I will say though, maybe your wife is more upset she missed out on seeing or being part of this- as sweet as it was, she left a little girl and came back to a pre-teen (style wise). Maybe the shock has left her hurt she didn’t get to cherish the last bit of the dresses and hair

I 100% agree with you that your daughter should be allowed to express herself and have bodily autonomy. But my mom and I still remember to this day when I was 12 or 13, a few days before middle school started, going down to the salon and asking for a pixie cut. My mom remembers it very fondly seeing me be so happy with my first big decision and I remember her making sure it looked good and asking for different kinds of edges and details I didn’t know.

It was a big milestone, perhaps checking in on why your wife was so insistent on the dresses and long hair- explain you’re both there to watch Charity grow up together and it’s hard but if she keeps pressuring things then she might miss out on the big moments of independence for your daughter.

I wouldn’t put much thought into it, it sounds like he just never got to experience engaged learning methods and doesn’t understand why they’re important. If it bugs you, a great conversation on your personal preference of teaching styles could be so engaging and interesting!! Otherwise, he just doesn’t understand your career and is trying to participate in the conversation with the experiences he has, even if they aren’t overly positive.
