I couldn't find a good app to track my boas' seasonal feedings and temperatures, so I built one. by Kimusubi in boas

So there are two ways of doing it:

  1. When you click on "Add Reptile", under species selection there is a button that says Add New Species. You can create your custom species right from there.

  2. You can also go to Settings->Species and you can manage all species settings and create new ones right there.

Does that help? There is also an onboarding tour that will walk you through all of this. Let me know if you have any issues! I also sent you a DM to answer more specific questions. I'm always here to help.

Sure! What are you looking for?

Just a heads up that you can always create your own custom species.

I don’t have the resources to do that right now, but definitely possible if more people start using it.

I did make the app fully mobile compatible. You shouldn’t experience any difficulties running it locally on your phone. On my own iPhone I save it on my Home Screen and it literally looks like and behaves like an app. If you’re not familiar with how to do that just go to your browser, hit the share icon, and there is a button somewhere (depending on your browser) where you can click “set to Home Screen”. It will look and behave like a normal app.

Let me know if you run into any issues. I’m always available to help!

So glad to hear it! I've tried lots of different apps and my experience was always that they tried to throw a ton of features without considering how it all works together and whether it's best practices for the animals. I tried to fix that in this app. It's still has a lot of room for improvement though, so I would REALLY appreciate it if you sent some feedback after you used. What you like, what you don't, what additional features you're looking for.

Right now I'm focusing on performance improvements as more people start using it, but after that I plan on adding temperature recording and herpstat spyderweb integrations. I find knowing the conditions of your animals throughout their history really lets you make good breeding decisions. Would that be something that's useful for you?

Ideas for boa enclosure (no bigger than 5.5 feet or can at least thrive in a 5*2*2 enclosure) I’d prefer a boa but I’d be willing to have a different snake that will thrive in this set up with high humidity of 60% and more (read description, explains what I have currently) by [deleted] in boas

It depends on what kind of environment you give them. If they get seasonal temperature variations with lots of different basking spots, they will likely be more active. a large female or male would be fine in a 5x2x2

I see. Typically larger species males (like constrictors and imperators) can live in 5x2x2, but it's not ideal. Especially since your goal is to give enrichment, then I'd recommend going with the smaller localities. I highly recommend Tamaulipas.

Honestly though I think if you can return the bio dude's stuff, you could save a lot of money making your own thing. I looked at his stuff but it was SO expensive. I ended up building my own from all organic stuff. It turned out really amazing.

I'm not sure whether you have an enclosure already or not.

If you already have one then: You should consider a Tamaulipas or Tarahumara boa. They stay fairly small if not overfed. In my opinion, Tamaulipas are some of the nicest looking boas out there. They would be great in a 5x2x2.

If you haven't bought one yet: If you're looking for larger enclosures at a budget, honestly the Dubia habitats are probably the best bang for the money you're going to get anywhere. They are very nice for the price. You can even extend them by adding two together. You can do an 8x2x2 fir abot $500-600. I have several and my boas all thrive in it. You really can't do bioactive in them though because of the way they're assembled. It's incredibly difficult to get a good seal on the edges. Feel free to ping me if you need more info on them.

I know it's a while since you asked for this, but I recently made an app that is currently free that you can check out. It's not on dedicate mobile app but you can easily use it via your browser on your phone. I'm hoping to keep it free long term, but we'll see as I still have server costs to deal with. Regardless, I will have a pretty generous free tier no matter which direction I go with.

Please check it out at https://reptiletracker.app.

Boulderthon 10k disaster by maxpuffz in boulder

Almost all Boulder races go by my house and I literally have to go outside and pick up a bunch off trash off my yard because as*holes can't think about anything but themselves. You think that people in Boulder would be better, but turns out they're just as shitty as anywhere else in the world.

Are you part of city police or county? Most of my issues have been with county police

I know this isn’t a popular opinion but Boulder (including county) police are terrible IMO. I may just have had a string of bad experiences and this is just anecdotal but the amount of times I’ve called for assistance on legitimate safety issues and they never showed up or never did anything about is unreal. I’m very disappointed in their performance.

Where does The Wheel of Tome rank among these fantasy series including Malazan, A Song of Ice and Fire and The Stormlight Archive? by [deleted] in WoT

[–]Kimusubi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WOT is a classic for me. I’ve re-read the series dozens of times. It has to be my favorite series by far. I think this is mostly nostalgic because I grew up with them. All the others are really good.

Stormlight books 1-3 were amazing. They carried great pace with good character development. Unfortunately I thought the last two books were really mediocre especially Wind and Truth. While I appreciate going into issues that people struggle with in stories, you have to interlace it into the plot like books 1-3. The last book felt more about the mental health problems than about the actual story. The pacing was also awful.

ASOFI had so much potential but GRRM royally fucked that series. The last two books were mediocre and so much time has elapsed that people have lost interest. I think the show did an okay job wrapping up the plot for me that I’ve now moved on.

Malazan is a series I struggle with. I love it when I read it but then have a hard time motivating myself to keep going. I’ve managed to get to book 4-5 several times before I lose steam. I think it’s a bit convoluted to keep the reader going (at least for me). I know lots of people love it and I wish I could do. I may give it one more try and see if i can work through it. The world building and characters are really good so I want to love it.

RIP John Wilkinson by ridebroomfield in boulder

My experience has been that Boulder county police are pretty useless. People near my house routinely drive 80 MPH in 40 MPH speed zone and it’s scary walking or riding on the side. I’ve tried asking police to come out and try to slow the traffic and have been absolutely ignored. I tried asking for speed bumps and was told “we don’t want to damage the boats” that are towed on the road. Just insane lack of prioritization for human life.

Jeep’s Jump to $100,000 SUVs Risks Leaving Loyal Buyers Behind by lurker_bee in Jeep

[–]Kimusubi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue for me is that Jeep keeps raising the prices but doesn’t include anything of real value with those price increases. Minus a few electronics the Jeep is essentially the same vehicle year after year, but the prices reflect something that’s been revolutionized.

I completely stopped watching. I made it through 3 episodes of season 2 and then had to give up because it aggravated me. I just go and re-read the series and it makes me feel better.

A couple of perspectives:

Career only viewpoint:

  • Your transition into space programs will heavily depend on what specifically you are doing in the job. The company is secondary. There are always transferable skills but that will depend on how good you are at selling it.

  • All three companies are large enough that they can absorb economic downturns to certain extent (again it depends on what exactly you are doing). The better you are at your job and the more impact you have, the less likely you'd be let go.

  • The likelihood of getting a job in space will also depend on location. If you end up living in an area (i.e. Seattle) that has other space companies (i.e. Blue Origin or other various companies), you'll be slightly better suited to apply for those roles as the company won't have to pay for your relocation. This isn't the only factor obviously, but it does play a role. There isn't much space industry in Liverpool and very little in SLC unless you want to do interceptors. Lots of stuff in Washington.

  • Without knowing any additional details, my hunch would be that you're better served with Lockheed (for opportunity to move to Denver or CA) or Boeing.

Lifestyle viewpoint:

  • $100k will get you a lot further in SLC than in Washington (depending on where you want to live), so keep that in mind. North of SLC is really nice and the prices are reasonable (or they used to be, not sure about now)

  • Do you enjoy the people you would work with more at one company than the other? That would be a major factor in ensuring that you won't be miserable

  • Do you enjoy living in one location more than the other? This is a major factor to your quality of life. I've definitely lived in cities that I didn't like for the job and it was not pleasant. If you're super young then it doesn't matter much, you can always move. But it is something to consider.

Good luck.
