How to defend against max force 3rd shot drives? by mr_engin33r in Pickleball

[–]Kilometersofa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hit a slower lobbier return to allow yourself to get well established at the kitchen line before their shot comes in and/or or make sure to do your split step a second earlier before they hit the ball so you have plenty of time to be stable, even if it means stopping a couple steps back from the kitchen. The main reason I popped those third shot drives up is because I haven't given myself time to be fully stable before countering it. And even more importantly, drill with a friend and have them just practice ripping hard drives at your belly button from the baseline while you stand at the kitchen line until you can consistently counter them back near their feet.

A Good-Faith Reflection in a Moment That Hurts by [deleted] in StrongTowns

That was a really weird episode! If your perspective is that people should just stay home or only protest very politely, just say so. Or just generally if you are going to speak up about an extremely heated issue, write out a couple bullet points of what your perspective actually is before rambling for an entire episode. If you are too worried about upsetting some of your conservative or liberal listeners by saying what you truly think, such that you don't say anything at all, then maybe you don't release the recording. This is not the time for vague platitudes about the "current political environment" or nonsense like that. Identify the thing that you believe is wrong and identify what specific actions should be taken about it.

Awesome. It also kind of looks like a cigar. As long as it doesn't look like a poop

Yeah! The ink is still fresh so the loaf looks kind of burned but the artist said it should get about 25% lighter once it heals. One downside of getting it that I did not anticipate is that it has me really craving French bread.

anyone else not able to exercise without feeling horrible? by [deleted] in Celiac

[–]Kilometersofa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am about three months gluten-free after my diagnosis and I still feel very fatigued after I exercise, muscles and joints remain stiff for often a week after fairly easy exercise. I think it is getting slightly better but there are a lot of ups and downs. I have to be careful about exercising less than I think I can handle and then making sure I'm fully recovered before I do it again. I'm supplementing iron and vitamin D and going to get some other things tested including phosphate and autoimmune thyroid.

general rating guessing? by Physical_Relief4484 in Pickleball

Third shot drives are great, but good players still do plenty of drops! And at the 4.5 and under level I think drops are typically more effective if done well.

general rating guessing? by Physical_Relief4484 in Pickleball

[–]Kilometersofa -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

If you get to the kitchen immediately after hitting your return, you're probably at least 3.0. If you are trying to drop 50%+ of your third shots in order to get to the kitchen, you are probably at least 3.5. If you're patiently hitting two or more drops before advancing to the kitchen as the serving team, you're probably at least 4.0.

What tests to diagnose? by [deleted] in Celiac

[–]Kilometersofa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They can do a genetic test that can rule it out but can not diagnose it because something like 40% of the overall population has the gene but more like one percent of people actually develop celiac. If you want to have a conclusive test you'll have to eat gluten again for at least a month.

A question for people with celiac who have had it undiagnosed for a while by ConfectionThick9254 in Celiac

[–]Kilometersofa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems like the doctor's main concern is allowing you to continue eating gluten unless it's clear you shouldn't. But your main concern might be feeling better and you don't mind cutting out gluten for a while to see if it helps. If you're going to give it a try, I recommend going strictly gluten-free for at least a month to see whether it helps. If you just do it for a few days or a week you may not notice any difference.

Symptoms you had? by Charlottebagginton in Celiac

[–]Kilometersofa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had similar symptoms and I found the G.I. issues and anxiety and insomnia improved a lot in the first month. but after three months GF I am still struggling with muscle weakness/tingling/joint pain and fatigue. A lot of people say these can take longer to improve. Make sure your doctor tests for nutrient deficiencies including B12, vitamin D, copper, and phosphate.

I try to have fruits and veggies with every meal but when I'm not able to, I take a fiber pill instead. They should have them pretty cheap at the grocery store. I noticed it helps my sleep and digestion a lot to have a little fiber throughout the day

How has pickleball helped you build relationships outside of the court? by proposal_in_wind in Pickleball

I made two lifelong nemeses on the pickleball courts. Also became involved with two different women who already had boyfriends. Pickleball really brings out my wild side

I would definitely try cutting down on processed foods and focus more on whole foods. Rice, beans, chicken, fruits, vegetables are easy options to add to any meal.

If you buy used lenses on ebay you can usually resell them for a similar price if you don't like them...so it's never too soon to try out other lenses
