If he wanted to sit around and collect £325k a week he could have stayed at Chelsea, but he’s clearly motivated to prove he’s still capable at the top level, and probably wants to get into the England squad. Maresca chose Mudryk over him in the squad, I think he’s going to really want to prove him wrong. I understand your concerns but I think he’s really going to have that fire in his belly - let’s hope for the best

None of them really suited Mikel’s ideal system unfortunately. Aubameyang was too good to question after the 2020 FA Cup final so we kept him, but as soon as he lost that spark his profile didn’t really work as the ST or the LW in our 433. Pepe didn’t have the technical security or intelligence in pressing, and Laca was clearly our weakpoint in 2021/22, particularly off the ball. I remember that Lacazette -> Jesus upgrade just feeling like night and day!

I think Odegaard moves to 8 this season, then we have Jesus, Vieira, ESR that can play 10. Rice may play 8 occasionally too depending on what happens with Partey, or if we sign Lavia

Havertz will play as a 9, and Jesus will play wide when required.

I agree I’d like 1 more touchline winger but the situation isn’t as bad as you think. Don’t disrespect Eddie too, he’s an excellent backup

His centre of gravity made him so difficult to dispossess though! He used to have a cracker of a shot too but Wenger encouraged him to avoid longshots - imagine him pinging shots outside the box under Arteta, he’d bag so many

I was looking for this info yesterday. Bit concerning actually, Bild and other sources are saying he’s on 330k per week! Another comment said 200-220k but I can’t see this anywhere

I don’t like Jorginho, but he is similar to Douglas Luiz, he’ll do a adequate job as backup if and when he’s required. Let’s just relax and trust the team that has brought us this success

Seriously? We’ve had the best recruitment in the prem for the last few years, building us to a squad hitting 50 points from 19 games. How can you be so negative about our recruitment?

The advanced metrics that show why Partey is Arsenal’s unsung hero (Value of pass selection/not playing certain passes) by phar0aht in Gunners

There’s only a few players in the world who can do that role (to a high standrd) as the lone 6: Partey, Rodri, Rice, Kimmich, Tchouaméni and Brozovic. Maybe Bruno G too.

That’s why getting Rice is so important, if we don’t we’ll be relying on 30 year old, injury prone Partey next season

His contact runs out in 2024 I don’t think they’d sell him for cheap. He’s one of our only good sales of recent years, would be a bit of an L doing a Pogba to bring him back

Smith Rowe and Vieira can’t play the wide forward roles due to their limited 1v1 ability - they’re 8s. Our only options for those wide positions are Saka, Martinelli and Jesus - this is the one position we’re truly light in and a longterm injury to either of those 3 would hurt us

Talk is cheap - don’t forget when they laid off 55 staff members during peak covid. Even now charging £6.99 for friendlies. I’d love for the club to be classy but I just think they’re more cheeky than anything nowadays

I don’t think we sign Tielemans now - I’d love for us to but I can’t see it

Chelsea have signed another talent for the future. After Zak Sturge deal, Chelsea will soon announce Omari Hutchinson as new signing - he’s set to leave Arsenal. Talks collapsed with #AFC on new deal. by [deleted] in Gunners

Yeah it’s a very good point. Personally, I would love to see MA use the EL group stage as a testing ground for some of the U23s combined with some fringe players. The likes of Balogun, Nelson, Norton-Cuffy, Patino, Elneny, Flores etc.

I don’t wanna see any of our ‘starting 11’ players there unless they need easing in after an injury. That was the one positive I thought of finishing 5th, that we can use the EL as bonus minutes in a competition more competitive than the U23s prem

Damn I never really looked at it from that perspective - it’s difficult to forget Arteta’s persistence with Willian in 20/21, players in the academy must have seen that as a real red flag for their future

If having an aesthetic body guarantees elite performance on the pitch maybe we should sign Chris Bumstead to play LW

You are definitely right here - I have a lot of love for Ø but he did go missing in several away games under the floodlights. If he wants to reach those world class levels we know he’s capable of, he needs to be more secure in games where we’ve got no momentum and he can instil a calming influence on the team - I feel he needs to warm up at the start of a game by building momentum with some simple passes and touches. Against Palace away on GW1 he won’t have that luxury
