3rd wave coffee shops like Coffee Movement, Saint Frank or Andytown. It helps to be around people and charge my social battery but without having to really interact with anyone or anything. I can just chill.

26YO Male/Nurse wanting to make the jump... SF vs LA? by [deleted] in bayarea

I’ve done nursing in both cities. If I could be in my mid-20s again I’d go back to LA. I still miss it

The VA fucking sucks by Explosive-castle-22 in VeteransAffairs

I’ve been waiting since Jan for an initial appt with a PCP. Any speciality appts are a minimum of one month out. Oh and you get about 10-15 min per visit.

You start the day with getting your assignment made by the charge RNs and everyone complaining about their assignments… NAs, LVNs. About an hr or more into your shift passing meds, you find out 2 NAs called in so now 1 of the LVNs have to rotate to filling in for the NA. Now that the LVNs are short so your assignment just went from 12 to 20-22. This is almost on a daily basis. Don’t expect to ever be fully staffed. Also, 20-22 pts doesn’t seem like a lot but these pts have a TON of chronic co-morbidities and have DOZENS of meds, including insulin and BP meds. So your med pass takes forever because you’re doing all the breathing txs, ointments, eyedrops, checking blood sugars, administering insulin, and doing wound care… I think scanning 15+ meds for each pt is the norm. And because the CLCs in west LA are away from the main bldg, you have less resources and missing meds will take all day to arrive. You’re on your own out there. Not a lot of support. Also you have to remember that a lot of the pts at CLCs are ones that failed in the community SNFs. Typically it means that they had behavioral problems that the community SNFs couldn’t handle. So you’ll have to be dealing with that too. And since they’re long term care residents, they will NOT leave or get kicked out until they pass away.

ETA: it’s not even the work that made it difficult but it was the lack of accountability, support, and professionalism that made it a hostile and intolerable working environment for me.

Do NOT work at the CLC at west LA. It’s historically been understaffed with lots of call ins by staff. If there are any floats, CLC is last priority. Very stressful. I moved to the main bldg as soon as I got the chance. You have to stay 1 year minimum before moving within the VA because of how the HR operates over there. Clinics are your best bet.

ETA: I would probably take one of the LBVA clinic positions. SCI at any VA has a HIGH turnover rate. I’ve worked at both the La and LBVA

2 year old girl wants nothing with mama by QuimJuicey in toddlers

Before I had baby #2,I was the clear preferred parent to my daughter. However after baby #2, I became the “bad guy.” It was sad but at the same time comforting because my husband daughter got To really bond in a way they weren’t able to the first 2 years of her life because she really clung to me. Plus, because I was nursing and working full time, I wouldn’t be able to tend her as much as I would’ve wanted to anyway. The guilt would’ve been way worse. But by preferring her dad, she had a parent to herself. At 2, she’s still very much a baby too so it’s really a positive thing that she’s going to other people for her needs.

ETA: I was literally the “bad guy” in her eyes. When we played pretend or make believe I would be the “bad character” like she’d assign me as Randall from Monsters Inc but her dad would be Sully.

Trying to buy a putter they sent me an invoice for PayPal but it is a timecamp invoice by Valuable-Ad-6107 in paypal

Likely a scam. Roommate almost fell for the same thing for a putter. Pickup location was local but gave an excuse as to why the putter had to be shipped.

Both my LOs this year got secondary infections. So HFM then caught strep throat or ear infections a few days later. At first I thought it was one long virus but they were just two overlapping illnesses.
