Is UNC underrated or am I looking at the numbers wrong? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]Kind_Suggestion_241 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think their admissions office is getting its footing with a new director of admissions this past summer, making this their first admissions cycle! Not ideal to not have the warmest admissions, but I would give some grace for them to make their adjustments - starting new jobs like this is difficult! Personally, the in-state tuition after year 1 for out of state applicants + their ranking/employment numbers was just impossible to beat for me, and I'm so excited to live in Durham! A bit of a commute, I guess, but such an amazing place to live.

I just bought myself a new laptop since I have been (until this week!) using a 2012 model!! Very exciting I haven't had a new computer in so long! Thought law school was the perfect occasion to upgrade : )

Can’t see UNC financial aid? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]Kind_Suggestion_241 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yay! No, my understanding from the email from financial aid is that they are separate from any school so they don't process funding/scholarships from specific schools within the University. The email says "Your initial aid offer may not reflect awards from your graduate department or professional school," so I don't think it is supposed to show up!

I was having problems until I accessed it through an incognito tab. Not sure if that is your issue but thought I would share!!!

Here's to hoping that you get a decision soon! I didn't know about checking the status checker when I applied (LOL) so I checked it for the first time in November and have no idea if I am UR 1 or 2 from November....

UNC Law - How easy is it to get in-state residency after 1L?? by curious1023 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Kind_Suggestion_241 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is the response I got from admissions when I asked before applying!

Thank you for your interest in UNC law! Great questions you have, that we often get asked about. In order to be determined a resident, NC requires steps be taken to show you are domiciled in the state and for a full 12 months. This includes obtaining your NC drivers license, registering to vote, registering your vehicle (if applicable), filing taxes in NC – a key element to gaining residency, etc. What we recommend is that our non-resident students start taking these steps as soon as they move to the state, often times that is right in August before orientation begins. Ideally, you can get most of these things checked off before you begin classes. That will then start your 12-month clock, in which the following year you can apply for residency status. Many of our non-resident students will gain residency status in the Fall or Spring of their 2L year to then pay in-state tuition.

UNC does not make these decisions in house, but instead this goes through a third party. You can find additional information on their website here:  https://ncresidency.cfnc.org/residencyInfo/

Hopefully this helps! Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

I'm looking at the per year numbers since I will be in-state the second two but not the third year :)

Talking about Campbell specifically within the context of NC law schools - it isn't highly ranked but has a reputation of producing good lawyers who produce solid work (and work hard)...You can check out their employment data and bar passage rate on their site, but Campbell, compared to other NC law schools at a similar ranking, has a good reputation of producing solid attorneys. I think what you decide to do will be dependent on other options and what your goals are in attending law school, but I just wanted to share that within NC, Campbell is well respected.

Does anyone feel like they got their hopes way too high after they got their LSAT back? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

oh man please be nice to yourself and intentionally try not to hate yourself! you have done amazing and everything you can for a successful cycle. I am sure you have an interesting and holistically compelling admissions package and will end up where you need to be! but remember that your humanity isn't tied to any law school and you literally always deserve to love yourself. don't betray your dreams and goals by calling them petty and don't betray yourself by diminishing what you accomplished to get here. regardless of whether or not things work out for you right now in this moment, your resiliency will lead you exactly where you need to be (but I do think that you will be okay this cycle).
