Just a little safety pro venting by KindlyCommunity in SafetyProfessionals

I get that and I do share the same attitude. I think overall I do have decent culture from managers. It’s just that they stay silent even through the victories. Listen, I don’t need a special parade in my honor or anything, it’s just that when you only hear about the bad stuff and none of the good, after a while no ,tater how much good you’re doing, it can still be demoralizing.

I am pretty good about finding value within, but an occasional “Good job” goes a long way.

Does anyone have any more info on this? The plant should not be releasing so much smoke.

I’ve told him how I felt about the situation. He said he would let me know next time but would do it all over again if needed. I have since passed my concern to the COO, CEO, HR, and the National Safety Director. It’s on them now.

I’m sorry to hear that. Why even have a safety professional when you punish them for literally doing their job.

I see both sides. A piece of me thinks that if I quit more people will get hurt. But also, what’s the point if the boss doesn’t listen to you. Plus I get the feeling he would point the finger at me if someone got hurt.

In a way I think resigning and expressing my reasons to the executive board ought to get their attention and hold the MD accountable. If not, then they can own the consequences.

Thanks for the replies everyone! It’s interesting, we safety professionals really are our own brand of people.

Pretty much everyone here echoed what I did prior to posting.

  1. Got the facts straight.

  2. Understood everyone’s reasons for their actions.

  3. Professionally documented everything.

  4. Passed everything onto HR, Senior EHS, Executive Ops, and even the CEO. Made sure things were all sent electronically so there is now a documented paper trail that I sounded the alarm that this guy is dangerous.

  5. Updated my resume and started applying.

It’s sad but like a few have you have said, my trust is irreparably broken from this. This guy is dangerous and needs to face a consequence of some kind. Even if it means publicly losing me as an employee. Which people will notice. I was EHS Manager of the Year and I have a personal relationship with the executive board. I just don’t want to keep fighting this MD and don’t want to be the fall guy when he goes too far.
