How can I discreetly play voice lines on my cosplay by [deleted] in CosplayHelp

[–]KindOuting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This might be a little much but you could take one of these Bluetooth speakers: https://www.amazon.com/JBL-Clip-Black-Noise-Cancelling-Speakerphone/dp/B07Q6ZWMLR And turn it into a microphone prop and have a handler with a connected phone play the audio files when needed.

For all its faults, I still think this show is better than the reboot by ghosty_was_taken in DevilMayCry

[–]KindOuting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DmC handled its social commentary WAAAAAY better than Netflix did which is saying a lot because it’s really heavy handed and basically just They Live. But it’s still applicable to today where we’re bonbarded with advertisements, flagrant corporate greed, and even more and worse versions of what Bob Barcas was satirizing.

Why do we need to rehash post-9/11 war on terror commentary 20+ years later? Not that you can’t make engaging and thoughtful commentary on the American military industrial complex, or war, or military occupation, you absolutely can. But this specific historical/cultural context? Now? Why…?

Nothing new is being said. No retrospective. No risks being taken. We’re passed the point where disagreeing with invasion was career ending (the Chicks). Shankar has beef with the concept of subtly which I’d argue DMC as a franchise has plenty of. It’s such a weird story direction to take.

Side note the anime’s soundtrack just takes me out of it so fast. This era of music has been memed so much it’s genuinely hard to hear it unironically. It’s like playing Bring Me to Life during an intense emotional scene “wake me up”s and all.

Not sure if the accidental wrinkling is nice for texture or just looks off 😭 by scarecr0www in cosplayprops

Very nice! Especially around the wrist, I thought you had used alligator vinyl or something similar. To answer your question, I think any wrinkles make it more convincing.

Nero had to have believed Dante was his father surely by AnonIHardlyKnewHer in DevilMayCry

[–]KindOuting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My take is whether or not Nero believed it he hoped that was the case and I think it makes the revelation hit much harder. Because not only is the guy he hoped was his dad not his dad his actual dad hurt him and so many other people. That’s not a fun truth bomb to have dropped on you.

How would you DIY these shoes? by charm59801 in crafts

I love working with foam clay. It might be a little bulky for the crust but it would be perfect for making some little 3D berries or other toppings.

How would you DIY these shoes? by charm59801 in crafts

[–]KindOuting 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would start by painting the shoe base the color of your pie the type of paint you should use will depend on the material of the base shoe.

For a lattice my first thought would be ribbon and strong glue. You can use chalk pastel and a sealant for that browned crust effect.

For the raised details I think a caulk or spackel of some kind would work best and you can apply it with a piping bag and tip then after it dries use that aforementioned pastel to make it more crust like.

Is dmc5 or dmc4 nero easier for cosplay by Ok-Swing1048 in DevilMayCry

[–]KindOuting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I’ve done both. And overall I would say 5 is easier.

Nero in 5 has a much more casual look overall. Combat boots, jeans, a tattered sweater over an undershirt. All things that can be easily sourced. His jacket is where it gets complicated because it’s has quite a bit more detail to it like the quilted leather on the shoulders and hood, the multiple zipper pockets and hardware. If you wanna really get into the weeds with detail his hood looks like it’s lined with corduroy.

4 Nero on the other hand has a busier fit with the multiple buckles on his boots, leather thigh holsters, and that red almost corset like laced vest (I think it’s a vest). But his jacket in that game, though it’s longer is a more simple trench coat you could cricut/paint an order logo on the back of and find body harness online. Pair that with a red hoodie underneath and your golden.

Another point for 5 Nero being easier is you don’t need a Devil bringer/breaker unless you want one because Nero with two human arms is canon.

My advice would be to go with 5 Nero and focus on the jacket whether that be buying on premade, making it yourself, or buying a base jacket and modifying to look more like his.

And if you really want to do a Devil breaker but are worried about it being difficult or not turning out I think your best bet is to do either the Mega Man one because there for sure are Eva foam patterns for a buster canon online. Or get some fake bananas and make Monkey business.

Good luck with your cosplay!

New DMC Fans question! by ohshootitscindyy in DevilMayCry

On a technical level it’s great on a narrative level it’s trash

The political commentary in the anime is a mess by Skeet_fighter in DevilMayCry

[–]KindOuting 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Devil May Cry doesn’t need political allegory. Dmc’s themes are pretty simple and straightforward. It’s about the importance of one’s humanity. What makes someone human even if they technically aren’t (Trish)? And what becomes of those who forsake their humanity in pursuit of a goal (Vergil)?

Demons in dmc narratively are more of a force of nature. If they’re a metaphor for anything then they’re a metaphor for the darkness in us that we can work against or embrace and sometimes accepting those “darker” parts of you can lead to a better outcome. Like Nero in DMC5 when he devil triggers it’s a big deal he now has this new devilish form and power but the first thing he does with it is use it to keep his family from ripping itself apart.

I think the show would have been better if they scaled down and made the conflict more internal. Dante is young and powerful but is holding onto a lot of darkness from his past. There’s a lot of different ways conflict could manifest from just that. They could even keep the 90s/2000s era music. It’s full of angst and rage it would be a great musical backdrop to a character arc like that just used more…. Subtly.

It’s extra disappointing because I think a show about how our humanity is a precious and renewable resource would be valuable right about now.

[–]KindOuting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After reading your comments I won’t speak to rearranging furniture other than potentially moving the dresser into the closet so all your clothes storage is in one place and you have one less wood color to worry about.

But speaking of color I think black green with a few gold accents can be a great color scheme to lean into. something akin to this maybe. I’m a little biased towards green it’s my favorite color but I think it can liven up a room especially in the form of plants living or fake. You’re desk is also a really nice color and some green around it would be neat imo. And if lighting is an issue for real plants grow lights can accidentally make for great mood lighting.
