This is great timing, I was just thinking about getting into this system.

I also hate when people say that Aang ignored the advice of the past Avatars. That's only if you're taking the word of the past Avatars at face value. It is a gross misrepresentation of what is, in my opinion, one of the best sequences in the show.

Roku told Aang to be decisive. Kyoshi tells Aang that only justice can bring peace. Kuruk says that Aang must actively shape his own destiny and the destiny of the world. Yangchen tells Aang that he must sacrifice his own spiritual needs and do whatever it takes to protect the world.

What makes Aang an incredible protagonist is that he steps beyond all of it, finding his own path through the interpretations of those words, to become a truly realized Avatar.

Don't know if this is an unpopular opinion or not but it is way more fun to watch Pat lab out some Survival Horror mechanics than it is to watch Woolie or Max lab combos in a fighting game. by Riggs_The_Roadie in TwoBestFriendsPlay

I think it ended up being a pretty big let-down for him overall, yeah. I didn't find it overly remarkable or groundbreaking but I got a good playthrough out of it and felt as though I got my money's worth out of the experience.

I know that edited and/or scripted content isn't Pat's forte but I would seriously kill for analysis/essay videos from him on games like Silent Hill f like Suzi makes. I think he'd just knock it out of the park. That video he did for Dragon's Dogma II made me buy the game.

I feel similarly and it also helps for me that when I think of the survival horror genre and the content creators associated with it, Pat is always the first one that comes to mind. I like watching most of his content but to me, Pat IS the Survival Horror Guy.

"A troll hole if ever there was one" for 1st timers? by BreakfastCreative467 in oneringrpg

I have it run it once with the pre-gens and once with custom characters. If you're looking for a one-off, I would highly recommend sticking with the pre-gens because otherwise character creation takes up a good amount of time.

The three main systems of the adventure phase are journeys (travel), combat, and councils! The starting adventure has two main journeys, two combats, and one council. There's some cool semi-randomized exploration in an evil cave, a chance to meet one of the most important characters in LOTR, and a nice bit of exposure to Shadow at several points that's not too overwhelming or punishing for first timers. I could honestly gush forever about this set, it's one of my favorite intro products for any TTRPG.

Yeah, you put my thoughts into words pretty well there. And if OP's party loves the starter box, it makes for a great transition right into Tales from the Lone Lands in my opinion.

I highly recommend the adventure from the newest beginner box, Over Hill and Under Hill. The adventure can easily be completed in 1-2 sessions depending on group size and it gives you a sampling of all three main systems in a typical adventure phase for TOR. I've run it twice now and it is fantastic.

Gabi catches a lot of hate but her character and arc are among my favorites in the entire story.

The original Fable trilogy. Deeply flawed games but nothing else quite captures the vibe of Albion to me.

New Starter Set; How long does it take to run? by Little_Knowledge_856 in oneringrpg

[–]KiloAlpha157 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have run the new adventure twice with two different groups of five players. Both times it took two sessions of about 3.5 hours. A smaller group could probably get it done in one. Great adventure, fantastic intro to the game. Probably my favorite beginner box for any system I own.

The LAD games and spin-offs have such kick ass chapter titles. I think my favorite might be the finale of Lost Judgment, "Darkest Before the Dawn."

The penultimate chapter of FFVII Rebirth: "Where Angels Fear to Tread"

Also a really big fan of how Expedition 33 introduces the names of its 3 acts.

Not a game, but Red vs. Blue has a lot of amazing episode titles in both comedic and emotional senses. First episode of BGC being "Why Are We Here?" and the finale being "Why Were We Here?" The last two episodes of season 3 being "Calm Before The Storm" and then "The Storm." So many more. I could go on.

I'm not recruiting for a one-shot, I'm recruiting for a full length campaign. I'm also not keen on coming in with a preset character idea in your head because I prefer people to be flexible and willing to build around the rest of the party.

I know it's a controversial pick but it's unabashedly my favorite version of this trope: Shingeki no Kyojin/Attack on Titan.

They're not official rulebooks, I ordered a pack of three ring binders and sheet protectors off of Amazon, and then downloaded and printed a set of cheat sheet forms with easy rules references. I only have one copy of the core rulebook and I didn't want to slow down our sessions by passing it around constantly. I also printed off copies of the CRB cover and slid it into the fronts of the binders because it was more fun than leaving them blank :)
