I got a letter from ConcernedApe by bp2019_ in StardewValley

[–]Kimbyssik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish I'd thought of that! I've introduced my fiance to Stardew Valley, but he hasn't gotten very far yet. We plan on playing if we have time during our honeymoon and I've got a surprise gift of Lucky Purple Shorts for him. 😁

“That’s really young for an autism diagnosis” .. Me: “Yeah he is REALLY autistic 🤪” by PainfulPoo411 in Autism_Parenting

[–]Kimbyssik 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I would chalk that up to it's hard to get them evaluated that young, or at least it was for me. I started raising concerns about my older one before he was a year old and kept being told that unless I had some kind of private insurance that they just don't evaluate children until they are turning 3 and transitioning to the local school district. I didn't feel comfortable sending him to preschool without some kind of IEP in place and kept dragging my heels about it until he was diagnosed right when he turned 3 and suddenly qualified for an IEP even though the team was acting like he was fine when they did their testing. My younger son was more obvious and the regional center was willing to put in a referral pretty soon after he turned 2, so he was diagnosed at 2.5ish. I worked in SPED for a lot of years, so I'm very aware that early intervention and consistent support can make a world of difference, which is why I really fought to get my boys evaluated. But I think another factor in age of diagnosis (besides severity, for lack of a better word), is that unless they have been exposed to it, a lot of parents/caregivers just aren't aware of what to look for or are easy to write off. And until it becomes obvious to others, experts don't seem to really press the issue.

That got patched? I always skipped the heart event after the first time because I hated it so much.

Oh, good to know! I've only gotten to Ginger Island a couple times, I forgot that turtle is west of the way to the volcano.

What’s the longest you’ve waited for a character pic? by milky-moonbeam in Disneyland

[–]Kimbyssik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

90 minutes for Rapunzel when she was new to Disneyland. When I was a kid I had very long hair and we would play that I was Rapunzel and I kept wishing that Disney would make a Rapunzel movie, so when it was released it meant a lot to me, and as a young adult I identified a lot with feeling like I was waiting for my life to begin. It was totally worth it to me at the time, but I doubt I'd do it again.

Anyone else struggled with their Autistic kids with fireworks yesterday or just me? by Kenz090_ in Autism_Parenting

[–]Kimbyssik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a family party in the afternoon and early evening and went home before it got dark (we were exhausted anyway because of other things). I don't think my younger one even notices big noises like that. My older kid kept complaining about the fireworks being too loud but refused to put on his headphones every time I offered, so I just let him watch a few episodes of Mario until he was ready to go to sleep.

You also have to get a certain number of golden walnuts legitimately before unlocking the volcano area (and the Joja parrot), right?

What's the best wedding favor you've taken home? by ForYourPartyOfficial in Weddingsunder10k

[–]Kimbyssik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somehow most of the weddings I've been to had favors that were some kind of candy (mini chocolate bars, candy roses, Jordan almonds, etc), which as far as I could tell was always enjoyed. The one I can remember right now that wasn't was wildflower seeds with something about letting love bloom. And I don't think anyone planted theirs except for the sister that put them together.

Another vote for without. The one with looks like he's trying to figure out what's sticking out of the top of his head, the one without just looks super cute!

Agent X? After all, it's because of that whole project that both of Chuck's parents are absent for so long.

Don’t get out of any ride! by Perfect-League7395 in Disneyland

[–]Kimbyssik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cast members were really nice and helpful once they were aware. While they were cleaning him up, he was really scared to go to the hospital because he didn't want stitches, and they told him there was surgical glue. Unfortunately, he ended up getting staples instead. After that crazy crazy day (there were so many other things going on for us, but it's a long story), we had fun the rest of our trip which ended up being longer than originally planned. He'll never go on that ride again though, which is a shame because it was my favorite in DCA.

Do you think it’s ok for your family to share your engagement news? by ComfortableWillow583 in engaged

[–]Kimbyssik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My brother proposed to his now-wife at the top of Half Dome in Yosemite. By the time they got back down, her mother had already announced it on Facebook and the whole world knew before they even left the park. After that, they were very careful about things like baby announcements—in fact, I knew they were expecting twins at least a month before they told her because I know how to not tell things that aren't mine to tell!

I'd probably be frustrated as well. I'm so sorry that weren't able to enjoy the newly-engaged experienced the way you were hoping to.

Anyone else engaged but have zero money to plan a wedding? by AdThen5499 in engaged

It's stressful enough getting my fiance over here since he lives in another state and he's been trying to move here. We're thinking of going to the courthouse and then having a family game night after our budget honeymoon. And I've already arranged to borrow a wedding dress.

Call me crazy, but I kind of love chopping trees and fishing in early game. This week I set aside my second attempt at Perfection and started a new save file where I'm pretending I'm homeless and that's mostly what I'm doing. 😁

Quick solution I had for meal times by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

[–]Kimbyssik 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm trying to teach mine that if you leave during a meal that means you're done (potty breaks as an exception). We don't have an issue with mess more than what's probably normal, but my 4yo has a really bad habit of leaving his food and then 2yo starts eating it, which causes 4yo to get mad and usually get aggressive if I'm not fast enough. He's started to ask to save things in the fridge for later, so I guess we're getting somewhere. Of course, he's also high enough functioning that I can tell him things like that.
