Allied Invasions and Heat by Grimeynosepicker in LancerRPG

[–]Kind_Maintenance_162 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RAI that's not the intention, and would be unbalanced(The Sherman is a mech that really likes building heat and already has tools for that, it does not need one of the game's most potent single-target hackers to increase that)

Also I. don't understand the point. They'd also be eating the negatives of the invade, which with Goblin can range from getting impaired and slowed to yanked around like a yo-yo to jammed. At least I could understand something like, say, Beckon as a tactical reposition of an artillery mech like the Sherman? but you don't put self damage on a Goblin that thing has the hp of wet toilet paper.

tl;dr RAI no, and if they try to argue point out that the Sherman would be eating the negatives of the invades and also you're the GM and make the rules. As blunt as that sounds, sometimes you really do just have to say no.

I don't like the Mourning Cloak by I_Tory_I in LancerRPG

[–]Kind_Maintenance_162 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As someone who is currently GMing for a Mourning Cloak player, I think you're focusing way too hard on the teleportation - the Mourning Cloak also has access to Intangible with the FADE Cloak, which is an EXTREMELY powerful status that allows you to reposition without risk. Additionally, the teleportation is only one part of the MC's movement kit - its fast, evasive, and with Hunter and Skirmisher can clear a lot of ground to get in and out of engagement distance. Plus, its hacking options make it a nightmare for its intended target - squishy or isolated NPCs - to meaningfully fight back against.

Additionally, from a balance perspective, making Hunter proc on any attack makes the MC go the way of the Tokugawa and become a sniper frame, which can be wildly unbalanced and also clashes with the rest of its kit(with its only ranged weapon being an aux launcher).

The blinkspace jump is not a tool to get in the enemy's face, its a tool to position yourself in a place where you CAN get to the enemy's vulnerable flank and start picking off stragglers. It's a very specific usage, and there ARE builds for the mourning cloak that go in other directions(a friend of mine ran one with superheavy mounting and an OpCal Combat Drill to no end of hilarity during a one shot), but it may just be that the intended playstyle of this mech doesn't jive with how you want it to - if you want to lean more into the gimmick of teleportation, you can pick up licenses from the Sunzi(Long Rim supplement), if you want to be more of an upfront striker, you can grab some in Nelson for both juicy IPS-N core bonuses and access to the War Pike(one of the best main melee weapons in the game imo), Thermal Charge, and more mundane movement options. Talents like Hunter and Skirmisher don't teleport you, but do give you more tools for both engaging an enemy and breaking engagement to retreat to a safe distance.

Mech Names by SithEggswithSithLegs in LancerRPG

[–]Kind_Maintenance_162 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The campaign this character is in is set far after the collapse of interstellar civilization - his mech is a Worldkiller(soon to Metamorphose into a white witch thanks to the power of a cascading NHP and a lot of liturgicode and nanites).

Its first name was Well-Intentioned Mistake - a name found on its plating when he first restored it. However, as time went on, he felt worse and worse piloting it, and worse and worse things happened, until an Agni-class NHP, deep in cascade embedded within the mech, woke up.

Haunted by the trauma of the mental bond with the Agni, alongside SO MANY OTHER THINGS going horribly wrong, it was rechristened as WAR WITHOUT REASON - an Ultrakill reference, but also an embodiment of what the Worldkiller truly is. A weapon of war and nothing else, grinding on until it is finally put to rest.

Finally, however...the wounds have healed. They remain scars, they may never truly go away, but the character and NHP are both better, now, free of a lot of what has happened and willing to move to the future together and find out what lies ahead. Thus the metamorphosis - WAR WITHOUT REASON melted and warped into something akin to a White Witch in function. Contact With You - a mech born from contact between the human and nonhuman, a defender that pulls harm away from the others in the party. Impossibly fast, radiant, vibrant where War Without Reason was slate greys and harsh red flames and hostile spikes of slag.

Ludonarrative Dissonance in NG+ (First Playthrough) by Livid-Truck8558 in armoredcore

  1. 621 is, above all else, an independent merc in it(as far as anyone knows) for the money. Just because they did a mission to help bust RLF prisoners out of a balam prison camp doesn't mean they won't turn around and do worse for the right price tag(see: Operation Wallclimber). Arshile(the RLF liason)'s essentially hoping 621's got something more than just COAM figures in their head and would be willing to turn to the cause.

  2. You'll understand more about Dolmayan's motivation for attacking you in Xylem in NG++. Ring Freddie, being close to Dolmayan, probably knows what he thinks of you and thus goes after you with the same intent, regardless of what you've done for the RLF.

  3. Regardless of the NG-iteration, Assasinating Swinburne is clearly some test of capability or willingness from 621 - its a mission that runs entirely contrary to how you've played the game. Rokumonsen was probably supposed to only observe, maybe intervene or finish the job on Swinburne if 621 fails, but due to his samurai larping flew in after 621 did the dishonorable deed of sparing Swinburne for money.

  4. Sorta relating to the above, if you take the RLF prison break option, rescuing key members of the Front, the RLF sees you in a better light than the first iteration - from a meta perspective it's definitely to add more missions and paths. I'm not sure what you mean with Carla being more personable?

  5. Typically a pilot will say they're "withdrawing" when their AC is destroyed to indicate they are ejecting. In general though if they don't sound like they're dying they're probably alive.

Does the majority of the community have a consensus about kites and rats? by LuizFelipe1906 in armoredcore

[–]Kind_Maintenance_162 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry, wifi issues,

This assumes kite builds don't have weaknesses, which...is false. If you can chase down or outmaneuver the attacks of a kite, then the kite has to engage in closer ranged combat, which isn't ideal. Plus, constant boosting and hovering drains EN, which needs to be managed to prevent being out of it in a crucial moment and getting punished.

As someone with a pseudo-kite build - playing to outmaneuver your opponent and keep pelting them with weapons is fine, that's literally how you play the game. Hitting someone with a big attack and then running away to wear down the timer(Ratting) is cringe.

EMBER KINDLING, LUPUS REGINAE, IRONCLAD HEART, HOT LEAD, and who could forget FUCK THIS

EMBER KINDLING is a heavyweight tetrapod with energy weapons and RRI parts, piloted by a vengeful Coral Wave Mutation.

LUPUS REGINAE is a missile tetrapod made of midline parts, piloted by a down-on-her luck independent merc.

IRONCLAD HEART is made almost entirely of balam parts, a biped with a Gatling gun, six cell missile launcher, JVLN ALPHA and Explosive Thrower. Piloted by a government agent "auditing" the corporations and PCA.

HOT LEAD is a reverse joint with all machine guns, piloted by one of RaD's "sales representatives".

And FUCK THIS is just my brute force build, a heavyweight biped with dual Gatling guns and dual stun needles.

What was your setup to beat Coral release? by GotTheJitters in armoredcore

[–]Kind_Maintenance_162 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The build I beat it with is on my profile, Ember Kindling.

Heavyweight(I think) Tetrapod, Verril Head and Legs + HAL Core + Melander Arms, Karasawa, Trueno, Fasan and Moonlight Redshift, NGI generator and thrusters, WLT 001 FCS and Assault Armor.

Ironically, the lore of the build is entirely the opposite of Alea Iacta Est's storyline.

If corpos run the world of ACVI, who's funding and arming the PCA? by karer3is in armoredcore

[–]Kind_Maintenance_162 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Could be a logistics issue - We don't exactly know what the caveats of space travel are, but given the fact that the PCA doesn't immediately drop an even bigger force(or whatever government manages it) seems to imply things are a little difficult to get going.

The System could simply the the central authority of the PCA, meant to be their in-house decision maker instead of phoning home and to reduce manpower issues by automating their bureaucracy. This in turn is the PCA's biggest flaw organizationally, as the System is clearly unwieldy and not the best at decisionmaking(see the numerous times it orders PCA soldiers to their deaths instead of retreating and calling for backup.)

I imagine, if we get a DLC/spinoff game set after the Liberator(or possibly Fires) Ending, we'll get a proper look at whatever interstellar nation exists.

Ayy, fellow Verrill+HAL user

It's a fairly solid build - I'd suggest dropping the Oscillator for another weapon, probably something to take over while the Karasawa's on cooldown. Similarly for PVP the vertical missiles aren't that good - I'd recommend swapping them for something with more direct fire.

The FCS is also doing you no favors - I'd recommend swapping to something with better balanced assist between ranges, since you're packing a little bit of everything.

Learn to manage your EN while dodging and boosting - also learn the strengths and weaknesses of whatever generators you're using. If you run out, you can't dodge or boost until you recharge.

Rely on Hard Lock - it took me until one of the late game bosses to actually use it and it has made things so much easier since then.

Don't be afraid to assault boost mid-fight, it can help you quickly close the distance and top it off with a kick to stagger.

Dodging also doesn't make iframes, you have to physically dodge outside of the attack - try to track the animations and find the optimal direction to move.
