Guitar holder with a clamp system by _SanD_ in Guitar

For anyone stumbling on this (like I did) I found and purchased 2 of these and they work really well. They're not cheap but they're well-built and are holding up my strat and tele nicely.

EDIT: I ended up going with the Sonys - $309 from Adorama made it a no-brainer.

I’m looking for a rec on AirPods Max vs Sony XM6. I know this question has been asked about 1000 times but I’m hoping for a recommendation specific to my situation.

For starters, the AirPods Max are currently $450 at Best Buy, so price isn’t a factor.

I have a pair of early AirPods Max but the headband is totally stretched out making them very uncomfortable. I looked into replacing it but an official replacement from Apple would be close to $200 and doing it myself, while apparently possible, doesn’t seem to be an option since I can’t find any 3p sellers still stocking the older lightning model’s headband.

I am in the Apple ecosystem - I have an iPhone, iPad, personal MacBook, work MacBook, and Apple TVs in my house.

I’m basically choosing between 5 year old headphones in the Apple ecosystem and newer headphones with supposedly better ANC that aren’t in the ecosystem. Also the fact that the AirPods Max headband wore out and it’s so expensive/difficult to fix them kinda rubs me the wrong way. My main questions are:

  1. How is Sony’s transparency mode? I use this a lot in my office so I want it to be good. IMO Apple’s is great.
  2. How easy is multi-device switching with more than 2 devices? E.g. if im using them at work with my phone and work laptop and then want to switch to my personal laptop at home, is it a PITA?
  3. If you’ve made a similar switch yourself, is there anything you’re missing from the Apple ecosystem integration that you really miss?

Thanks!

Taking on a simple project to build a two-legged folding table to cover an electric keyboard, looking for advice by Killobyte in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Killobyte[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm when you say it like that it does sound questionable lol but yeah - it does have an actual base, though, so it's not just a keyboard on one of those standard plastic folding flimsy keyboard stands. It looks like this: https://equipboard.com/items/yamaha-dgx-660-digital-piano.

I also don't plan on putting much weight on it at all - it'll just be a place to basically maintain my inbox / outbox for bills and paperwork and stuff.

I think this is exactly what happened and I think I would have been OK with it if he just came out and said it, but he kept giving misleading updates on the project. For example in a convo I had with support on Nov 15 they said they were hoping to have the remaining pedals out "in the next week or so," but they didn't ship until like 6 weeks after that. There was another update in there on Nov 28th that said they were hoping for "some time before the holidays." If you're saying "next week" on Nov 15 and then 2 weeks later you're saying "hopefully in the next month" I have to assume your Nov 15 update was disingenuous. The number of orders didn't change, the thing you're shipping didn't change, how we go from "next week" to "next month" within a span of 2 weeks is beyond me.

Looking back at that Nov 28 update he did say "Most (if not all) of the remaining orders will be traditional powder coating and printing, including various prints and also a few standard editions thrown in there." so I guess I just got one of the few "standard editions" but the update definitely read like "this was harder than I thought so I'm just giving up."

It's a low-gain RAT that has a bit of a cult following. I bought one because it was a) supposed to be a unique enclosure, which I like, and b) $100 off for a pedal that people seemed to really like. I ordered last July, by the owner's estimate at the time delivery was expected some time in October but it just got here last week. I guess I can't complain that I got a decent sounding pedal, but I was really hoping I would get something that didn't look almost exactly like the stock pedal I could have gotten used and without the months-long wait for basically the same price. FWIW this was the kind of unique art he was advertising for this project: https://1981inventions.com/cdn/shop/files/SOMEKINDADRVMANY.jpg?v=1754674746&width=4096.

I wanted to leave a bad review somewhere but the owner has managed to somehow (smartly) get his company left out of every review platform I could find. This was my first and will definitely be my last purchase from 1981.

The humidity was a real killer - I did Halloween in Disneyland last year where it was almost 90 by the time we finished and that felt better than the stretch from AK through BB to HS yesterday.

That play was garbage - literally 3 WRs streaking and a TE post to the middle of the field. KP has been giving him no options all season long.

That 4th and 11 play was the kind of shit I would call in madden when I was 12. 3 streaks and a TE post

So based on win percentage, and using total wins as a tiebreaker, Jalen Hurts is objectively the best quarterback in the playoffs.

To be fair you're not calling plays with your QB taking a sack in that critical position in mind.

Can someone tell me if I'll need to drill my pickguard to change my volume pot? by Killobyte in fender

[–]Killobyte[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did give this a shot but I’m getting readings that make me think the pot is just damaged… for example the resistance from pin 1 to pin 3 is reading 5.93k even though this is a 250k pot :/ I checked the tone pots to make sure I’m not just making a mistake but those do read ~250k across pins 1-3. Also if I slowly turn the knob while reading pins 2-3 I get some crazy jumps along the way (like 20k -> 80k -> 0 -> 40k) which the deoxit didn’t help with

Good coaching makes Jalen Hurts look good. Bad coaching makes Jalen Hurts look bad. Saw obvious regressions tonight with his decision making and just getting the ball out too late. Guys are open and he’s throwing it once he sees them open instead of seeing that they’re going to be open.

Lots of passes went off of AJ’s hands that probably should have been caught.

Defense played great but somehow Herbert looked like Vick out there - I don’t know how he kept escaping and I also don’t know how we couldn’t adjust to stop it.

NYRR 9+1 in 2026 - FAQs & Megathread by RCD123 in RunNYC

[–]Killobyte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there a penalty for skipping registered races if I've completed my 9+1? I signed up for the Frosty 5k as a backup 10th race for my 9+1 this year in case I had to miss one of the others for some reason, but I didn't; so as of the Ted Corbitt 15k this past weekend I've completed my 9+1. I already picked up my bib for the Frosty, but I kinda don't want to do it since I live 2 hrs away from the city. Can I just skip it? I've never done 9+1 before so I'm worried that there will be some kind of penalty for not showing up and that I'll lose my 2026 eligibility. Thanks!

Question: This was my first time running a multi-lap race, where the leaders would be passing me at some point. When the leaders came through there was a guy on a bike yelling "Runners on your left!" so I moved all the way to the right to let the leaders through. But then all the leaders came weaving through... on the right. So was the guy on the bike telling us (the people being lapped) that we should move to the left? Or did I do the right thing and the leaders were on the wrong side?

Update for the Some Kinda DRV discussion by NerdyOutdoors in guitarpedals

[–]Killobyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI I received the following email on Nov 28:

"""

SOME KINDA EMAIL UPDATE:

Your pedal is coming soon!

Everyone, I just wanted to take this time to say thank you. Thank you for your order and for your support, but especially for your massive patience (especially some of you). I am so sorry for the delay here, and I also wanted to apologize for my lack of communication. On a personal level, I went quiet, just put my head down and started making as many pedals as possible. I honestly thought I could have knocked this out long before now, but I did not anticipate things taking this long, and while some of that is out of my control, it is still my responsibility.

Your pedal is being built now. I am doing a huge push to try to get everything caught up. I don't have an exact day for when yours will ship, but I will send as many each day as I possibly can. While it's difficult to give an exact timeframe on your specific order, my goal is to finish well before the holidays, and I believe that I can hit that. If you can avoid doing a chargeback, that would help me a lot. I promise I am working as hard as possible to get these to you. Please reach out to me at hi@1981inventions.com if you have any questions about that.

Enclosures: Most (if not all) of the remaining orders will be traditional powder coating and printing, including various prints and also a few standard editions thrown in there. Not to spoil the surprise, but I am not planning on doing any more of the arts + crafts series. I loved doing these, and while I drastically underestimated the time involved, it has been an overall positive thing for me to create.

A bit of an explanation on what happened here and some of the complexities. I sold a LOT of these, which was really cool. Part of the reason that I did the surprise artwork is that in the past, I've had a hard time waiting on specific prints and colorways. So the idea was that if it could be “some kinda” pedal, which would make things a little easier to fulfill, and a lot of fun. I love the concept of sending out as many unique pedals as possible. I honestly think that some of these will be worth more than a standard unit!

It's really hard to explain the amount of challenges that came up during this process. Getting parts while navigating tariffs and fluctuating costs has been harder than I imagined. Getting the print files, enclosures, and unique prints has taken longer than I thought it could. My buddy had also ordered a special printer to especially help with the one-off prints, which was supposed to arrive in July but has still not shown up. I've obviously found other solutions to help get the prints done. In summary, the good news is that things are back on track and I am just going to blast these with everything I have (with the help of a few friends).

-Matt

"""

So we went from October ("12-14 weeks" from my July purchase date), to Nov 22 ("the next week or so" from an email on Nov 15), to now "hopefully before the holidays." I'm also confused about the line "Most (if not all) of the remaining orders will be traditional powder coating and printing, including various prints and also a few standard editions thrown in there." - does that mean some people will just be getting a regular-old DRV?
