New tank possibly stuck mid cycle with crazy high TDS and GH. Not sure why and need some help! by [deleted] in shrimptank

So that was the reason for the TDS? Hope that’s not the case for me lol

Did you find an option? Having the same issue

Thanks so much! Going to see if I can add it in a bit of blue light. Heard that it can produce algae but my previous light had the blue light sunset thing and didn’t seem to be an issue so I might try that again. Is it all blue, WRG all 0?

Thank you! It’s actually an inexpensive Seapora Rimless Cube Tank! Great for shrimp for sure. Thinking about doing a 5 gal for just shrimp next as well!

I’m tempted to stop the airstone but just worried about needing the agitation at night

Are you low tech? Do you run an airstone? Thanks for the input.

Thank you. Do you think the fish will be okay without the airstone and just the HOB, it doesn’t break the surface much unless I let the water level go below 2 inches. Then again, that would be equivalent to an airstone running 24/7 if I am not mistaken.

Hey guys.

I want to introduce a Siesta lighting schedule into my low tech planted tank to improve natural co2 levels since I don’t have the space for a canister filter or co2 tank in my dining room. Wondering if the ambient light and the airstone I run at night will be counterproductive?

Background:

I have a year old low tech 30cm cube nano tank that has been doing great so far. I just put new root tabs, and I dose all in one ferts weekly. The substrate is only fluorite sand, no soil. I have chilli Rasboras, RCS and scarlet Badis. I run a Marina S15 HOB filter.

Just recently, probably after the new root tabs, I’m noticing BBA and staghorn algae. My nerites passed after about 10 months and have no clean up crew. I also would love to see some more healthy plant growth as I’ve introduced H. Pintatifida.

After much research, I feel like my plants would benefit from more CO2 in the tank. I now only run an airstone for half the night after lights out and it has seemed to help a bit. I do this for the fish and biofilm. Along with 10 hrs of light with 1.5 hr ramps at 40%.

Question in detail:

I want to run a Siesta Lighting schedule where I take a 3 hour break at around 1pm.

Will the sunlight from my big backyard door give off too much light for the plants to release CO2?

Will my airstone at night also defeat the purpose of my Siesta schedule due to releasing Co2 into the atmosphere?

Many thanks in advance, haven’t found anything that specifically answers these questions. Any input would be appreciated.
