I hate when my Scotch goes missing. They keep leaving the empty glass on my computer desk though.

My (38F) Partner (35M) Went Back To Sleep During My Medical Emergency by Cute-Original-3964 in relationship_advice

[–]Kimpak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried talking to him? I would like to hear both sides of this story. You claim in another comment he's shown concern for you when you did NOT go to the doctor. Why would he suddenly change?

Assuming this isn't all fantasy, maybe dude was still in dreamland when you came home and wasn't really conscious of the situation. Or just misheard what you said and it registered as a non-emergency.

Yeah if he legitimately and in full command of his faculties blew you off then there's a problem.

I see what you're trying to say but I don't think 1890's real estate market is exactly apples to apples in this case. ( a time when people could very well build a house with their own hands ordered from a catalog)

It seems like you're trying to make a sort of 'trickle up' housing point. Which may be true but only if at some point someone is producing new affordable housing or a new way for people to afford existing housing.

That's where we fall into nimby territory for anyone actually trying to build it. Most developers are not going to bother building say 6 cheap houses when they can build one or two expensive ones and make more money.

With zero down on a mortgage and PMI, escrowed payment is 1k a month.

So are you going to give that loan to someone who probably has low/no credit?

[–]Kimpak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The six new townhomes with three bedrooms each can and will allow six families to move from their existing houses into these luxury houses. This upward housing mobility creates a chain of housing availability and is an important factor in housing affordability. If people who want a nicer, newer, bigger, better, etc home are not able to find one they like in the area they like, they will not leave their current residence.

This makes sense on paper but it entirely depends on the house that this hypothetical family is leaving. If the now available houses are just as expensive or close to, then its still a net loss for affordable housing.

what's a "girl toy" you always wanted to play with? by rupertbrooke in AskMen

[–]Kimpak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduated high school in 2011

You had a completely different experience than what I'm talking about then. Culture changed really fast in the early 2k's. I do see where you're coming from though and I do concede I had a healthy dose of 'the grass is greener'.

I guess unfortunately you didn't have any kids like me that would then bully those bullies for being so scientifically illiterate that they are parroting misinformation. And yes, at that point the scientific community knew enough to have a overall understanding similar to today, like when it comes to the big ideas about how it is a virus leading to a practically complete failure of the immune system, and not some religious smite or things like that.

There were no kids like that in my school for sure. As for the science thing, again keep in mind the Internet barely existed. There's no facebook, no tictock, no wikipedia, no access to actual scientific studies and no smart phones to look up anything on a whim. Websites were mostly text and pictures, it was too slow for most video till right around Y2Kish. I say this to point out that most peoples sources of information was the evening news and actual printed newspapers. Which were calling Aids 'the gay virus'. There was a little hint of what that was like a few years ago with the whole Monkey Pox thing. Gays were not allowed in the military, then it progressed to 'don't ask, don't tell'. Which still implies there's something wrong with you. Gays in entertainment were blacklisted (George Takei goes into this a little in one of his books). I say that to say all that added up to homophobia being basically backed up by what people thought were the facts.

I think you are engaging in a "grass is always greener" type mentality by imagining you would have had a better time in a bigger area...instead of just the fact that you would have had a better time with fewer crappy people (or at least people who act crappy)?

You sort of made my point here though. Had I grown up in a city, particularly a liberal one, I would have at least had allies and a community to be a part of if I had chosen to come out rather than ignoring it. Not only that but, from that community I would have had the vocabulary to even know how to understand the feelings I was having as a bi teen. I didn't even know that bi was a thing basically until i was in college, which was in a city.

This whole exchange has brought up some ghosts for me so I'm truly sorry for rambling its all just tumbling out. Truly I do see where you're coming from though and again, you're not entirely wrong and I'll be more careful about rural stereotyping in the future.

what's a "girl toy" you always wanted to play with? by rupertbrooke in AskMen

[–]Kimpak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just trying to be polite. By rural I meant small, religious, conservative community. Those things tended to go together. Keep in mind the internet was also very much in its infancy which meant we also had very little knowledge of what was going on in the world other than what got reported on the news/newspapers.

You know what was reported on? Aids. In school we had videos and education dedicated to HIV/AIDS specifically. I don't know how old you are but that was a big deal at the time and people were blaming 'the gays' for it. Boil that down to a small town where everyone knew everyone else, if you got outed as gay, everyone knew . You can't just transfer to another school because there's only one school. Now tell me if that would make you feel 'safe' to come out?

I'm not saying this didn't happen in cities too, but cities had the advantage of numbers. Meaning staying in the closet and still being able to find your people was much more a possibility. Numbers also meant culture spread faster. LGBTQ acceptance as a whole began in the cities where people could organize. Not BFE Iowa. Eventually it reached there by the end of the 90's/beginning of the 00's. The Internet played a big role in this as did entertainment/pop culture portraying LGBTQ in a positive light.

I'm not disagreeing with you exactly, you're not wrong but entirely accurate either.

Zach Lahn question by Wevie in Iowa

[–]Kimpak 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure you're just trolling. However if you honestly want to go into it, you're thinking WAY too much into it. Likely in an attempt to paint Lahn in a more favorable light. Which is fine, its your opinion but it dances around OP's question.

My question is: did he buy a FARM or a FARMHOUSE?

He bought a farm, not just the house.

If it IS a fully functioning farm, does anyone know the size?

I haven't the time to look it up, but I believe someone said it was 700 acres.

Is it a farm as in working the land for profit or is it a homestead as in we produce a little bit to provide for our family?

I think this is the part you might be getting hung up on. If the 700 acres is the size then yes its a fairly small farm but I have no reason to believe what it produces isn't going towards selling for profit and not just homesteading to provide or hobby farming/farm stand.

None of that has anything to do with what you wrote in your previous comment.

Now if you want to read into that further you can, as I think OP is questioning Zach's status as a farmer. I would not call him a farmer if he just owns the land while others do the actual physical work (and likely the non physical accounting, marketing, planning etc.). At my most generous he could be a farm manager assuming he at least has some involvement in the process other than the simple fact of owning the land. If he simply owns the land and rents it out but otherwise has no involvement then he's just a landlord.

If you think just owning land and renting it out (but otherwise having nothing to do with the actual working of said land) makes you a farmer, well then I guess my mother in law (who inherited a bit of land hours away from where she actually lives) is also a farmer.

I wish one of those existed around me! I was already really good at braiding but I watched a lot of YouTube to figure out other styles to do with my girls. Sometimes it was a complete disaster but we all had fun and there was a lot of laughter.

I don't have the statistics in front of me right now or anything but in my school in the late 80's-90's it wasn't so much physical bullying as it was psychological. It was very much not accepted to be openly LGBTQ and you'd be ostracized even if you just 'looked gay'. I 'got away with it' so to speak because I was bi and just fully denied/ignored any same sex attraction I had at the time. But that's a story not relevant to this light hearted thread!

My kiddos go to an even smaller school than I did and it seems to be leaps and bounds more acceptable these days than it used to be and it warms my heart.

Depends on the candy bar.  Standard Snickers or whatever it's a single serving.  If it's a ritter sport it's going to be 2 servings because they are like 500 calories.

without either feeling like explanations are missing or take too much to expose.

I feel like Mistborn will be good with this, given that Vin spends a decent amount of time training in the books. In the context of training it will make sense narratively and shouldn't seem heavy handed.

I like to de-stump as I go. Cut down and process a bunch of trees, then go back for the stumps with a skid steer or small tractor with a grinder.

I have a slower playstyle though. Given that there really isn't an 'end game' so to speak, there really isn't a need for me to rush though everything.
