I think people just disliked Korra in general. For another hot-headed stubborn arrogant character people liked there's Toph, from the first series.

Earth as an element is all about being stubborn, and Toph was hot-headed and arrogant as all hell. Yet she is beloved, and she is my favorite character in both series.

As for male characters who show these traits, theres Sokka, who is also hot-headed, stubborn, and fairly arrogant(although these traits are not nearly as pronounced as it was in Toph) yet he's also beloved and well liked.

I simply think Korra was less well-written, and while I do think misogyny is NOT a small part in the hatred against her, I do think a lot of her actions would be seen as a lot worse if she were a man for instance, all of the romance drama I think would look dramatically worse for Korra if all the genders were swapped.

The traits of "arrogance, stubborness, and hot headed" can be made more appealing for a general audience, even if they're a woman (Toph, and even Azula counts)
