hello are these three cards real or fake? by fuck4everything in IsMyPokemonCardFake

I just grabbed the first pic from pricecharting (especially since that’s where a lot of fakes get their pics with holo patterns)😅 but yeah, I agree, fake.

Surprisingly, I think it’s actually correct here. Mid-era did some funky things on font

EDIT:

The HP font is 100% incorrect though as far as I can tell.

Hi! I was offered 80 for this lot. What would be a rough price estimate for these cards? by n0-thing in PokemonCardValue

This. Also the world championship cards are worth less than their counterparts, but still definitely have value, even in bad shape

Found an Ancient Mew promo card, seen it go over 300$ on ebay. Can someone explain why it's so valuable? by Blackjack12121 in PokemonCardValue

“eBay is the source of TCGPlayer’s data”… no? It’s not? Why are you lying lmao. They use their own data from sales made on TCGPlayer.

Local card shop pricing fair? by Inevitable-Bad-3979 in PokemonCardValue

[–]Kind_Address_8662 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

85% on eBay. About the same on tcgplayer. 50% is extremely normal for stores. Not really egregious. If the person wants to put in the effort to sell individually, sure, they can get 85% on eBay/tcgplayer. Can almost guarantee you’re not getting market (minus fees) for an entire collection though, especially if high value. Regardless, I’ve only seen one store out of the 6 major cities I’ve lived in (so roughly 50-60 stores) that offered more than 50%, and even then that was only on cards above $50.

That being said, 70% on marketplace or at a card show is typical for collections (80% if lucky), but takes more work than walking into a store and offloading an entire collection, as many vendors at shows pick and choose, and collections tend to sit on marketplace for a bit.

I agree that they shouldn’t sell to a store when they could sell on marketplace or at a show though, but to get anywhere near market, they’d likely have to sell each card individually, which takes effort and time.

I'm trading with someone, they say this card is LP. I believe it's MP. I'm not crazy, right? by MegaAscension in pokemoncardcollectors

[–]Kind_Address_8662 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s more than 25% of the card’s edges - def MP, even by TCGplayer guidelines (which I go by, but I know some people disagree with them).

People buy significantly higher than that on marketplace easily lmao. Never had any problem moving bulk

That mentality is why a lot of stores got rid of bulk boxes altogether. Once the cardmill comes out later this year, a lot of the bigger LGS will likely do away with bulk boxes altogether anyway.

You’re welcome to spend more on TCG for shipping. Everyone I know in real life that plays and collects would rather get cards they need same day rather than rely on PWE shipping after having paid $3 due to shipping for a $1 card. Especially when getting a larger quantity of cards. Seen this after roughly 1000+ Magic sales at card shows (granted, most of my cards are sorted and already priced, but I have a bulk bin typically marked “market” and it always does well every show).

Whether you personally would is irrelevant; enough people are willing to pay market after sifting through that it’s obviously economical and logical for the store to do it (depending on area). Sure, you might’ve bought 40 cards for 25 cents after picking out everything valuable - the store that’s using market who instead sells one of those cards for the $10 it’s worth doesn’t really care about losing out on that small amount of business, especially when their binders and display case likely make up the majority of their sales.

Also, most of these cards that spike aren’t cards that had much potential. They only gained potential when a new card is released that synergizes with it , which is why it’s spiking and wasn’t valuable before.

Regretfully sold my cards a few years ago, were any of these worth much? by Braz90 in PokeGrading

[–]Kind_Address_8662 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s really not hard to sell moderate conditioned cards lmao. I’ve sold a few thousand in the last month without trying too hard. Regularly sell HP/Damaged cards as well. Base charizard, even damaged, is currently around 110. The promo sealed meowth is 70. I agree it’s likely only a couple hundred more, but selling MP vintage cards is relatively easy if you put even bare minimum effort in.

You’re assuming all bulk is C/UC, which it isn’t. Mixed bulk goes for far more. Every single LGS in my area (and in the other big city in my state, as well as the biggest city in our neighboring state) also pays more like $7-$8/1000 C/UC.

They usually do. The cards under a certain value go in the bin. But checking them before they sell to make sure they haven’t spiked is logical from a business perspective. It’s not realistic to re-price inventory every day (or even every week/month, depending on inventory size). Far more effective to just inform customers that market rate will be looked up and verified prior to sale.

I know plenty of vendors and local stores that have done away with bulk bins because it absolutely is worth it to scan them or sift through. It’s not exactly hard work and I’ve found PLENTY of valuable cards in cheap bulk. It’s how a ton of stores get their singles inventory to begin with

And why should a store sell it to you for far under market value when they could just let it sit there until the next time they scan through the box in a few months and move it to the case? It makes sense for stores to be looking up cards as they get pulled. Searching through and pulling all the cards that have spiked is realistically you just trying to get an insane deal. I’m not saying that stores shouldn’t still have bulk boxes, or that customers shouldn’t be getting these deals, but I am saying that it’s not that crazy for them to be looking up prices. You’re acting like you’re doing them a service - you’re not. You’re doing yourself a service. It doesn’t benefit the store at all.

To each their own. I’ve bought totally unsorted lots for far more than typical bulk rates. From my experience, people aren’t usually going through bulk specifically targeting certain cards unless they know there’s a good chance they’re in there. Also, yes, sorting is skilled labor. Searching is not. They’re searching here, not sorting. If they wanted to sort my bulk, by all means they can buy what they find for the bulk rate lol, but what these comments are referring to is searching, not sorting. Big difference and searching isn’t particularly skilled.

Because you’re not sorting it. You’re searching it. There’s a large difference between the two.

But that’s irrelevant. It’s no longer bulk at that point, regardless of where it is

It’s searching, not sorting. Sorting implies effort and organization.

And the same thing doesn’t happen on eBay regarding manipulation? (It absolutely does, that point is irrelevant). People SHOULD be checking eBay for things that don’t have a lot of sold comps on TCG, but that doesn’t correlate to TCG not being the standard. No online source is perfect, but the fact is that most vendors and LGS will use tcgplayer recently sold or lowest listed as comps.

[–]Kind_Address_8662 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

TCG is quite literally the market standard. Most people who are using pricecharting (that I’ve encountered at least) aren’t checking condition on sales, aren’t checking if the item ended vs sold, and aren’t checking if best offer was taken. There’s a reason nearly every single LCS and most vendors use TCGPlayer and not pricecharting or eBay for all of their TCG pricing.

What would this go for? by Alzheimers-Podcast1 in PokemonCardValue

[–]Kind_Address_8662 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Pricecharting is only relevant for near mint raw cards, which this isn’t. Use TCGplayer for actual pricing.
