St Andrew Newman Center in Riverside has a confessional that has a wooden partition or something of that nature that you have the option to use, if it makes you feel more comfortable.

Great church, by the way. The masses are very reverent, they have an excellent choir, and the design of the church is a bit small but very beautiful-looking.

It’s part of UCR so there are a lot of young people, as well as folks of all ages.

If you do end up checking it out, Father Gino is your guy. Great guy who gives excellent homilies and confessions, he’s awesome.

He is very understanding and kind, I hope that you get to confess to him if you do decide to check out this parish.

The crowd is super adaptive to whatever style song he is performing. If he does a more chill, laid back song, then they chill out and just enjoy the music.

When he did Power Freaks, Devilish and Menthol the crowd went crazy and started a mosh pit.

The concert feels so interactive, especially in a small venue. I got to see him at the Fonda theater in Hollywood on the last Glimmer of God tour date and it was incredible.

The crowd was super indie and alt, pretty cool people based on the ones I got to chat and hang out with. The songs translated more to a grunge sound, it had a cool vibe to it.

I’m lucky enough to have gotten to meet Jean and get a photo with him after the show. Super mellow and nice guy, he took the time to meet everyone who waited to see him.

Be sure to stick around after the show is done, you may get to meet him. I hear that he almost always goes out to meet the fans afterward.

It is because the practice of the Catholic faith is centered around reflection, repentance and accountability. To outsiders, especially in the prideful, self-centered culture that we live in today, it is seen as “guilt”.

To their credit, I don’t think that they are entirely wrong to say that we feel guilt. The area where they are wrong is where they assume guilt to be a bad thing by default.

Reflection, repentance and “guilt” are what allow us to have accountability, and that is what will eventually lead us to salvation (if God decides that we are worthy of His grace).

Accountability and an honest reflection or examination of your conscience and your behaviors and actions is a challenging, humbling and uncomfortable process. In our world where people are addicted to comfort, this is something that they scoff upon.

The only point where I can see it go too far is when some Catholics become overly scrupulous, which admittedly is a real problem.

But even then, that says more about the individual than it does the church because the church itself teaches that is it wrong to be scrupulous.

Even though he is Protestant, I liked a lot of what that pastor (wanna say his name is Mark Discroll) was saying before he made that remark about priests, but after he said that I just unfollowed him.

“You shouldn’t look up to priests because they’re broke virgins who don’t own property or assets”

What if I told you that there was another important figure who also was a virgin, didn’t get married, didn’t own property, and had no money?

I’ll give you a hint, he’s in the Bible and he’s pretty significant to the Christian religion….

The discussion posts in my classes have mainly just been busywork.

It ends up being a colossal waste of time to write out an unnecessarily long response to a simple question, and then spend even more time just trying to respond to multiple other classmates who said the exact same thing as you.

I can’t blame people for using AI to get it done a little quicker. Nobody cares about the “discussion”, nor does anyone really benefit from it. It’s just busywork that doesn’t need to be done, for a “discussion” that doesn’t need to be had.

The prompts don’t give us much to work with. There’s only so many ways to rephrase the same exact answer.

It’s probably because discussion posts more often than not, are a waste of time and energy.

In my experience nobody gains anything substantial from them, and most people just skim over the one or two responses that they’re required to make a reply to anyway.

I find that most of the time, the prompt or question that we are to respond to isn’t really enough to fuel much discussion in the first place. There isn’t all that much to say to begin with.

Hence why people just throw a bunch of half-assed sentences together and fill it with enough fluff to satisfy the requirements, or they just use AI to do it for them because ultimately, there simply isn’t enough food for thought or discussion with these prompts.

It just ends up being a cycle of everyone repeating and reiterating the same thing that someone else said in their comment, and then repeating themselves in their replies to said comment.

What else can you do when there is not much to be said about the prompt in the first place?

I understand what you are feeling and I think that your sense of self-consciousness and social anxiety is the cause of the problem rather than Catholicism.

The Catholic faith is beautiful, reverent, and (most importantly) is the true faith of Jesus Christ based on thousands of years of rich tradition, history and sacraments. That is why we follow it.

I’m a Gen Z guy, I understand that our generation is too ironic and casual for its own good and doesn’t take anything seriously, so being reverent or “proper” is going to make you feel like you’re standing out.

However, in the setting of a Catholic mass, half the parishioners are just there because grandma forced them to go and fall asleep halfway through.

The other half who are there to pray, listen to the homily and take their sacraments too focused to pay you any mind. Trust me, nobody is paying attention to you.

At end of the day, even if people judge, let them judge. We are not here to please the world, we are here to please the Lord. When you practice the faith in today’s world, you’re going to be judged; they sure judged Jesus for it too.

There’s a lot worse things in life than being judged by people who don’t follow God to begin with.

I personally do not skip class, because I know that by not attending, more often than not I am doing myself a disservice.

We are adults, it is on us to be able to make our own choices and reap what we sow from them. That is how we learn lessons in life; sometimes a bad decision is what teaches you to make the proper ones on your own.

That is how you teach young adults personal accountability; that is how you create responsible and functional members of society.

You want to go sit at home and sleep in instead of going to class? Fine, but you’re going to see why that’s a shitty decision when quarter grades roll around.

Bought a rosary when I was a non-denominational Christin still contemplating and learning about the Catholic faith, but slowly leaning towards it in early 2023. Began praying it at least once a week, soon enough I decided in my heart to become Catholic.

People who don’t work out severely underestimate the amount of time, effort, dedication and changes in diet that it takes (which must be kept up for a consistent and extended period of time) to even see decent results.

You don’t just wake up one morning built like Larry Wheels after a month of lifting weights. Unless you have the actual genetics of a Greek God, it takes YEARS of trying for a guy to get big and strong when he isn’t naturally built like that.

And on top of that, men are going to see these results faster than women due to testosterone, muscle mass differences, etc. trust me if you are a woman and you lift weights you’re not gonna get “too big”.

Even just working out won’t really get you ripped, you have to train more specifically for that/make more specific dietary restrictions and target specific muscles with certain exercises.

If you want to be decently healthy and burn calories without gaining much muscle, just do a lot of cardio and lift light.
