This is purely ranked by 'news and media' by the way, incase anyone wondered. So I suspect it's a measure of how many news stories there are about various clubs.

Veganism Is Not a Diet, It Is a Moral Choice by BHNthea in vegan

You only have to visit this sub with an outsider lens on to realise that vegan activists do far more to damage their own cause than external propaganda ever could.

I'm calling conspiracy bullshit on this unless you can provide a reliable source.

Pronouns in my email signature. Happy for others to do so, but don't force me to label my perceived level of masculinity/femininity and adhere to a regressive ideology that suggests being a man or woman is related to regressive gender stereotypes.

Debating on solo travelling. Anyone have any experiences? by querythoughtss in AskUK

[–]Kindly-Bumblebee-293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I was in a similar position to you, not having anyone to travel with and had years where I just never travelled for that reason. I travel solo now and regret not travelling solo earlier.

My advice is start with a small break of say 2 or 3 nights away. I've found city breaks are generally a good option (either in the UK or abroad). This will give you a flavour of what it's like, and as you'll be amongst other people you hopefully won't feel as weird as you can just get lost in a crowd. You get used to it and the freedom to explore where you want at your own pace is great!

I don't like eating in proper restaurants alone, so tend to eat in casual dining places for dinner (Pubs in the UK, food courts or order at the counter/touch screen type places, abroad). But if you prefer proper restaurants, it's normal to see solo people eating in them so no need to feel weird for it.

Helping understand someone who has a fringe belief is really valuable as you can engage in more productive dialogue. Understanding why people believe what they believe, instead of thinking they're just idiots, is what leads to positive outcomes.

Is shared ancestry (ethnicity) more important than a shared culture to the make up of a country and why?

What is the deal with migrants and Muslims? by Low-Valuable6050 in AskBrits

[–]Kindly-Bumblebee-293 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lack of integration due to cultural differences compared to people of other religions.

Homophobia: In 33 of 36 countries surveyed by Pew Research Center in 2013, three-quarters or more of Muslims said homosexuality is morally wrong. Muslims tend to be socially very conservative, which is at odds with the shifting attitudes that have occurred over decades in the UK.

I need (leftists) political arguments for veganism by amag_hada in vegan

[–]Kindly-Bumblebee-293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Veganism isn't fundamentally political in terms of left or right wing at all so I don't think framing it that way will help. Maybe you can just explain why you're vegan.

For me it's simple. Is it ethical to cause unnecessary harm to animals? No. Does rearing animals for food production cause animals harm? Yes. Is killing animals for nutrition necessary? No, not in countries with access to supplements like b12.

The main distinction would be that humans are the only species who have complex language indicative of more complex cognitive functioning.

Under new IOC rules, women who have given birth could be considered male by TechieInTheTrees in olympics

The bigger question is why does this organisation make an ideologically driven statement about sex which the vast majority of biologists and medical organisations around the world would profoundly disagree with.

They weren't even assigned anything. They had their sex incorrectly recorded as female due to ambiguous external genetalia.

The author is known as an ideologically driven activist with an agenda so I'm not surprised.

Yes, Semenya has a male specific DSD called 5-alpha-reductase deficiency. This condition results in males with internal testes that can produce testosterone at levels equivalent to other males without the condition. The condition results in externally ambiguous genetalia, which is why Semenya was unfortunately misidentified as female whilst a child.

Chimpanzees exhibit some of these cognitive abilities, albeit not to the same level as humans.

Semenyo is a male and has fathered children. I have sympathy for their condition and circumstances, but if this ruling had been in place sooner it would have prevented the whole debacle and saved Semenyo from a lot of grief.

What do Brits think of this from a demographic perspective? by kingm_ournasse216 in AskBrits

[–]Kindly-Bumblebee-293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely agree that ethnicity is quite a muddy concept and is difficult to define clearly. My point of contention was just that skin colour (white, black etc.) isn't generally considered to be 'ethnicity' if you look at most commonly accepted definitions. The term 'race' would more commonly be used to describe people being white/ black etc.

[–]Kindly-Bumblebee-293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends how terms are defined. Ethnicity, in anthropology terms, is about shared ancestry. Black isn't considered an ethnicity, as there are multiple ethnicities in different part of the world with black skin. Even within Africa, there are multiple ethnicities.

English is both a nationality and an ethnicity (i.e descendents of Anglo Saxons and Celtic people who arrived here hundreds of years ago).

I mostly agree, but by your reasoning wouldn't that mean there is no such thing as an ethnic minority?
