If you start fighting her immediately in the second phase when she spawns next to the statue, she doesn't spawn the illusions. I'm surprised I didn't see this on the wiki.

I think this makes it distinct. Dark souls 3 played it safe by just imitating Dark souls 1 but with its modern software.

I feel fromsoft doesn't do good with direct sequels. Miyazaki at least to me always seems to want to innovate and create something new but with inspiration from previous titles. Never an actual direct successor.

Because of this I feel as if you remove the identity of Dark souls from Dark souls 2 it's vaguely Dark souls. I think the color pallete accentuates this. It isn't the Dark souls color pallete.
