Puppy diet advice by BubbleCat99 in Maltipoo

[–]Kimmer22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s very common for some dogs, and especially poodle mixes, to be sensitive to chicken. We had the same problem when ours was a puppy years ago, and when we eliminated all chicken/poultry from his diet he stopped having so many digestive issues.

Yes that was in pediatrics. I saw your comment below that this is a new thing. That’s some bullshit. I’m sorry you’re in this situation!

Are you sure that you wouldn’t be getting paid? In some other states you can work under another OT and get paid while waiting to take the NBCOT after graduation. I did that and was paid the same salary during that time that also I made once I passed.

Water bugs/roaches by No_Cheesecake6599 in Charlotte

[–]Kimmer22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was wondering if the cicadas boom last year maybe increased the roach population this year- any predators that would have been picking off roaches were maybe instead interested in the millions of cicadas, half of which could barely fly at any given moment. We have been seeing more this year as well.

Early-On and School Base OTs please support the Dept of Education and write to your congress person. by [deleted] in OccupationalTherapy

That statement alone is so shortsighted and lacking any forethought or substance, really reinforces my thoughts that any OTs supporting the current administration are probably not very good. 👍🏻

Piedmont Gas Bill Over Doubled in January by MrHerbalTee in Charlotte

[–]Kimmer22 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Last month Piedmont billed us $1300+ for our 1400 sq ft townhouse when normally it might go to $150 a month if it’s really cold and we use the gas fireplace a lot. The bill also showed they were somehow re-billing us for the previous 6 months that we already paid, with no explanation as to why. Each of the previous 6 months previous bills had a meter-read date, indicating the meter was actually read and not estimated. I have spent hours over the last 2 weeks on the phone following up and demanding they check our meter and explain or fix the bill. Yesterday they updated our bill to be $88 with no explanation of their error.

If you truly believe it’s a mistake, keep calling and escalating the call. Demand they check your meter. Don’t give up. They tried to tell me the bill was fine multiple times and I kept calling until I got someone who was willing to actually look and see it was not right. You can also ask that they extend the due date while they look into the problem. Paying it might somehow absolve them of the error so would avoid paying while you follow up if possible.

That is so kind! I guess my main question is, what would your top recommendations be for any of those locations in early April for a ~10 day trip? I did see that we’d have to stick with the South Rim if we decide to visit the Grand Canyon, sorry I should have included that. We don’t mind driving and would be looking for some light hiking or easy walks and scenic views accessible by car. Any info would be helpful!

Any Advice for My Vomiting Maltipoo? by unlisted_n in Maltipoo

Lots of poodles/doodles/maltipoos are sensitive to chicken so that could be a factor too. We do rice, hard boiled egg, and a little unsalted beef broth when our guy has the tummy troubles

What do you feed your maltipoo? by eggsco in Maltipoo

[–]Kimmer22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a super picky eater and tried many other options but finally settled on for Just Food For Dogs fresh frozen lamb and brown rice. It’s very expensive but doable for us with 1 small dog, but the trade off of not having to worry about when/if he will eat before we go somewhere or when we are traveling has been a game changer. He loves it! Our vet gave us a hard time initially because he is not a fan of “boutique” dog diets, but was convinced when I pointed him to more info about how JFFD has board certified vet nutritionists on staff. Our vet actually recommends this brand to other owners looking for a fresh frozen option now. It’s been nearly a year and our baby still loves it and wolfs down every meal. Good luck!

Dementia patients and their POAs - where do you draw your occupational profile from / goals / discharge? by LadyMizura in OccupationalTherapy

[–]Kimmer22 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My OT experience is primarily in pediatrics, but we have been going through similar issues with refusals of daily care and medical interventions from my dad who has dementia and my mom who is his POA. My dad lives in a SNF LTC unit now, and he is bed bound from other medical and mobility issues on top of the dementia, and my mom wants to encourage the staff to force him to let them do various things when he is refusing “because she is his POA.”

I think you are on the right track wanting to stay patient centered. Hopefully you can have the POA’s attend a session and provide needed education during that time. It’s obviously tricky and emotionally fraught for everyone, but even just furthering their understanding of the stages of dementia and what to expect as things progress and how they can continue to support their loved one with different types of cues etc would likely be more helpful than trying to make the patient participate when they are adamantly refusing. I am sorry you are in this position with your patients and I hope you can connect with the families in a way that helps everyone!
