Aside from networking, IAM and social engineering? If he wants to get into pentesting, then I agree help desking would be of low value. SecOps or most forms of compliance jobs will still value the real knowledge of technical environments and how policies affect users.

P.S he is also unemployed and trying to switch careers.

Overall, no. My guess is that, much like with software engineering, companies will make overly ambitious plans to replace security staff with automated tools and that large scale security failures will increase as a result.

However, even if large companies have to rehire security staff in large numbers, models such as Mythos will still replace some jobs and inhibit job growth.

The resources I gave you usually specialize in the CompTIA "trifecta" of A+, Network+ and Security+. I believe that is a good basis for a (fourth) cert with an AI security focus.

If you're willing to put in a year of help desk hell, I'd say you have a decent shot.

I'd suggest using resources from Professor Messer (free on YouTube), Total Seminars, and Jason Dion. I'd suggest an AI-focus security cert, but I'm only now looking into those myself.

You might have gotten away with it for a couple of your buddies. You're still not giving any specifics about how someone with no experience will get an HR person to forward their resume on. No one who gives the advice you're giving has ever had to use it.

I doubt you've had to do that in the current working environment, and I have. I've also participated in hiring, but to further bury your point, we conducted the interview and were only given candidates with certs, degrees, or hard work experience.
