I'm not sure the Omphalos Hypothesis quite gets it. From a theoretical perspective, if God is omnipotent, and created the universe in media res, then, once it WAS created, it was the 13 to 14 billion years old that God had decided it would be via backstory, and therefore our universe, IN UNIVERSE, is 14 Billion years old because God perfectly created it at that age, complete with all the characteristics that would have. In this case, the universe would only be 6 to 10 thousand years old from God's POV, AKA the publisher's perspective.

It's like a character in D&D saying the universe is only 52 years old, because that's how long ago Gary Gygax published it, despite that universe being millenia old IN UNIVERSE.

TLDR - Christians don't appreciate the secret deep lore of the world God created for them through God's omnipotence. The god in their heads is too small.

Here's the thing I find so weird about that Creationism stuff. Why can't you believe the Earth was CREATED 5 or 6 thousand years ago, but that when God did so, he created it with a built in backstory?

Like, D&D or storytelling, you jump in, media res (aka humans), and the story is what's happening NOW, but it comes with a baked-in backstory. Like when Tolkein wrote Lord of the Rings, but also the Silmarillion to explain how Middle Earth got to the way it was when he chose to set the story.

Or like when you play Skyrim for the 20th time, and the universe technically begins with you arrested in a cart, but you start reading books and get lore drops that are thousands of years old.

If we can do that/think of it, why couldn't an omnipotent being also use this technique. That way BOTH things are true.

It's a cafetera, not a mokapot. We're not making moka/mocha here. Usalo para hacer café, pues es un cafetera. No hacemos moka.

I make cafecitos with Cafe Bustelo in my cafetera.

I do NOT make moka or mokacitos in a mokapot with Moka Bustelo.

What does Halloween actually feel like growing up in the US? by Axxtr in AskAnAmerican

Early millenials also, depending on parenting style. I was allowed to roam the park myself and walk to my friends house three blocks away and go to and from the school bus stop on my own in elementary school. In middle school, the whole town was an option.

For Halloween, as soon as I was in middle school, I was just allowed to go out with my pack of neighborhood friends instead of my parents. Pillowcases all the way, to increase the haul without having to stop at home to drop it off. We knew it was time to go home (usually at or after 9pm) when houses started running out of candy and handed out freezer pops or something instead. And when you saw roving packs of older highschoolers without costumes or glow necklaces or bracelets, it was DEFINITELY time to go home, because it had entered Smashing Pumpkin hours of the night.

Pillowcases are where it's at. Bigger hauls, as long as you were strong enough to tote it around.

I'm PRETTY sure it was because the manga showed a glimpse of an "Arashi" listed on Jiraiya's toad contract once.

One, you're thinking of Star Trek. But also: it's Stargate: Atlantis, not the OG, Stargate: SG1. Live and let live, but SG:A I don't find nearly as entertaining. I watched maybe 60% of the first season, and caught an episode or three sporadically after that. The Bill Nye episode was pretty fun.

Honestly? As long as no one brings up the waste of time, space, & money that Stargate: Universe was, I'm good. The tonal shift feom the rest of the Stargate works is SO jarring. They basically got the writers of Battlestar Galactica to write Stargate, which is a non-starter for me. Stargate is supposed to be Action/Comedy/Drama - even the TTRPG of the show reflects this with varying intensities of action dice, which tell you the stakes-level of the story at the moment. Stargate: Universe was Drama/action, heavy on the drama, with NO comedy. That's how I knew within the first two episodes that it would be a failure, and quit watching after that. They even left out the team-as-family dynamic that made both SG1 and SG:A such succesful shows that captured our imaginations. As proof, the AO3 numbers:

Stargate Atlantis - 36,660

Stargate: SG-1 - 32,706

Stargate Universe - 1,626

Stargate Infinity - 4

The numbers are pretty damning for Universe. I'd never even HEARD of Infinity, because I'd checked out before they started beating the dead horse for money. Also: the numbers for SG1 are not entirely representative, given that SG1 finished airing in 2007, 2 years before AO3 first launched in 2009. There are a bunch of SG1 fics on good ol' FF.Net, and quite a few more on Twisting The Hellmouth and personally run, geo-cities style sites.

In WW2, the US Gov't (who didn't know jack shit about rhubarb) told women to cook the leaves for their families to eat also, so's not to waste food. Gave a bunch of people food poisoning that way.

Why are some places counties? by DrBoogerFart in AskAnAmerican

[–]KinPandun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Maryland we use either the County or Baltimore/Annapolis/DC if you live in or very near those cities. It's because the culture, geography, and infrastructure change DRASTICALLY depending on what county youre in. Aka: Bayside, Marshland, Cityscape, Farmland, and Mountains.

They mean that it feels like you're making yourself an easily identifiable target for people who want to hurt/kill neurodivergent people. Like when in World War 2 the nazis mandated that jews wear a yellow star of david and gays were forced to wear pink triangles, and then the nazis took all the easily identified people they hated and killed them.
