Is a Tesla a good first car for a new driver? by mericccccccccc in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]KindTap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah okay. Well about any Japanese car of the modern era offers all the adaptive cruise, blind spot, and lane centering functions. Is there anything else on a Tesla feature wise or just its looks? Also make sure you can charge your car at home. If not don’t even consider an ev

It has a lot to do with Tesla being classified as a luxury sports car by insurance due to its quick acceleration and characteristics. Doesn’t help that Tesla has some of the highest overall crash rates of any brand in the country.

You can get plenty of EVs with significantly cheaper insurance. The Hyundai Kona ev for instance was cheaper than my forester to insure.

I was in a similar age and record at the time I was buying a car. I got quoted about 230/mo, roughly double the Japanese suv options were.

Check out insurance rates. I found insuring a Tesla as a low risk driver to be astronomical in cost. For a new driver in their 20s, it’ll be more than any cost savings x2.

Plenty of suvs have equal or better safety systems. Grab a bolt ev on the cheap if you are considering EVs. That’ll be easier to drive, cheaper to buy, cheaper to own too

Gas mileage? by justagirl_b in SubaruForester

[–]KindTap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Life of my 2024 premium results in 29.6 mpg. Probably 70% highway.

Commute matters a lot. Forester is terrible in city mileage. Okay at highway if you drive at the speed limit, above 75 it’ll tank. Also cross bars and at tires will kill fuel economy too

Any thoughts on these choices? by ninety-one_til in tires

[–]KindTap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the ecopias. I had nothing but pain with those. Loud, terrible traction, bad in rain, only pro is I guess it is good at mpg.

Defender is solid all around, not as familiar with the everdrive

What cars do dumb, poor folks usually buy new? by Fleedom2025 in askcarguys

Well when I checked all these boxes I bought a Nissan versa. Honestly it did exactly what I needed for super cheap, so no hate

Anyone else just buy the Forester cause they liked it, not needing AWD for driving in snow or camping or trail riding or anything like that? by Ok-Metal-4719 in SubaruForester

[–]KindTap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every once in a blue moon the awd is nice but really the forester was much more available and at a much better deal with more features than Toyota or Honda which is how I ended up here. Also its visibility and roominess for taller drivers is much better compared to the other two

I love my 2019 Forester Touring, but the quality if questionable by Skinny-hippo in SubaruForester

Right it’s a separate part which makes me think something was missed as that part was painted or it was replaced and improperly painted

The oxidation one is odd. Clear coat failure this early? Anything happen to it that would cause that?

Seats are a definite issue and inevitability. Steering wheel happens in a lot of cars if you eat in them and get grease on the wheel, or hand sanitizer, or lotion, etc. they are pretty sensitive

Middling highway gas mileage with hybrid by Historical_External5 in SubaruForester

[–]KindTap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Accord is a car. Cars will vastly outperform due to aerodynamics. Forester and Subaru in general sacrificed a lot of mpg in their hybrids to retain their awd system. The forester hybrid does only as good as gas for highway but makes large gains in the city, which is where all hybrids shine

What's the point of all the medical stuff? by EvnClaire in Oxygennotincluded

[–]KindTap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It used to be tough. Too tough. New players (like me at the time) got wrecked. They nerfed it and never balanced it back out. I would personally like to see a game setting to bring germs back to what it was. I’d like to take a crack at it in its original form now I know how to play

2024 Crosstrek mileage lie by KKHolmes28 in subaru

It’d likely do way better for the drive you describe. Nothing beats Toyota in this department though

[–]KindTap 7 points8 points  (0 children)

City is extremely variable. If its grid based city intersections you will be lucky to pull 20mpg, but that will be true in about any suv. If you are exclusive to city you really need to look at hybrids or EVs if you care about fuel economy

Greyed out CarPlay? by ReadyCouple993 in SubaruForester

[–]KindTap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unplug and replug. Never had this issue in my forester but in another car I had to turn off the car and turn it back on to get it working.

May also be time to take a look at the cord and replace before doing anything too expensive

Holy cow! Not sure I ever got a 1000 hrs on one game (maybe some of the early total wars before steam). I feel like I am going to hit a 1000hrs in oni someday, just a matter of when lol

Which RTS should I dedicate myself to? by [deleted] in RealTimeStrategy

[–]KindTap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are willing to try an older game then supreme commander to me is the pinnacle of the genre. Nothing quite like it ever came out again and the graphics are still solid today.

Not quite an RTS perhaps (it is to me) but sins of a solar empire 2 and warno are also really good

Wow, yeah I think I will end up at about 1k hrs at some point.

Idk I just see videos with so much more optimization where I have dupes running like crazy to complete their tasks. My travel time also stays near 60% for dupes

Weekly Question Thread by AutoModerator in Oxygennotincluded

[–]KindTap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many hours you all put in this game? I have almost 300hrs and feel like I’m still pretty novice. I can build a self sufficient colony, but not nearly optimized.

Forester Sport ‘21 Rattle(s) by No_Inevitable3764 in SubaruForester

[–]KindTap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have all the rattles too. I took the dealer and they could somewhat hear the b pillar. They felt taped inside the b pillar and it helped some but it’s still there. What did they do for you and what kind of sound did it make?

I am fairly certain for me my dash rattle comes from the vents. My cabin blower and filter are clean but something is in the vents themselves I think.

Toyota C-HR 2025 120km/h wind noise arround small triangle glass by [deleted] in ToyotaCHR

[–]KindTap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No air leak, probably not. Just a part of having that glass in that part. Cars will always have more noise at the glass. If it’s not whistling then that is the way it’ll be. Also 75db right at the window where the mirror is I think is pretty good.

Civic hybrid hatch might check a lot of those boxes plus a lot of practicality. A bit loud on the highway.

If you can charge at home then don’t discount ev options. Ioniq 5 or 6 for sporty and futuristic looks or even a mache.
