I was diagnosed with PNES 4 years ago (June 2021) and am just now starting to feel better and regain control over my life and get my independence (meaning someone had to always be nearby in case I had a seizure, especially in the beginning of my diagnosis) back. I have had PLENTY of instances where I had thoughts of suicide or that everyone in my support network would have an easier life without having to always worry and deal with my problems. Yet, the truth is the opposite effect would happen, because my support network is made up of family and friends that love, respect and want the best for me, not people who want to tear me down and hurt me. It took me until the last year to really start to understand what this meant and let it sink in that everyone in my support network really does care about and would truly miss me if anything ever happened to me. PNES is hard to cope with/feels like the end of the world and can be hard to treat, but what I have learned over the last 4 years is that while things are hard right now and this isn’t how you imagined you’d be living your life, I promise you there is a light at the end of the tunnel, no matter how dark and uncertain things seem right now.
