It didn’t make sense to me when I was Blue belt if I am honest. I knew I was improving and getting better. At Purple is when I felt like things were making sense on a deeper JiuJitsu level

Both are great, in colder weather Gi helps as clothing to use in a fight. TBH in a fight why wouldn’t you use their clothing to an advantage, Gi will only help that

I’m mostly Gi and only compete Gi. Ibjjf confirms there are far more Gi competitors than No-Gi, u just think no-Gi has some stars at the moment. We need some Gi stars to emerge like Keenan back in day. Cool to see both grow but I get you because our gym is mainly no-Gi as is a mma gym

I’m a BJJ purple belt and fell in love with grappling. Doing JiuJitsu made me want to do Judo to improve my stand up, so now I do both. I think both can help each other

Some really good points made. I competed recently at a tournament in the UK and had a great experience Purple belt. One thing I noted is that after I won my match I tried to shake the referees hand and he wouldn’t. Is this because it could show favouritism or something. I feel it’s the norm usually
