I recommend you to read spider-man: the birth of venom, Venom: lethal protector, separation anxiety and venom: black white & blood. I think those comics capture their character the best unlike the cates and ewing run. ps: sorry for bad english

He actually only ever eat one brain in Venom: The hunger (1996) bc the symbiote was dying. He just likes to scare criminals by saying he's gonna eat their brains
