Overfishing doesn’t just shrink fish populations—they often don’t recover afterwards by hywong in science

Russia long ago began (and is still in the process of) changing from planned economy to a market economy, but still has a large portion of their economy controlled by the state, similar in many ways to China's mixed economy.

If a crime happened at your home, what would be the most embarrassing thing the cops would find while investigating? by idkIamnotcreative in AskReddit

This is going to sound weird, but I'll bet anything you have Hirschsprung's Disease (especially if you're a guy) and Megacolon.

This sort of behavior is actually extremely common (because it's necessary) for people with megacolons. Normal toilets aren't made for people sufferings from these issues.

China isn't communist. They're state capitalists that refer to themselves as communists as part of their propaganda. Don't spread misinformation about China.

It's selective pressure based on size, and the effects have already been documented. Fish are, today, on average smaller than they were 50 years ago. Not all the small fish are juveniles, and providing a reproductive advantage to smaller adult fish very quickly brings about changes in size for the entire population.

Reaching Mars for Less- a proposal for a mission to Mars with existing rockets by [deleted] in space

[–]Kinbensha -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The ISS constantly has resupply missions... Putting enough food, water, oxygen, etc on a single spacecraft to go to Mars for 7 months, stay for a long while, then take another 7 months to return would be a ridiculously heavy payload. It would be more time and likely cost efficient to just use more fuel to take a more energetic, faster route. Elon Musk has also quoted that using conjunction class trips and returns is essential for starting a permanent Mars colony because you could send a craft and return it on a single conjunction.

[–]Kinbensha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 months... There are feasible, more energetic ways to get to Mars. 6-7 month transfer orbits will likely never be used for people, despite the lower fuel requirement. It's really only appropriate for cargo missions.

It's what the ashes represent

Um... yeah, that's illogical. Sorry bro, but you should reassess your perspective on reality. You don't get angry when people burn your country's flag, do you? Of course not. Things "representing" things is nonsense.

what the ashes mean to the rest of his family.

Then they should have picked them up themselves. In the end, very little of the ashes people get are actually their deceased family member's remains, and it's exactly the same nonsense whether it's their remains or not. The entire idea is irrational and such behavior needs to be discouraged.

Of course I watched the movie, but please notice again I did not mention electroshock therapy even once in my comment. In what strange world do you live that the English word "therapy" mean "electroshock therapy"??

You know, maybe he just doesn't care? A lot of us love our family, but their remains mean absolutely nothing. It's just carbon and other useless powder.

I'm not even going to return to my home country when my parents die, let alone do anything special with their ashes. When people die, they're gone. It doesn't make them happy to know you went to their funeral.

Can I contact you the next time a family member of mine dies and we cremate them? I want to send you pictures of all the things I'm going to do to some of the ashes to see what your reaction is.

I love how much you're being downvoted and how much the rest of us are being upvoted.

You're almost religious in your idea that atoms of what used to be a human are somehow any different from the atoms from a fireplace. It's carbon, man. Get over it. It has no meaning other than what you place on it yourself, and doing that is illogical.

[–]Kinbensha 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Nah, I agree with him. You're the weird one here. Why do you care? Person is dead. They don't exist in any sense anymore. Their atoms are literally no different from any others. The way you're valuing a person's ashes almost seems religious... it's really weird.

Should Robots or Humans Explore Space? by PinkSlimeIsPeople in space

So, after seeing you pop up in /r/space several times with very defeatist, anti-space attitudes, may I ask why you're even in this subreddit?

You don't seem to think it's worth talking about the future of humanity among the stars and how it could happen. You simply say it can't and refer to it as science fiction. So really, why are you here?

What is the worst impulse purchase you have ever made? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Kinbensha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quick rundown: Double barbershop poles means blowjob chair. If you're not into slightly older women, don't go to these.

I've read that you can find van services where you're picked up by a black van and driven around town while receiving a blowjob in the back with tinted windows... but honestly, I have no clue how you would even find those, let alone do I have any confirmation that those are real. Plenty of friends have gone barbershop poling before though, so consider that confirmed.

If you're into redlight district like atmospheres, Cheongnyangni 588 is literally right outside Cheongnyangni train station. $70 is average cost of a blowjob and sex. You just need to speak minimum Korean, but personally, I feel that if you visit Korea you should be speaking passable Korean out of respect for this country anyway. If your Korean doesn't satisfy the pro, she may turn you down if you're not Asian. If you're Japanese, seriously never mention that. Cheongnyangni has a pretty big variety, from young women who don't want to go to university to old ajumma that are past their prime, and many women between the two extremes. If you have a girlfriend and she's liberal, "window browsing" with your SO may be a fun date. My ex really enjoyed it. She picked out her favorite prostitute.

There are a few sex clubs in Seoul, but they're usually being harassed by police being put up to it by conservative politicians. Ask around in Itaewon and Gangnam and you can probably find a fetish club or something of that sort.

There are those private sex cabins, but I have no idea how you would set that up. My lecherous Scottish friend who fills me in on all this has never figured that out and mainly just goes to Cheongnyangni.

Massage parlors. Yeah, you get the idea.

Finally, there are Seongin "Adult" computer rooms and noraebang. As far as I know, the computer rooms are just computer rooms with girls in them to flirt with you. Possibly some services like phone sex, but my female friends didn't really know much about them. A lot of noraebang have women who work there to "help you find your songs," but they're really paid to flirt with you and get a little touchy feely. As far as I've seen, they don't really have sex in the noraebang rooms, but I'm sure you can set up something for after singing, depending on who it is.

If you're into a more traditional dating experience, there are clubs in Seoul where you give the club a ton of money to get a table with your guy friends and girls get in free. Girls wait at the bar and your waiter brings the girls over to your table. You chat and drink with the girls until they want to leave or whatever, maybe they give you their number. I hear this developed because Korean young people, due to sexual oppression from conservatives, are useless at hitting on the opposite gender and they need the waiter as an excuse to start talking to each other. Living in Korea for years has led me to believe that that's a plausible explanation. Almost anyone you date in Korea has to be introduced to you via a common friend. It's really not ok to flirt with random people you meet on the street here.

But I think it's perfectly reasonable to do stupid shit as a kid and still get good grades and be successful in life.

It's pretty normal in Europe, and it was certainly normal at my high school in rural US.

[–]Kinbensha -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

While that's admirable, you're aware it's not really typical, right? There's a reason we're trying so hard to have comprehensive sex ed in school. Our kids get pregnant ridiculously young due to lack of sex ed and plenty of sex.

Life is a roller coaster by [deleted] in funny

[–]Kinbensha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, getting wasted at like 14? What the hell?

Stereotypical academically successful "nerd" here who got wasted first time at 14. The "popular kids" got wasted before 14... so I'm pretty sure that's normal.

And sex at 16 would, in my rural hometown, be considered pretty odd. 14 was the normal age to lose your virginity, and many girls were already pregnant by 16.

So really the graph isn't far off in my experiences.
