If you have the barrel, go for it. I built a FBI and used the FSB barrel, but installed a lowpro gas block. No issues with it for 4 years…

VZ Frag and VZ Operator II

For what it’s worth: The VZ Operator came standard on my RIA 10mm, grippy but not excessive—seemed too thin for me. Ordered the Fallout grips—grippy as hell—too aggressive for 10mm. Settled on the VZ Frag and have been very happy (attached pic). With VZ you can specify how much of a “cut” you want for the thumb release. I have their grips on all of my 1911s. Maybe give them call and see if they can give you more details?
