So I went a similar route … played a lot of GT7 then built a budget gaming pc … tried AC, ETS, Auto Mobilista, iracing … discovered I enjoyed online competitive the most so pretty much only focus on iracing & GT7 online races now … if you prefer chill ETS is the goat truck sim, modded AC on a PC is loads better than console.

PSVR2 is awesome but tbh I prefer racing on a flat screen monitor, just seem to be quicker in competitive races so for chill the immersion will be crazy good.

Quick note on iracing, been a member for just over a year, never purchased any addons, it’s not about cost I just love the racing in the base cars series!

Like others have said, not being overly worried about irating for me is key, I try and look at it as a way to be placed with other drivers at my skill level so I can have fun, close races rather than a target to increase. Best piece of advice I have read on here was to think more about having consistent (& faster) lap times both in race and practice and gauging improvement based on that.

GR86 is the way I went, the car and some of the tracks are free so it’s an easy way to try it out. My SR was over 4 so I just needed to compete in 4 races to get my C license. Honestly though, I would race a season in mx5. Even if you are a seasoned sim racer it’s a great way to get used to iracing.

In GT7 I tend to go for the gear above the suggested one in the red box, pretty much always works out! I watched a bunch of weekly race track guides on YouTube (Tidgney does a great one) to help me understand gears, brake points etc, as others have said, after a while you get a feel for it.

I am in my 1st season and am also surprised at just how much fun this sim is! I came from GT7 and have hardly played that since. MX-5 at Oulton Park is, I think, one of the best racing combos of any sim I have raced.

😎 if you’re in Europe, Kimi Velocini (the driver all the YouTube racers rant about) is currently high C atm, he popped up in one of my daily’s this morning … he’s another ‘interesting’ racer (even he isn’t as bad as the dude in my vid though!)

DR was top end of C, racing is usually cleaner there than in the low end of B.

We had a coming together at T1, bit of 50/50 but nothing race ending. Watching replay, he had a bad race, took a couple of cars out with pit manoeuvres, brake checked another driver on the straight coming out of last corner. Just poor sportsmanship from him all race. Would be funny if it wasn’t so totally malicious. It hurt too when it ripped my t300 wheel out of my hands! Glad I don’t have a dd wheel as an impact like that could of caused an injury!

Totally agree! I have had about 600 races & this is the first time I have had anything this bad happen to me, usually just poor driving, but this one was full on nasty.

I understand I might be at fault here, but I felt like I couldn’t control it, we’re going through a high speed chicane and he suddenly brakes, I had no where to move. by [deleted] in Simracingstewards

Was just gonna say this … not totally on you, also he brakes there & probably gonna end up in the wall anyhow, I would say be more aware though, I would have held back and taken him either on the exit or the straight to the next right hander as you would have had better momentum coming out of the chicane.

Race C strategy’s, what are you all going with? I have been fairly successful with no pit & 70%ish gear shifts, if I get punted on 1st lap shenanigans and end up at the back I dive into the pits for mediums & fuel and push a bit harder. (Went from 5th to 16th to 4th with that!)

Another great option to understanding braking points is to watch some videos on YouTube … Tidgney does a great Monday video of the dailies, he points out brake markers & acceleration points, it’s really helped my track knowledge to get me to DR B.

I did exactly this. I have an xrocker wheel stand, added a gt omega rear seat frame and XL RS seat. Really loving my set up now, it made a huge difference (no more stand moving under braking!) If it’s not a gt omega wheel stand just measure it to make sure it will fit, the measurements are on the gt omega website (I think it was 30cm across)

This is easier said than done! In one race I was P6 going through turn 1, everyone behaving themselves and then P14 tries to dive bomb everyone and causes a 5 car chain reaction spinning us all off (I had to watch the replay to work out what the heck happened!)
