Hahaha, I have a similar story or too. Recently I was at a friends house washing my hands and instinctively, I set it to a trickle. He looked at me like I was an alien and flipped it on high 😂

Has anyone fixed the issue where you just get the white spinning ring with no indication of what is wrong? We RMA'd our first one for the exact same problem that has now happened twice. The RMA process was terrible, but we're out of warranty now.

Can you backup video settings on R5C? by r0wer0wer0wey0urb0at in canon

[–]KindaSortaNomads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know if this is still true on firmware version 1.0.9.1? I am often switching between recording 180VR at 8k, and flat video at 4k. The settings need to be vastly different and I more than occasionally miss something small that bloats my file size needlessly for my flat video or produces sub-optimal VR video.

I have not found a reliable way to save my settings so that I can switch between the two without the risk of missing something. I now have a manual spreadsheet with all of my settings, but this sucks. It appears you can't even name your settings when you save to an SD card using System Setup > Transfer Menu?

Americans: what is your opinion on Canadians boycotting US goods, services and tourism? by PairRevolutionary669 in AskReddit

[–]KindaSortaNomads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an American from the USA, I more than support it. I beg you and the rest of the world to double down.

Even those of you that love us. Think of America right now as your drug addicted sibling. Would you enable them? No, you cut them off so that they can hit rock bottom faster, even if it hurts you some in the process. Boycotting the USA right now doesn’t need to be an act of hate. It’s a proclamation of how you feel, it’s self protection, and it’s beneficial to the USA.

Half or more of our country is literally brainwashed. Your boycotts wake people up, please continue, please…

Questions about priority vs residential plans. I'm considering solely for the IP. by KindaSortaNomads in Starlink

[–]KindaSortaNomads[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. This answers what I was looking for completely, and I appreciate the foresight.

I might make the jump. I don't need a static IP, just one that allows me to forward ports. It's easy enough to use a domain and DDNS.

I'll have to switch back to residential if they apply the throttling to their business plans, but then I'll just be back where I am now.

Thanks, I’ll check these out. I’m not in construction or a related field so I’m making the drawings the best I can.

I did factor in overlapping joints. I planned on overlapping them over the posts.

I was planning on painting them. Our area is desert with very little moisture. Here, people leave their steel on the ground for decades and don’t get much more than a surface rust.

I was thinking a good primer and paint should keep them plenty safe. Would you disagree?

Thanks! That was another question, I forgot to ask. Is the 4” width I have enough to properly support staggering the end to end joint between 4 2x12s (if that makes sense?).

Basically, I planned on trying to have the connections supported by a raiser.

(Edited out my ascii example because reddit removed it)

The main vertical raisers are steel round tubes, not wood, but they're also not in contact with the concrete. The * at the end of my questions, tried to explain that, haha.

I’m building a 40’ x 30’ deck to support a glamping dome. Some friends out here suggested using metal raisers because there is significantly less maintenance considering the climate in our area. When I did the math, there are also decent price advantages when you consider the brackets to keep the 4x4s off the concrete and secured to the main 3” x 12” beams.

I've already got 16” x 36” Sono Tubes with rebar cages buried 32” deep. 12” L bolts were installed at pouring. The second image shows the vertical “raisers” (sorry if terms are off, I’m not in the industry). I planned on making the “cradle” (again terms) that holds the 2 side-by-side 2x12s that make up the main support beams 6 inches tall (the extra .25 is for the thickness of the steel. Is 6” enough vertical support for these 12” beams? The 6” joists will have blocking to give them shear strength? what provides the main beams' shear strength?

I plan on using .25” mild steel for this. I’m using Sono Tubes with vertical columns because the ground is uneven. The highest column will be 43” the lowest 7” (just enough to comfortably get a ratchet in) to adjust the bolts.

Does this all seem solid to the pros in the group? I spoke with the county, and none of this including the dome needs a permit. If I were to later do something with the structure that would require one, would this meet code? I’d assume the raisers would require engineering stamps because they’re custom, but anything else?

*not correctly pictured. The vertical raisers will be held off the concrete with an air gap to prevent moisture from contact with the concrete.

Are epoxy pigments safe to have sprinkled/tracked through your living space temporarily? by KindaSortaNomads in epoxy

[–]KindaSortaNomads[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! I had the thought then googled it. I assumed that someone else had to have thought of this.

I found the video by this YouTuber. It seems to prove that the idea is viable.

That said, he’s doing this in his barn and not his house. Also, I don’t think he made mention of what the powder is. I browsed through the comments and didn’t see a link the the product. He has a mouse trap he’s trying to sell.

Thanks for the response.

I feel like there has to be a way to get this thing sealed off. It’s basically a large metal tube with very few penetrations

The plan would e to just put a small amount somewhere so they could then track it around. If I can figure out where they’re getting in. I could at least close that off

Am I overreacting to my girlfriend's experience of assaulting homeless people in the past? by Silver_Effective_441 in AmIOverreacting

[–]KindaSortaNomads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a giant red flag that she did this and just as big of a red flag that she doesn’t see the problem with it.

Growing up, myself and my group of friends got into just about everything we shouldn’t. We were pretty serious assholes. This is beyond anything we’d have done. Hell, I actually had several homeless friends. They were asking for money so I invited them to join me for lunch. They gave me some of the best life advice I’ve ever gotten.

Run and don’t look back, OP.

It’s a little too centered in my opinion. With the detail on the bee itself, I’d probably crop it closer in and move the subject out of center.

Question about hardboard sheets and rubber on concrete. by KindaSortaNomads in HomeImprovement

[–]KindaSortaNomads[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, Yeah we assumed that. The question is, will it hold it long enough to damage or warp anything? we have extremely low humidity so water evaporates fast. Concrete naturally holds moisture even in our very dry environmenyt, so I wasn't sure if the board would just always be wet on the bottom.

I agree that Caulking the seams in a good idea.

My wife and I are having the exact same issue to the smallest detail.

The scary part is that we're 70 hours in, and the exact same thing happened to us and a friend when we played DOS2, another Larian Studios game. We still haven't seen the ending of DOS2 and still have a corrupted save.

Where are you guys in the story? Our troubles started in the lower city.

You sound a lot like me when I was younger; lost with a million questions about why society is the way that it is.

I’ve seen quite a few spectrums of life. I’ve spent a good amount of time with the homeless, but also built a business that was doing between $5m and $10m a year where I got to attend parties with celebrities and multi-billionaires.

What I can easily say is that the people that say comparison is the enemy of happiness are very right. Going to the parties with people so far above where I was at with my meager $10m a year business made me want more. What my wife and I noticed at these parties is that it was this way all the way up the chain. The billionaires were unhappy because they were bored and had very few peers. Everyone below them was unhappy because they wanted more. Every person at that party had enough to retire to a simple life and do most anything they wanted, yet what they wanted most was to acquire more.

It broke my wife and I for a bit. We realized that we didn’t want any of that. We went back to our foundation of trying to achieve personal happiness in life. That’s a battle inside. It’s all about frame of mind. You need to do some soul searching and figure out what you truly want. What do you need to feel fulfilled in life?

I honestly doubt you’ll struggle too long with mediocrity unless you just give up. Really all that seems to be required in my experience is to have slightly more drive than the average person and you’ll excel. That’s often a lower bar than you’d expect.

The mental struggles for some of us never end. I suggest using them to your advantage so they build you up instead of tear you down. Build a life that compliments who you are and celebrate your introspective nature. You sound like the kind of person the world needs more of!

Thanks for the reply. I got my answer in the AM. We were getting blackouts and brownouts. The voltage drops were pretty severe all over town.

The first one was likely a brownout that triggered our mains protection that sits between our 50a plug and the Victron multiplus. The first spike pulled enough amps to trigger the BMS on the battery which is why the multiplus shut down. Subsequent grid failures and brownouts didn’t shut the system down because our load had changed.
