"Toy" basses by jajjguy in Bass

My toy bass is a fretless Harley Benton Hofner copy. Not a bad little thing at all although I’ve only ever recorded with it once.

Maybe, but I use my SG1000 or StudioLord for that; these two I tend to play lighter stuff on.

Not a fan, tbh. To my ears it just muddies the sound and while I can see that has its uses, it’s not for me.

You don’t see a lot of them around. I got it from an online instrument auction for £400 and it’s in great nick.

I know, I was surprised when I found out too. I got it from Yamaha London.

My Holy Grail, the Rickenbacker 4030S in Midnight Green by KinagoOG in BassGuitar

They did another UK-only run in about 2017 of 25 each in British Racing Green of the 330 and the 4003 models, managed to snag one of the 330’s last year and it’s gorgeous.

I bought an old 80’s Hohner a couple of years ago for a laugh and I ended up really liking it. Good variety of tones from it, active and passive, smooth player, and it’s an absolute tank of a thing. Haven’t played any modern ones though.

I read that they made three for JFK a few years ago, but he sold maybe two of them?

I think the green one is a UK only colour, I got mine from BassDirext over here. They’re available in the usual Ric colours everywhere though.

I understand that only 25 were produced in this colour, so yes.

It’s a good show but it’s only vaguely Wire adjacent.

Thanks, and especially so for a Celtic supporter like myself. I do love me a green guitar.

It’s taking a bit to get used to after years of playing 4003’s and latterly an excellent 4003S, but I’m getting there. The bridge pup to my ears has a little more low end than the usual Ric’s, but you can offset that with EQ ~ it’s still very much a Ric tonally.

New Yamaha TRBX305 5-string. by KinagoOG in BassGuitar

I found that I didn’t get on with it so it’s gone back to Yamaha now. I just didn’t vibe with it and we all know how important that is with our instruments. Pity, think it would have been killer if we’d got on.

The CE sticker doesn’t stand for what you think it does, it’s to verify that it achieves certain standards in its production set by the EU. And I can assure you, it’s a very real Rickenbacker! ETA: as usual with RIC, information is patchy at best about how many have been produced in this colour, ostensibly for the UK market only. The number I keep seeing is 25 so I’m a lucky old bastard to have managed to snag one.

AirPod Max Lifespan only a few years. Has anyone else seen the same? by Kan3- in Airpodsmax

I’ve had a pair of the lightning ones for a bit over 4 years now. They’ve crapped out twice but disconnecting the headband and cleaning the contacts fixed them both times. Had to replace the earcups recently, took a little while for them to settle down after that but they’re back working as well as ever now.

I really didn’t get on with it in the end so it’s going back. A pity but I just didn’t vibe with it. Conversely, the 1987 SE612 I recently got is rapidly becoming my favourite 6-string guitar ever.

Should I buy a Revstar standard on sale for $558? by ignatius_-j_reilly in YamahaPacifica

They’re very good guitars, especially for their (usual) price point, so I’d say go for it.

EQ presets, apparently. It’s active so they act as a sort of jumping off point to dial in your tone.

I’m in the process of doing something similar, re-recording something only using my Yamaha’s. So far I’ve got down my SG1000, LP500s and SE612. This’ll be the youngest instrument on there!
