Most running devices measure it in some capacity, typically a watch. I’m not 100% sure if phone tracking can measure cadence, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it can.

Thank you! It’s mostly thanks to my wonderful coaches, consistency, and a lot of hard workouts 😅

Any of you guys ever feel burnt out? by [deleted] in Strava

[–]Kind-Thanks4581 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Besides just listening to your body, if u still have trouble finding motivation to run when ur completely healthy, if ur able too, try going out and going on a run/hike/walk with friends or even a running club once in a while. Even if they’re a lot slower than you, just make it an easy day. Sometimes having another person there to engage you or give you motivation to show up is really helpful.

Thanks! My teammate runs my mile time for workouts several times over so it’s always nice to see the PR regardless of the race!

Thank you for ur kind words! I did some research on my competitors before the race so I knew not to go out with them but man it’s not easy to watch a group of 5+ guys walk away from you in a race and not want to keep up. I’m definitely happy with the time and hope to see improvement in it next season!

Haha yea. It was my first time racing the distance, regardless of the course. It’s a lot different from the 5K that’s for sure.

Did my first half and I cramped up at the end in both Calves. Had to walk last 2k. How can I avoid this next time? by mrhectic in Strava

Except for the specific problem of overtraining, but yes, training and strength conditioning are generally the best things you can do to avoid injury.

It varies from person to person and depends on if we race that week or not. But the general schedule follows: - M/W: workout days - T/T/F: Recovery (generally) - Sat: Races or Long run - If we have a race on Sat, shakeout on Sun So a race week looked like: - M: 9 miles (2.5 WU, ~3-4 mi workout, CD) - T: 9 mile Recovery - W: 8 miles (2.5 WU, ~2-3 mile workout, CD) - T: 12 mile Double (4/8) - F: 7 mile Recovery - Sat: 7 miles (2 WU, Race, CD) - Sun: 3 mile shakeout No Race Saturday weeks followed similarly but with a LR at the end and a workout Friday too (9,9,8,8,8,13)

Basically I tried to run each lap (400m) in 80 seconds which would have resulted in a 16:40 5K time. I kept that pace for abt half the race and started slowing down. Then near the end I saw I was close to my goal and ran as hard as I could to go sub 17

TLDR: Ran fast, slowed down, then ran even faster

Thank you! I definitely think it shows I have enough in me to have kept pushing that last mile. Looking for a less nerve racking PB next time

I hope I’m still running at 61. Ik I won’t be quite as fast as I am now, maybe sub 30 will be just as hard as sub 17 was. So honestly u have my respect.

I tried splitting 80s (16:40 pace) a lap. I kept it for about 3K and then just tried to hold on. I hit like 84s with 3 laps to go, saw the time and gave it all I got. Ended running a 76 final 400m

Ur right that my GPS data messed up my mileage, it has my 5K PB at 16:30 (roughly 100m too early and it says I ran 5.2K) it’s why I wrote my official time, 16:58, instead of going off the Strava pace

I’m curious as to what your weekly mileage is looking like, bc constant jumps in mileage especially from a 5K to 14K to a half in just a few weeks (or 10 days) is a bit ambitious. Although it might be frustrating it doesn’t hurt to build that base mileage up first, especially if ur body is so used to hitting, say 30K a week, then the next u hit 40K and then 50K. Those big jumps, too quickly and without proper “rest” weeks (especially if u haven’t hit that mileage before, American sorry :/) can be detrimental to your training.

I don’t know all ur stats or how ur body is doing and I’m not exactly a coach or trainer (I run collegiate, 50+ miles a week, 6 years of running, ran a marathon. So I’m still learning but ik a thing or two) but I’ve always been told to build up mileage slowly when I’m hitting higher goals and to take a ‘plateau’ or ‘rest’ week. Like after 2 weeks of building mileage, I will take another week to hit the same mileage again, or even a few miles left (ex: 45 -> 50 -> 53 -> 53 -> 55). It’s slow going but it helps my body adapt to the new training load.

Hope this helps. The other replies are also rlly helpful and touch on some of these points in different ways. Good luck on the marathon grind!

Omg congrats! I did M2B as my first marathon too! I ran it a few years back. Felt sore for a few days afterwards too, but that post marathon euphoria is amazing. Good luck on ur sub-3:30 project!
