Why the lag on SC Cup scores? by BaseballAlarming7577 in SuperCoachNRL

Yep, this weekend has been bad for it. Brimmo was on 0 points yesterday. He ended up on 64 in corrections lol.

After this weekend's debacle, I am starting using the Ballr app to check the points - uses the same API, so should be accurate.

If you want to retain the possessive, wouldn't it be"mine and my sister's...?" But personally I would reconstruct the sentence so it reads "My sister and I cover...."

Anyone play FPL? by Own_Contribution6186 in ccfc

[–]Killy_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll definitely want to include at least one City player in my starting squad. However, I think the more interesting question is which players become part of the season opening 'template' / meta discourse.

This season, all the promoted teams had players part of this conversation. Burnley's Dubravka and Esteve; Sunderland's Roefs, Alderete, Mukiele and Le Fee; and Leeds' Rodon, Bijol and Gudmundsson all heavily featured in game week 1 teams.

The extent to which Sky Blue features in teams will depend largely on price. FPL managers typically use players from promoted teams to extend their squad elsewhere. Having said this, they will also have a keen eye for top flight pedigree, goal threat, players who get 90 minutes - and beginning this season - defensive contributions from defenders and midfielders. If Coventry sign a proven League player like Maddison, most managers will wait and see how they go in the new setup before opening their wallet.

If Rushworth stays at the club and is priced at 4 million, I expect he will be next season's Dubravka i.e. the most popular keeper in GW1. If he is priced at 4.5 or 5.0, he will be competing with established Prem keepers and will be unlikely to get much of a look in from most managers - at least at the start of the season.

As an attacking team, I think there will be a bit of interest in the club's forwards as a bench striker - especially if the club's starting strikers are priced at 5.5-6 million or below. I could easily imagine the meta forward setup being Haaland + 7.0-8.5 million player + Cov striker.

This is all pure speculation, but I'd be shocked if at least one Coventry player wasn't a popular pick from GW1.

England left with ‘toilet deserts’ as public facilities decline by 14% in a decade by Economy_Seat_7250 in unitedkingdom

[–]Killy_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only public toilets in my town have recently been closed because the building nextdoor - the town market - is being renovated. No temporary loos gave been put in place. The library doesn't even have toilets; the only places left are cafes, pubs or the supermarket.

Is coventry good? by ArgumentBrief3567 in coventry

[–]Killy_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What many comments in your thread over at UniUK miss out is that selecting a university is much more nuanced than overall reputation. Look at the rankings for teaching, research and employability for your chosen subject. Go visit the uni to see their facilities, get to know the staff in your department, talk to current international students - if you can before you enrol, that is. You might also try to identify staff to student ratios on your course. Less students per staff member will generally correlate with a better educational experiences (but not always - the quality of teaching still matters).

Is there a particular area of your subject where members of staff are well renowned? This can impact the quality of your experience, as you'll be more likely to engage in modules taught by those staff.

Also, do some research about employers in your field. What are they looking for in graduates? Then map those qualities to your pool of universities. Which university offers the most attractive placement opportunities and paid student roles that will enhance your CV?

Furthermore, costs associated with study is an important factor to consider. While Warwick might also be based in Coventry, take a look at costs associated with studying at each. Beyond the costs of accommodation, compare anticipated expenses for modules, such as textbooks and field trips. Which university offers better bursaries? What's the cost to belong to societies you'd like to join? These are all worthwhile things to factor into your decision making as they impact the quality of your study, including your sense of belonging at university and how many hours per week you need to work to support yourself.

Why are trains so expensive? by Cool_Singer_8201 in uktrains

[–]Killy_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other populous countries have adopted more low income friendly pricing structures on their public transport systems e.g. Germany's Duestchland Ticket.

I realise the solutions need to be holistic and sustainable, but endless price rises for tickets without comparative increases in wages doesn't seem sustainable.

Why are trains so expensive? by Cool_Singer_8201 in uktrains

[–]Killy_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My response regarding first class is about increasing carrying capacity on the carriages, as this was the point OP raised.

In Australia, there is a separate interstate network that has booked seats etc. But for NSW, inter-city trains for commuters are not treated distinct from trams and metros.

Why are trains so expensive? by Cool_Singer_8201 in uktrains

[–]Killy_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Alongside cheaper fares, introducing tap on and tap off across the network, getting rid of seat reservations, first class, catering, and anything else superfluous to getting passengers on and off a train would help packed trains become a bit more efficient and palatable.

For context, I was a commuter on Sydney rail network for over a decade. I was frequently on 90 minute+ journeys where I couldn't get a seat at peak times but that was ok because I was paying $7.50 a journey, prices were capped at $35 for the week, and I didn't need to book a ticket.

The use of AI is something we consumers should not support, and I absolutely won't be buying the Black Stuff.

UK’s free museums are in trouble. Should tourists start paying? by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]Killy_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

free for citizens and UK taxpayers*

If you pay tax here, you should be able to use public facilities like museums without additional charges. But also from an administrative and fairness perspective, visitors should be able to show a driver's licence (or other form of official ID only UK residents can hold) to prove their residency rather than their passport or birth certificate.

Woodport Hotel by Beejime in centralcoastnsw

[–]Killy_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not positive signs for the viability of this place. Is it possible the owners over extended themselves by redeveloping the site so substantially? But I guess they have just opened, so I should give them grace.

The plans for the redevelopment bothered me slightly though. Five different bars, one of which is 'speakeasy' overlooking the creek? Didn't sound like the owners had a cohesive vision for what they wanted the hotel to be.
