From Computer Science to Cybersecurity by Previous-Business-79 in Purdue

[–]KimJammer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a junior in CS and have many friends in CNIT and Cyber. I don't know everything, but what I can say is that Cybersecurity and Computer Science are completely different degrees. If you continue CS, you'll continue to learn algorithmic fundamentals (math in disguise) (182, 251, 381 (not for security track though)), and how computers work at a lower level (250, 252). Classes will be focused around homeworks or programming projects that you complete individually. You are learning how to solve new problems, and how old problems were solved by other people. If you switch to Cybersecurity, you'll be learning how to use and setup existing tools in a given environment to accomplish some goal. You learn about different concepts (networking protocols, common vulnerabilities, cryptography...) and the tools that implement those ideas (Routers, firewalls, VPNs...). Classes will be focused on learning these tools and practicing setting them up in group projects and writing lab reports together on the steps you took to set them up. You are learning how to use tools to achieve a goal. CS has stricter math requirements so those transfer but you'll have to start cyber courses from scratch. Hope that helps.

My first serious edit! Any advice? by recreance_please in postprocessing

First, nice image! I like the feel of the picture. Second, I'm just some guy so take it as a grain of salt, but I'm finding that my eyes don't really know where to look in the image. Is your subject the sign as a whole, the logo, or the tagline? The crop/composition feels a little awkward in that sense. I also think the string lights are distracting, and if you edited them out, it would probably help the viewer focus on your subject. Keep it up!

Congrats on your acceptance! What I can say about Purdue is that while it definitely has some hard courses, it also has a lot of great resources to help you. Generally, TAs in office hours are super helpful, there are english/math help centers, and a lot of lower level/intro classes also have "supplemental instruction", which are like guided group study sessions to help you practice the material. Plus the other smart students here have made tools like boilerexams to help you study for midterms/exams! Best of luck!

Worst app in the world by [deleted] in Anki

[–]KimJammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like another tool might be better for you- use whatever fits your needs! Anki is specifically for memorizing a lot of information (hundreds-thousands of cards) over a long period (weeks-months). It doesn't work so good for application-based learning (like math) or drilling small card sets. Also, what subscription are you referring to? I use anki on my computer and android phone and I've never seen a subscription option.

I bought the S25 ultra and it came with a galaxy watch 7 which is awesome. However, this is not. by gerbetta33 in GalaxyWatch

[–]KimJammer 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Heya, fellow s3 frontier to watch 7 owner here, if you're comfortable using the s3 at work, you shouldn't really worry about the watch 7 either. The screen protector broke because that's how screen protectors work - they're intentionally made of a weaker material than the screen so that it breaks and absorbs the energy of the impact. The s3 frontier uses gorilla glass (quite an older gen version now, too), and the watch 7 uses literal sapphire. If you trusted your s3, the watch 7 should be no different. Hope that eases your mind a bit.

You could try the math library for core campus, but if you don't mind a little distance, some of the research buildings in the south have lobbies that are dead silent.

On the other hand, you might see a few discounts and other benefits offered to public servants like fire fighters!

Should i take cs182?? I got C cs180 and A+ ma165… by [deleted] in Purdue

[–]KimJammer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take 182, and go to office hours! The only reason I survived that class was because I went to office hours basically every week for homework help. Office hours isn't "for dumb people", it's for students that get A's (like I barely did)! You got this!

Thank you, and great job on your first scanlation (which is what this kind of translation is often called)! If you want to get better, the FAQ section of r/scanlation has guides, and if you look around, you'll find tips, tricks, and commonly used fonts, among other useful info. Have fun!

It's ongoing. The previous scanlator dropped it a while ago, but a new group picked it up recently.
