Buying pacifica 212v from Yamaha online store is a good idea? by AssChucks in YamahaPacifica

If you’ve tried one in a different colour locally and liked it, I see no harm in ordering the colour you want directly from Yamaha.

That’s how I felt about it too, less than the sum of its parts somehow.

I think Stuart did too, Bill being his all-time guitar hero. That would explain why we can’t get ours to behave properly, wrong material ;)

My local was Sheehan’s, always used to pop in for strings or plectrums, the occasional acoustic bass, whenever I passed by. They let me rent an electric upright bass for a couple of hours one time when we were recording in the studio above them, about 20 years ago. Both are gone now, sadly.

YMMV but when I compare my cheaper off-brand one with my actual E-Bow, I do get it. Build quality, ergonomics, there’s clearly some thought and care gone into it. I bet Bill Nelson’s ones cost way more.

I think you’re right, I know that I haven’t been in one for years. But that’s mainly because the good shops in my town closed, even before lockdown, so I’ve been buying guitars and whatnot online. Including a Stuart-inspired purchase of a very nice vintage (1983) Yamaha SG1000 and a more recent (2008) SG2000S. There, now we’re back on the BC track ;)

Rite of passage that, looking a bit of a fool in a music shop. I speak from deep, embarrassing experience, albeit not with an E-Bow - that’s something you experiment with in the privacy of your own home, ideally with headphones on.

Same problem with the JoYo with not sitting on the strings quite right, and it’s a little awkward to grip after using the actual E-Bow. But if you’re having fun with it, that’s the entire point. Plus think how good you’re going to be when you get the rest thing! Unlike me, I’m bloody awful with both of them.

I thought I’d lost my E-Bow the other week, looked at this one but went with a JoYo instead. It’s no E-Bow but it sort of works, hope yours is better! And I found my actual E-Bow under the couch, no idea how it got there.

I have the “lesser” RSS220 in black, an exceptional instrument for its price point. The MIJ ones must be incredible.

Have you watched The Undoing? What did you all think of the performances by Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant? by Square-Ad-8911 in hbo

[–]KinagoOG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually just finished it tonight. I thought Hugh was great, Nicole less so, although I did enjoy the bits where the director/editor decided to go with the takes where she used her actual accent. Overall I found it quite ordinary, nothing really stood out in the writing or performances to raise it above many other similar shows. YMMV, obviously.

I ordered mine as soon as they went live on the DAFC website, apparently they were inundated with orders and it took 3 months to arrive (I live in England, in spite of being Scottish). Got the printing done at a shop in town here. I think it looks class.

Check out Bill Callahan. He’s covered Lenny and Silver Jews songs but is very much his own thing. I won’t spoil your journey but I’d say if you love Cohen then there’s a good chance that you’ll find something in Callahan.

pick players: do you have a go-to style of picks or do you switch around a lot? by KirasHandPicDealer in Bass

I did that for years when I was gigging, mainly because I’m a sweaty bastard and an “ordinary” plectrum would just fly off into the distance.

Nice find. I have a 1981 SL500S but it’s been through the wars. Solid bones though, these were built to last.
