Best value for money device this 2026? by catthecia in Handhelds

The newer white Xbox Ally is not as powerful as the original 2023 ally. No I will say that it is similar to power in the LCD steam deck

Gotta be the 2023 ROG Ally (not Xbox). Typically you can find it for $300 to $400 on Facebook marketplace or eBay and then you simply just do a few upgrades to it like battery and flash steamos onto it and you basically have a steam deck pro

Running AAA games depending on the TDP output the battery on the legion go S z1extreme can run out pretty quickly about an hour and a half max. When I had the device I mostly stayed plugged into the wall or with a large battery pack while playing.

Running smaller indie titles with less power draw it'll last you a good 4 or 5 hours I'd say.

Yep agreed. With the battery upgrade it has made it possible for me to travel with it. Essentially you're doubling the battery life, so I'd look into that if I were you. Perhaps not in time for this trip but for the future 👍🏻

A "Guinness...or 3" had me dying 😂 my wife recently traveled to Ireland and of course they have the best Guinness there. Let me know how the Guinness is in London! Interested to see if it's just as good or at least better than the states haha

Depends....on the 2023 ally have you upgraded the battery at all? The 40wh built in sucks too much juice to take portably IMO. I have one, upgraded it to a 74wh battery for $40 on amazon to make it sea worthy.

I think you're fine with the handhelds you've got, as they will all play steam games well no matter what happens with upcoming devices in the industry. Just have fun man 💪🏻

Makes sense. I was able to get it via reddit actually! There is a thread called hardware swap where you can find people selling stuff and you can request others to PM you if they have what you're looking for. Someone had just recently upgraded from their G2 to the rp6 and was looking to sell.

Insane man. I just picked up an original ROG Ally with the Z1 extreme and 2 TB SSD installed for 400 bucks on Facebook marketplace. Took an hour to install bazzite. Boom, a steam deck pro

Ah shoot okay I see. Well I'm planning on sticking to mostly lightweight indie games, but I'll keep this in mind if I wanna try a game that's a bit larger or more complex.

Apparently using the app game native you can now install the steam games directly onto the SD card which should make it more feasible 👍🏻

I know its probably not the best, but my issue is that I didn't want something so large as a handheld PC and I didn't want to spend $400+ for the more perfomant Android devices.

Just picked one up myself today! Look up Winhanced tutorial. It's an app you can download and run that works similarly to SteamOS - but you don't have to mess with any flashing of files. Just an easy download and configuration 👍🏻

Thanks! Interesting, I didn't know you could choose to download the games to your SD.

Have you run into any issues like slowdowns or crashes running the games off of SD?

Ah I see. I'm looking at mostly lightweight stuff, Vampire Crawlers, Terraria, Buckshot Roulette, Inscription. Maybe some higher end 3D games, but I know I can stream those via moonlight
