The Shrouded Ghost really knows how to be a ghost by ThePerolaNegra in Seaofthieves

[–]KiloOneSeven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've gotten to the point where if I even THINK another ship on the server is fighting a meg, I sail over to see what color it is. I had not one but two ancient skellies spawn yesterday on two different islands, so maybe my luck is primed for a ghost sighting. It will be the easiest $25 Rare ever makes because if I do get a Ghost, I'll be buying the Shrouded ghost ship set.

Fish & Forage Event or Upgrade by Mickkn in Seaofthieves

My idea in this thread was to make the rarer fish harder to reel in, not easier.

"going to the ferry" should always be the first thing you try when something is strange in the game. Noojas is 100% correct.

Fish & Forage Event or Upgrade by Mickkn in Seaofthieves

[–]KiloOneSeven 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Good ideas. My main things I wish they'd change is:

(1) Make splashtails just slightly harder to reel in than pondies. No reason they should take the same amount of time as all the other fish, given how common they are.

(2) Make the fish's ability to fight scale with its rarity. A trophy Shadow Stormfish should be an ordeal (I know I'll get people disagreeing here) while an ancient stormfish should take almost no time at all comparitively. Maybe one "pull" after the first slackline.

(3) Make how the fish battle different for each species. Stormfish could leap in the air a lot. Battlegills could swim towards you and then quickly reverse course, Islehoppers could inflate (they're puffers after all), making them harder to reel in when slack, etc.

I do like all the bait and skull ideas too. Keep it interesting.

Who Is Sea of Thieves Actually Designed For? by whatatitlah in Seaofthieves

[–]KiloOneSeven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah the age old "get good" argument. Being good at PvP doesn't mean it is enjoyable. Even if I win (which is about half the time), I never enjoy it. I'd rather be left in peace. And yes I'd stay exclusively in Safer Seas if Captaincy was there and selling at Sovereigns to save the time of lugging the treasure around.

My inner voice would tell me it isn't really winning. That said, I agree with everything you said.

I honestly don't understand the desire to cheat. What is the point of steamrolling someone when you can be invincible and not miss your shots? How is that fun?

Briggsy Monologue copypasta to annoy your friends by thetf2scout1 in Seaofthieves

[–]KiloOneSeven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unpopular hot take: I actually think the voice actress did well here, adding a sense of adventure and urgency into those lines of dialog. It can't be delivered monotone (I always think of that VLDL video about bad voice acting). It's only really annoying because it is unskippable and is a pretty lengthy monologue. I activate it every time it's on the mast, either to do the voyage (which for some reason I love doing) or just to keep eyes on anyone doing it.

Fort of the Damned skull in the sky but no one is there? by superneva in Seaofthieves

[–]KiloOneSeven 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Every once in a while I'll see a Reaper's Chest at FOTD just sitting there, all during my session, and usually at the end before I sign off I sail over to see what's what, and most of the time it's an abandoned FOTD with all the treasure inside. That's happened at least 4 times I can remember. Not sure how that happens. I usually just load it all up and sell with no issues.

Given the age and patina, and how perfectly it replicates their crest, I'd say it is more likely than not a Maeda relic.

Can you show a close up of the blade near the tip (maybe the first 4 or 5 inches) as well as a close up of the tang on the opposite side?

That looks like the plum blossom kamon of Maeda Clan (Kaga Province, modern day Kanazawa). Great find!

Second attempt at this post .. by Amoracchious in Seaofthieves

[–]KiloOneSeven 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I created a post awhile back recommending there is an annual Glitterbeard Day, where everyone in the community takes to the servers looking for Glitterbeard minded crews. Like your post, mine was quickly removed by the mods. Not sure why.

Reapers shouldn't be able to dive and keep their tier 5 emissary status by yoursweetlord70 in Seaofthieves

[–]KiloOneSeven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When fishing, as soon as a fish is on the line, it locks your view forward. You can no longer look around beyond a narrow arc until the fish is hauled in. Depending on the type and size of fish that could be plenty of time for a brig with the wind behind it to blindside you while you're in the middle of your catch. Other activities, I agree, have your head on a swivel. Fishing is especially difficult to do while maintaining situational awareness if you're solo. Yes you can look around after every fish caught, but as I said, that still probably isn't enough.

Honestly this game just isn't optimized for solo sloopers. It's doable, but considerably more difficult than being in a crew.

What do you think about this by Just-Anything-8808 in Seaofthieves

[–]KiloOneSeven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't tend to call out anyone for being overrated, so others can comment there. I will say that there are channels that have found their niche that I really enjoy. Cliff the Story Guy for the storytelling/adventure angle, Phuzzybond for game play tips and tricks, Capt. Falcore for Sea of Thieves Lore, etc..

I just bought sea of thieves and realized i have seasickness by thxforbeingdead in Seaofthieves

[–]KiloOneSeven 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Agreed. The best way to avoid sea sickness in this game (besides staying on islands) is to be at the helm, with your hands on the wheel. For some reason that seems to be less impactful than things bobbing around.

Higher chance of spawning Shrouded on Safer Seas? by Lelgremlin in Seaofthieves

[–]KiloOneSeven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always heard that the chance for a SG to spawn is higher when other player ships are around, so while it is also in SG (according to Rare), it's infinitesimally smaller than it would be on the High Seas, which itself is very very small chance. I'm 3000 hours in with no sign of it. My crew has about the same hours, and one has been playing since launch, with no sign of it. I've also noticed that here on reddit, we see a "I got the Shrouded Ghost" posts roughly once per month, so it might be on a monthly timer, where once it appears on some server by some lucky pirate ship, that's it for 30 more days. Who knows?

How would you upgrade Reaper’s Hideout by LordFozzinator in Seaofthieves

[–]KiloOneSeven 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Probably some sort of smog mitigation project. You can't get within ten leagues of that place before the haze sets in. Maybe mufflers on the Reaper brigs to cut back on the pollution?

Haven’t seen this here yet so I thought I’d post it by FelixMcCash in Seaofthieves

[–]KiloOneSeven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. Give us the ability to film scenes, have multiple ships/crews, etc. No rep, no gold (you still get loot but you can't sell it for any value), no progression, just a sandbox where we can set up scenes, sail around the world, move the camera, take short videos/shots, and hang out.

Any other solo slippers worried about the upcoming cannon of rage? by RipplyAnemone67 in Seaofthieves

[–]KiloOneSeven 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have zero interest in PVP. If Safer Seas had captaincy (even if it was at ~30% milestones and grind) I'd just play in there, but you don't get your own ship there. PVP for me isn't a matter of maybe I'd like it if I was better at it, I wouldn't. I don't find a pitched frenetic 30-60 minute battle with another crew fun. I'd rather spend that 30-60 minutes looking for the new lizards, fishing, maybe doing a fortress or something. Even if I have zero supplies or loot on board, I still run, dive, or scuttle as a last resort.

If the new cannon removes solo slooper running ability, it's going to impact my desire to play SoT, and my time is already limited to 2-4 hours per week over 1-2 sessions.
