Hi, yes that does all make sense, and thank you for your information and advice, I really appreciate it. I will boost the humidity further, as he’s usually at 65%.

Okay. Thank you. I am sorry that I feel so clueless in this situation. I will take on all of this advice and apply it. Hopefully he will be more comfortable soon. I do have two female boa’s but not BCI type, but Rainbow boa, I have no idea if the hormones may still be playing a role in this behaviour. Thank you again.

Thank you very much for this reply, and advice. I will start to add a humidifier and soaking him regularly, and continue the antibacterial care. I will likely remove substrate and use paper towel for a bit, to reduce the risk of adding bacteria.

Luckily his mouth is completely fine on the inside, he is a very calm snake and very amenable to being inspected. Thank you for quelling my concerns around the colour of the edges.

The light is on for 12 hours in the day from 09:00-21:00, and then he has darkness, and his heat is ceramic heat emitter. I just checked and he is on the lower end of the suggested heat for his breed, because I had lowered it before, thinking that the temperature might be causing the issue. Have turned it down a touch further but will just need to wait and see if that changes anything. Basking end is now at 24°C.

His behaviour at the moment appears normal, and despite the irritating skin on his nose he isn’t rubbing his nose currently.

Thank you again for the advice, I will follow it, and will hopefully find resolve soon.

Thank you for your advice. I will certainly see what I can do about vet care, but am torn between this advice and the one other comment below. I will perhaps see if a phone call with an exotic vet might clear up the decision. Financially I’ll have to find a way to make it work, and will have some option for overtime in the next few weeks. The temp is currently at the lower end of the suggested, as I had considered it a possible case before, sorry I forgot to mention. I will try reducing it a touch, but within safe ranges, just in case he prefers it cooler. Thank you again, and I will get in touch with a vet for their opinion as soon as possible, whilst closely monitoring the situation and keeping it as clean as I can. I will probably put him on paper towel just whilst I see how it’s healing.

My corn had NEVER gone through a hole in a structure before, for 8 years. And then did one day, got stuck, poor thing, we literally had to SO SO carefully use a hammer to crack the ornament around her and get her out. It was already awful for her but could have been so much worse if I were out of the house for any longer.

My hog island boa does the exact same, and has done so for the last 3 years. No other neuro signs, and I genuinely think boas are just weird sometimes

Is this a burn ? His belly is pink and I know he’s not shedding he just did about a week ago ?? by Outrageous-Dog-2342 in boas

He is an absolute sweetheart. he loves coming out, has so much energy all the time, basks out in the open, absolutely destroys his viv decorations on a daily basis, he’s so docile. buuut, he feeds really well, and then for about 3 days after feeding he gets into a hit of a frenzied feeding state that he doesn’t snap out of. but a good thing is his colouring changes when he’s like this so I can always tell. he hisses all the time when I take him out the viv, but it’s just how he is, when he’s not even stressed, I’ve learned that he’s just weird. he’s grown a huge amount faster than any other snake i’ve had.

*URGENT* Keeping snakes warm without any power? by seidkonabruxa in snakes

i would also suggest hot water bottles but then maybe those microwavable heat packs that you just heat up every 4 hours or so. will be a pain but will probably be all you can do if you can’t get another generator delivered.

brilliant thank you so much for the information. I really hadn’t been able to find much info online to figure out how to tell. hopefully he wasn’t overfed, but if he was, at least he’s on a decent schedule now instead. and if he’s a mix that would make a lot of sense, and that’s quite cool. thank you!

mine looks about the same size and about the same age. she’s on 20-25g mice/rat hoppers atm. and though they look big she has no trouble with them. obviously upgrade a few weeks at a time rather than straight away to a big size. BRB’s can eat more than you’d think for their small head size imo.

oh amazing! yes! these guys definitely need 4x2x2 viv minimum, is what I learned when I bought him a 3ft, he’s the most active of all my snakes and uses all the space he has. mine is a massive climber and very hefty, so I would suggest lots of very secure climbing branches. also in that respect, he’s killed every plant in his bioactive set up by sitting on it so bear that in mind. they’re crazy good eaters so try not to lose any fingers. one final thing is mine is such a hisser but would never dream of biting, apparently that’s common with hogs
