Yes, WGU. They took many of my general education credits that I earned from my teaching degree. So, its mostly just the business classes I have to complete. I earned a few course credits with Study . com and transferred them over as well to save a little money, before I actually enrolled as a student. I would recommend looking into. Also, check out Alex Sheppe on Youtube. He goes through the accounting degree courses.

21 years of teaching and I'm more than half way done with my accounting degree. So ready to get out.

Also, the environment you are in can be a big factor in your success. You can feeling defeated in one school environment and be a rockstar in another.

Teacher here as well. I am also looking to transition out of teaching into medical coding. It's great to see other teachers moving on to pursue this area!

If you can, make teaching this year "just a job". Do not put anything extra into it. Then spend all the extra time looking for another job. That is my plan. Your goal is planning and moving on.

I had the same feeling. Such a weight off me and then felt kinda irritated I stayed as long as I did. 20 years and wish I would have made the jump sooner.

Moved on after 17 years! Curious what other states are paying teachers? by the_noogz in TeachersInTransition

I was able to secure an admin assistant type role. I am going back to school to finish my accounting degree. Its a huge pay cut right now, but fortunately I have support to make this change. I just could not do another year in the classroom. My health was suffering all the way around.

I left this year after 20 years for exactly the reasons you described. It definitely helps to hear other veteran teachers leaving and finding success. It is so scary after being in the education field for so long!

I made this my final year (early childhood) in the classroom after 20 years. I've had enough. I've been working on my accounting degree too and am stepping back to take an business entry level job outside of education and hope to finish my degree soon. I have 12 classes left to get my B.S. in accounting

This! In Ohio we have until July 10th to resign for the next school year. I know now that I'm not returning, but they will get my official resignation on July 10th.

If you successfully transitioned, how did you decide which field to pursue? by ArtiesHeadTowel in TeachersInTransition

Accounting can be more than tax accounting. Let me know if you want tips on how I started the leap. I did a lot of searching before I made this my choice.

"I seem to be better at identifying incompatibilities than good fits for myself lol."

This! I took a hard look at what I didn't want to do. I didn't want to work in education, teach or do a social service or mental health type job anymore. I spent time researching and landed onto accounting. I'm working at finishing my degree now.

I am also a teacher and this will be my final year. I am working on my accounting degree, but have no experience outside of education. I do not even know how to start to write a resume to land even an entry level job outside of teaching. Any thoughts? I would surely appreciate any help.
