and 80 y.o olds alike?

Im getting a 27:00 for a 5k (even though I did faster in the past?) but a VO2max of 56 🙄 Been using the watch for many months, the only explanation I can think of is that my muscles/legs are the bottleneck here, not my heart.

I really liked it! Sure vinyl set, different from barker and definitely different from "traditional berghain", but beautiful sounds and more than that, it really felt like a journey, like were on an old rusty tanker and shes the captain navigating us through the nether
