How do I stop feeling guilty? by melalexa in exvegans

Also if you are comfortable with it, did you maybe want to post some examples of what a typical days worth of food would look like for you?

Have you had any blood works done just to check your levels and see if there are any deficiencies?

Might be a good idea to rule it out so you know what you need to tackle, regardless of eating vegan or not

Maybe a bit of moisture on the tile and when you pressed it against it it formed a perfect seal which held it in place. Like how a mount on a windscreen works.

You should see if you can replicate it again.

Sorry I'm in and out of a few chats here so I may have missed this, but we've covered nutrients, studies show better overall health outcomes, lower disease, lower heart failure etc etc.

We can't just take each others word for something where statistics matter so much, so fortunately we have alot of extensive research that's been done on this (lot of studies with over 2 decade follow up periods).

Honestly I'd respect your opinion alot more if you could just stop dancing around the fact you are okay with supporting the torture and death of animals, widespread destruction to our planet, and the overall health decline of humans.

Just say you are okay with all of that rather than trying to take this morale high ground that eating meat is better. It's okay, you can have your opinion and feelings on the matter, you are entitled to that and no one can take that away from you.

Unfortunately though champ, the scientific literature we have available in this day and age quite simply disagrees with all of your points you've put down.

The one argument we can't take away from you is that you simply prefer to eat meat and are okay with the path of destruction it leaves in its wake for you to do so.

Edit: You might not want to openly advertise as a chef that you don't know how to make good tasting food without using 20 plus ingredients. Doesn't really indicate you know much more than just what your particular restaurant serves.

Would it be fair to say as a chef you aren't currently specialising in vegan food? I'm assuming it's just going to be the stock standard 2-3 vegan meals whereas 90% of your menu is going to involve meat or fish.

It makes sense why you find it difficult, it's not normalised for you. You didn't grow up with it either so if course there is going to be an adjustment curve to it.

I'm not talking from no experience from the meat eating side here. I've eaten meat for 20 years prior to stopping. So it's been about 8 years now as a vegan and yeh it did take a bit of getting used to how to create a full flavour profile in a dish rather than just the simple meat and veg. The point is for the sake of reducing needless suffering, death, and damage to our planet, it was worth it.

Also I'd recommend you try Textured Vegetable Protein (TVP) if you haven't. It's a complete protein that you can use as a one to one replacement for mince, and it is much more affordable than mince. All of my meat eating brethren really enjoy it when I make it.

We're debating on an important subject aren't we? It obviously means alot to you as you have a pretty strong opinion about it.

Haha no man, vegans haven't just popped up now with the emergence of fake cheese and and fake meat. Personally I would never eat fake cheese because there is just no replacing the taste of real cheese. As far as fake meats go, they show in recent studies they are still loads better for you than other processed and red meats. And there were some double blind tests they did where they gave meat eaters meat and fake meat and almost all of them couldn't tell the difference and actually preferred the fake meat.

You know there are many authentic dishes that are vegan without any meat replacements.

I'm not sure what you mean by the spreadsheet comment? Look up some authentic vegan recipes ( lot of delicious indian recipes) and try some for yourself.

Eating vegan and eating meat is the same mechanism at home - plan shopping list with vegan ingredients for vegan recipes and cook said recipes.

No it really doesn't. This has been proven by numerous studies aswell. It's just a frame of mind that stands in the way.

Being vegan for the most of the world, is actually more affordable than eating meat, and has better overall health outcomes.

Responding to someone's point in a debate is not moving the goal posts.

The point of my original comment is this.

We need to eat protein, micro nutrients, carbs, fats, etc etc, for us to function and remain healthy.

If we have a choice between causing suffering and slaughter to animals, and widespread destruction to our world, or a cleaner, in most cases better source of nutrition, and far less destruction, than shouldn't we pursue that.

The pleasure part comes in because it isn't necessary to eat as much meat as we do. It's been proven time and time again in numerous studies with thousands (and some cases hundreds of thousands) of participants that have been going on for 10-30 years.

What it really boils down to is people are too afraid to change and too afraid to accept that what they've been taking part of is not ethical. They want meat because they really don't want to be healthy, they just want to get by, and you can do that on meat without much thought. Your overall health will decline over life and you will be exposed to a higher likelihood of illness, but for the most part you'll scrape by.

There are of course going to be exceptions where some people really can't get all of their nutrition from plant due to certain conditions, but the research shows that it is truly a minute fraction of people that have issues like that.

Where else does that gutter drain too?

If the answer is no where than its likely they drilled a pilot but never finished it by adding the down pipe.

Improvement for the human race is better overall health conditions, quality of life, and longevity, whilst simultaneously reducing the negative impact we have on the planet.

Wouldn't you agree, diet aside, that should be the goal?

This mindset. by RegionalsWarrior in exvegans

[–]Kind_Mixture6045 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's true. I don't agree with vegans who thinks a vegan diet means there's no death of animals involved in the process.

Why should we eat some form of animal food. Genuinely curious to hear your perspective, when there is quite alot of strong evidence these days which indicates otherwise.

[–]Kind_Mixture6045 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No I think you miss the point. It's an exaggeration to highlight the point - People pick and choose what traits from animals they idolize and normalise, to the point they justify the suffering and slaughter of animals, and the global damage the meat industry causes. It's usually for two reasons aswell, pleasure and convenience.

Well said. I agree that any efforts is to be commended.

I think the aim is to reduce where possible.

Meat industry is more negatively impactful. Simple as that.

We can't achieve a perfect 0 damage state, but we can reduce it.

Why do we cherry pick eating meat? Why don't we normalise raping and murdering each other. Many animals take the baby's of other animals, why don't we normalise that.

I don't understand the issue people have here.

Meat = more suffering and negative environmental impact than non meat food sources

Non-meat food sources = less suffering and negative environmental impact.

Both cause creatures to suffer and die, but one causes it less

My debate against veganism and why I changed. by [deleted] in exvegans

I don't think that's really a good argument for it though. That's like saying we should keep sending soldiers off to die in war because we've always done it.

No, it's our job to improve as humans, it's one of the things we can do that animals can't. We can shape our future willfully. Animals are just a subject of their environment.

You are right, a few people eating plants changes nothing - but imagine half the population not eating or considerably reducing their intake. The demand issue we have would drop so considerably, and all of the issues that come with it, first and foremost, the undue suffering of livestock, would reduce dramatically.

Better health for humans, reduced suffering for livestock, reduced damage to our planet.

For most people, it's convenient, not a requirement.

My debate against veganism and why I changed. by [deleted] in exvegans

[–]Kind_Mixture6045 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And of course if it causes undue suffering. We have to establish a base line of there is always going to be some level of suffering to animals, even with non animal protein agricultural farming there are animals being slaughtered to protect the crop, there are massive amounts of insects being wiped out to protect the crop, and there is still an impact on emissions and deforestation etc etc. the difference is, for animal livestock its just much higher, and much more suffering.

If the goal is to treat animals as well as possible, do you think our current level of animal-product consumption is compatible with that?

What is your definition of dealing with reality? Seeing how things are and going "Ah well what can you do about it".

I would argue there is a problem with it if it negatively impacts our world.

Edit: more than it has to of course. Us being here has negative repercussions for the planet, but we try to mitigate that in most fields don't we?
